Good update; glad to see Harry hasn't totally forgotten the pastThe Wizard on the Edge of Forever

thanks for the update, I have to say though, that I think Harry may be making a mistake by glossing over the Jackalope bit, it seems that Luna was extremely precise with what she said, and he could be missing a major clue.
Looking forward to more

A good 'slice-of-life" update showing Harry's first year at the Academy. I, too, rather suspect there's likely more to that Jackalope comment than Luna's "usual" creatures. If "the fanged one" was responsible for the wards, I could see the interpretations here but if "the fanged one" was just for getting inside the wards, I can think of another approach that might work if there's outside access to a certain area.
I reckon you've got Harry's athletic skills pinned well and he did play to his strengths. 'Twill be most interesting to see how he does in further competitions. The Wizard on the Edge of Forever

Great story, and some very well thought-out history, and a nice teaser mentioning the Olympics. Well done & thanks. The Wizard on the Edge of Forever

Good part there, and agree that there must be something with the Jacalope, but not sure what that is. Liked to see how Harry's doing, and glad to see that maybe he and Kim aill be able to maybe still stay friends at least. Liked the time at home, as well as what seems to be something building with Hui, and would be interesting if Harry's Klingon ally might have a sister who'd be interested in him in the long run.The Wizard on the Edge of Forever

Primarily a transitional chapter. Because of that, it is slower-moving.
Harry obviously realises that doesn't need to rush things - if Voldemort hasn't escaped Hogwarts for 200+ years, he isn't going to do so now. What Harry needs to do now is build up his abilities, hone his strengths and work out exactly what he needs to do. Only when he is fully ready should he look for the last Horacruxes and face Voldemort.
Now... I wonder where Harry will go upon graduation? The three primary areas for academy graduates are Command/Flight Operations (gold), Science & Support Services (blue) and Engineering & Security (red). AFAIK, in the TOS timeline, Medical Services officers don't have to go through the academy, only have the relevant medical qualifications. I suspect that Harry, given his ability as a flyer and a leader, will end up in Command & Flight Ops - either as a helmsman or a navigator. However, Harry the Redshirt would have a certain comedic potential. ;)
Looking forward to more... Maybe Harry's final year he and his friends can have a training cruise. By my admittedly offhand calculatons, Harry's graduation should occur at about or shortly after the time when ST-TMP was set.

Yep, that it is. The next couple are along those lines but then its off to the races again. Right now these slower paced chapters are there for a reason. It's mainly to give an idea of what the Academy is like and to lay the basis for further reaching events. now some things that I am going to do, many people will not agree with, but it is a setup for something that is going to occur several chapters away. One thing that you have to keep in mind is that in some cases, I set something up in oh say chapter four that won't occur until at least chapter 16 or later.
As for your calculations, your pretty close, try one week before and I'll be referencing to that movie's timeframe. I pretty much know exactly what Harry will end up doing in Starfleet, I'm just not quite sure where to put him so to speak.
Now as for your comment about medical officers, I'm pattering Hui's Academy/Med school experience on a friend of mine who went to West Point Before he went to Med school. Specifically, what happened he was accepted to West Point and went the medical track and as soon as he graduated he went to Vandy for med school for the first two then Harvard for the last two. He's now a Trauma Surgeon in Tennessee and done a few tours of Iraq as part of his Reserve commitment.
Sorry no Training cruise this time around. that would be a story in and of itself. :)The Wizard on the Edge of Forever

I was hoping you'd do a "life at the academy" chapter and you delivered. Thanks!
Judging by how the instructors are comparing him (favorably) to record setters in the past, I think Harry is probably going to be on a fast-track to something (as long as he doesn't blow it) - probably a plumb posting.
I just noticed that Harry isn't going to have a training cruise. Uh, why not? Or at least gloss over it - training cruises are a major rite of passage and are SUPPOSED to be boring.
As to where Harry ends up, I'm thinking he'll go Command/Flight. What you've written thus far, plus his history, his leadership qualities will NOT stay hidden.
One thing I think is missing is the internal strife that exists within the Academy. Yeah, he and his squad seem to get along well, but what about the other squads? What would happen to the squad if one member gets hazed by another squad? Or if one gets hurt in some kind of competition or class?
Oh, well. Keep on writing; if you haven't figured it out, you have a lot of fans!

Well, Harry is going into Flight/Navigation, but I'm just not sure exactly how I'm going to branch him out. Straight flight ops to command or Intel/Flight then command. I've got a couple of friends of mine that are Special Ops qualified Pilots. While no Section 31 is going to rear its nasty head here, the Idea of a Pilot/Navigator/Helmsman that knows what to dig around for in a spacedock during an investigation is appealing.
I rethought it a bit. I'll add a piece about Harry's cadet cruise in the next chapter.
Oh there's strife, but It's only going to be mentioned in passing.
