2Insightful
He got close enough that when I swiped my hand at him I left a long trailing scrawl down his left arm. He made to lunge at me and Gerard spun me around and threw me against the counter top, I smashed into it, winding myself. I doubled over clutching my chest as I gasped for breath. Gerard angled his body in front of me as Bob still advanced on me. He shoved Bob sharply in his chest and he stumbled back a few steps.

“Someone better tell me what the fuck is going on.” He roared holding a restraining hand out to both of us. My breath came is gasps. I hit the counter pretty fucking hard.

“Ask that asshole” I hissed straightening up. “Ask him why the fuck he made my last year of school a living fuckin’ hell when I did fuck all to him or any of his other dickhead friends.” I shouted jabbing a finger at Bob. “Ask him why he stressed me out so much with his bullshit that I nearly had a goddamn miscarriage and had to spend a week in hospital being monitored” My whole body shook with rage.

Bobs face was carved from stone. His eyes were glass. “You were a common whore, love. Pregnant at 16. You must have been a slut and we didn’t like dirty little whores in my school. You had to be put in your place.”

“You don’t know what the fuck I was going through! You don’t know what happened to me. You didn’t know shit about me” I screeched lunging for him again. Gerard grabbed me round the waist again but his hold wasn’t as strong as before. His face was contorted in rage as he pulled me behind him.

“Jesus Christ Bob, I would never have expected to hear you of all people speak to anyone like that, much less someone you know jack about. You have no idea what she was going through. She watched her mother DIE you heartless bastard. Did you know that?!” Bobs face dropped. He actually looked ashamed. “Dude, you have NO clue about what this girls been through. And as for her being pregnant when you met her, none of that was her fault, you can’t blame her for something she had no control over. It was a serious accident and she paid the price. But fair fucking dues to her for finishing her high school education and getting her diploma especially with someone like you breathing down her neck and harassing her all the god damn time. You should fucking admire her for what she did. Fucking hell Bob why the hell were you such a fucking cunt to her?!”

Bob took a step back. “I… fuck… I was in high school… I was easily led…”

“That’s no excuse man” Gerard muttered.

“I know… Fuck… I don’t know what to say now…”

“A sorry would be a start” I hissed.

“I’m sorry Sarah, I should have gotten all the facts before I went along with the crowd and acted like a complete cunt, I could have been a better person and I could have made things a lot easier for you. We could have been friends. I don’t know if I can make it up to you but I’d like to try.” He offered me his hand to shake. I glared at him till he dropped it back to his side and stood awkwardly in the doorway.

“Its gonna take a long time before I even CONSIDER forgiving you Bryar. You made my life even more of a hell when I truly didn’t need it or deserve it. I can’t just forgive you like that. But I can try.” I finished offering my own hand to him. He gave me a small smile and slipped his hand in mine and shook it firmly.

Gerard slumped against the counter and pulled out a cigarette and stuck it in his mouth. He held the lighter up to the tip. “Shit, you don’t mind do you? My nerves are shot.” He mumbled.

“Go for it” I waved my hand at him.
“You can sit down… Bob” I stumbled. “Unless you have somewhere else to be…” I trailed off.

“I don’t but if you want me to…” this was gonna be harder than I thought.
“No, it’s cool. Do you want a drink? Tea, Coffee? Anything?”

“Coffee would be nice… Umm… Black no sugars” He mumbled sitting at the table. “So eh…” he mumbled, his eyes fell on a picture of Lizzy on the table “is that her?” He asked “Can I?” he gestured to the stack of pictures.

“Yeah, that’s her… sure, have a look” murmured turning to the kettle. No one said a word. I could hear the sizzle as Gerard took a pull on his cigarette and the swish of the pictures against one another as Bob looked through them. I made the coffee, making as much noise as possible to break the silence. I turned at set the mug on the table next to Bob’s hand. “Thanks, she’s really beautiful you know… she looks a lot like you… she doesn’t have your eyes though… they look familiar though… they look a lot like…” his eyes widened as he came to the last picture. The close up of Lizzy’s face. My eyes slid closed as I waited for his realisation to hit.

“Frank’s eyes” was all he said. I opened my eyes again to read his face. Complete and utter shock lined every one of his features. Fuck Frank and his stupid unique eyes. No one would be able to guess she was his if it were not for her having exact replicas of his beautiful topaz eyes.
“She’s his?!” he breathed. I gave him a weak smile. I couldn’t deny it. The evidence was all there. “That’s why you left Jersey and came to Chicago.” He muttered, his eyes gliding back to the picture of my daughter clutched in his hands. “Does Frank know?” He asked looking up at me and then at Gerard.

“No, and we’re not telling him. Not yet.” Gerard said, his eyes locking on mine. “We’ll tell him eventually but for now, he is oblivious.”

“So you know?” Bob asked Gerard.

“She was literally just telling me as you called me a while ago. I got nosey and looked through her mail and found the pictures.” His eyes dropped to the floor and his cheeks reddened.

“It was gonna come out sometime.” I sighed. “I thought I could keep it under wraps for another few months. But Gerard’s a nosey asshole. I suppose I can tell ye now… She’s coming here to live with me… Soon” My breath caught and a sob escaped my lips. Gerard stretched a hand towards me to comfort me.

“I’m happy, don’t get me wrong” I breathed “But what if I’m not a good mom” I was finally voicing my biggest worry. Gerard caught my by the shoulder and pulled me to his chest. Bob shifted uncomfortably in his chair at the display of affection Gerard showed me but he said nothing yet.

“Shh…” Gerard soothed stroking my hair “You’ll be a wonderful mom, don’t worry” He smiled at me “I’ll be here to help” He brushed my hair from my eyes and gazed at me. I was lost in a sea of green for a second; his face inched closer to mine as he went to kiss me. Then Bob coughed, breaking my reverie.

“I’d like to help too” he stuttered “I really do want to make it up to you Sarah. If you ever need anything just call me okay?” I smiled at him. Maybe me and Bob could be friends. We both had obviously grown up in the last three years. Maybe we could put everything behind us.
I stepped forward out of Gerard’s grasp and wrapped my arms around Bob’s shoulders.

“I’d really appreciate that” I murmured as his arms snaked around my waist and he hugged me back.
