The chandelier fell and went through my best friend Chelsea and her boyfriend Rico’s head. Tears start to well up in my eyes. The poles went right through the center of their skulls. There was no possible way for me to save them. Someone pulls on my arm while I’m just standing there crying. They pull my away from the bodies. It’s Jake Bella’s boyfriend. I take is hand in pure comfort and so that we wont lose each other in the hassle. We head for the stairs. I realize that we are the last people down here that is alive. That is a sading thought. When we get to the stairs I see Korbin, Zac, and Taylor running up the steps. Then they are simply gone. The fire some how swallowed them before they could make it up the rest of the stairs. Me and Jake stop in our tracks. We turn around.
“There has to be another way out of here.” he says as we head back to where we started in the dining hall.
On the other side of the room there is a door that leads to the kitchen and there is a window on the door that you can see into the kitchen from where we are standing. In the kitchen there is another set of stairs that I can see. It looks as if you can see a light coming in so the stairs must lead to outside.
“Jake I found another way out through the kitchen.” I pull him along. We start in a walk but by the time we hit the stairs we are in a full on sprint. The stairs did lead outside to the back deck. As we are running to the railing something hits me in the back. I automatically think it’s a person that is hurt and is needing help so I turn around and it is a hand. It is laying on the deck. You can see the bone and tons of blood. It twitches. I scream.
“What’s a matter Brooke?” he asks as he drags me the rest of the way to the railing.
We climb over. “There was a haaaaaaaaaannnndddd!” I yell as we jump into the water.
We make a big splash. We swim over to a piece of debree. I spot Kaycie and Austin on another piece of debree in the distance. I nudge Jake and point to them. W swim over to them. “Where is everyone else?” I ask shaking in terror.
Kaycie starts to cry. “They didn’t make it. We each went half way around the boat and met here we found no one else alive.” Jake gasps. I feel his body tense beside me. I start to cry. Then the boat explodes and it looks like a fire cracker on the fourth of July.
“Kaycie, what are we going to do?” she doesn’t respond. I look over to make sure she is ok. But when I see her she is not ok. There is a lead pipe lodged in the middle of her throat. Blood is every where. All over her but mainly the blood is on Austin. I scream. I swim over to them on the other side of the debree. Austin isn’t moving either. I go behind him. I grab Kaycie to see if there is anything I could do to save her. But she is lifeless in my arms. I lay her back down on the debree. I go back to Austin. He hasn’t moved. He cant be dead not yet I wont let him die. I know Kaycie wouldn’t want him to die and that she would want me to do everything possible to make sure that he is still breathing. I feel for a pulse. I’m in luck. There is a slow but steady pace of the heart but his breathing is very shallow.
“Jake stay here I’m going to see if there is a life boat around here somewhere.”
“No, I’m coming with you.”
“No, Jake someone needs to stay here and watch him.”
“But I thought he was dead.”
“No, he has a heartbeat and his breathing is shallow. I’ll be back in a bit. If anything happens just yell. I’m sure I’ll be able to hear you.”
I push away from the debree. As I’m swimming I can’t help but to hear the sound of nature. The waves hitting what is left of the boats remains, my splashing strokes, and the call of the birds. I’m moving along rather fastly when something bumps into me. I’m afraid to look after what happened last time when I looked. I look anyway and I wish in a way that I hadn’t looked. It is James. He looks nothing like himself. He has cuts all over his face, arms and body. He has third degrees burns and his clothes are all ripped and torn like he was attacked by a mad man. A lump starts to grow in my throat. I hear his voice calls out my name. His voice is so raspy that I barely recognize it.
“Brooke?”
“Brooke, please help me. I can barely breath and it hurts.” his normal sea blue eyes are now are a haunted look of blue. I cant help but to cry. I pick up the first thing in reach and it is an iron pan.
“I’m so sorry James.”
I kiss his red rough lips. I raise the iron pan and I repeatedly beat his head until his lips go limp against mine. I throw the pan as far as far as my strength will let me. I let go of James. I take one more glance then I leave him there lifeless and dead. I see a life boat up a head. I grab it and head back with it to Austin and Jake. When I get back Austin is conscious and him and Jake are talking probably about nonsense. We pull the string to the boat and it inflates. Austin gets in first. Then it is my turn I get up there quite easily considering Austin helps me. As Jake starts to get in his foot slips and he falls into the water he goes under. After a few seconds. He doesn’t resurface I start to get a little worried.
“Austin I’m worried about him. I’m going in after him.” I take off my shoes and socks so I can move quicker in the water. I jump in before he can object. Right away underwater I can spot Jake. The water isn’t very deep. For some reason he is at the bottom. I surface. As soon as I do I’m bombarded.
“Where is he?”
“At the bottom.” I take a deep breath and go under before he can ask anymore questions.
I pull at Jakes body but it wont move it’s like he’s attached to something. I go all around him but I cant find a single attachment. I try to pull one more time. There was no getting him back to surface. He face has gone white and a hint of blue but that is the reflection of the water. I feel for a pulse but there isn’t one. Another part in me dies as I go back to the top.
“Well?” Austin asks like the answer isn’t obvious enough that I have to say it.
There is a lump in my throat. I try to clear it but it is still there.
“I couldn’t save him he was attached to something and I couldn’t find what it was that was holding him down there. It’s was like it was like an invisible force holding him there.” we both go silent.
The silence is like we are remembering everyone that didn’t make it and how much we will miss them and remembering the good times we all had. The silence lasts for hours, minutes, or even seconds. I don’t know how long but it feels like an eternity. Austin is laid down and I have my legs resting on his. I close my eyes. After awhile I open them. Austin is asleep. I kick him awake so we can decide what to do next. He doesn’t move I try again but he still doesn’t move. I crawl over to him. My legs gets caught on some rope. I fall on top of him. His head rolls to the side from the impact of my fall. I see a rope around his neck. I loosen it, but it’s no use he’s already gone. Did he do this on purpose, was it an accident or was it that invisible again. He is dead gone never coming back. I’m the only one left. I fall back I fell and intense pain in my back like something sharp went into my back. I lean forward. I can hear the pulling of something coming out of my back. I automatically feel around on my back trying to find like a small cut, but what I find is bigger. I scream in agonizing pain as I touch a big cut in the center of my back. All I can think is why us. Why are we dying. We are so young we have not had time to live our lives to the fullest. I start to cry. You’d think I’m all teared out but I’m not. I start to have a hard to swallow there is a ton of blood gathering in my mouth. I can taste it. It’s like a rusty medal taste. It starts to seep out the corners of my mouth. I start to shake uncontrollably. I can’t just cant stop. I fall onto Austin’s body. Everything around me goes black. My world is black.
