the road
has a yellow diamond sign
to tell me
it's a dead end,
and I luagh
because that's all we ever were.

"stop staring,"
i say
to myself in my head.
but I can't.
down that road
is your house
and inside of your house
is you.

i want to move on,
i want to walk away,
but my feet stay planted,
standing and staring
under a full grown tree
in the heat of the afternoon.
