There's no questioning your love, or is there?
Joe and Patrick are about to see if their love is strong enough to last.
?Blocked
I get a phone call from my cousin, Adrienne. She’s having marital issues and needs a place to stay for a few weeks. She and I grew up together so I can’t say no, but my problem is I moved in with Joe.
“I’ll call you back.” I say into the phone, hearing Joe coming.
I swiftly hang up “Joe!”
“Yes?” he raises his eyebrow.
“Is there any way my cousin Adrienne, you remember Adrienne right? She’s divorcing her husband… anyways she needs a place to stay for a couple weeks and I’m the only person she trusts that’s close and-“
He chuckles “I don’t need a full explanation. Adrienne needs a place to stay and I have an extra bedroom so she’s welcome. I miss her anyways.”
I kiss him and run to the counter to pick up my phone.
After giving her directions several times, Joe and I decide to go and meet her somewhere. Terrible with directions, she is. Joe drives to the Burger king near his house. I sit in the passenger seat and smile at him. He takes one hand off the wheel and places it on top of mine. I smile and pick up his hand to kiss it. When we pull up to Burger King and I see Adrienne’s Sedan. She follows us to Joe’s house. We get out and each of us receives a hug from the short brunette. Adrienne has cat like eyes that are a deep purple, due to her contacts. Her natural eye color is brown. She isn’t one for ordinary. She is wearing a mini hoop skirt with large purple hoop earrings and a halter-top. Her shoes are green converses with Mini Mouse on them. She also has pale paper-white skin. We walk into Joe’s house.
“So, what have you been up to?” She asks with a smile “I’ve decided to ask rather than read about you.”
I smile back “Hmm… since I last saw you? That was…. Long story short, because that’s easier…. I’m engaged now and Pete’s in jail.”
“I did see that… did he really… ya know….”
I nod.
She hugs me “That’s so terrible! You’re the sweetest person in the world why would anyone- Wait did you say engaged?”
I laugh and nod.
“Awe! Who is she?”
“Well…” I ignore a mental image of Joe wearing a dress “It’s not a she….”
Her eyes widen “Awe! Then who…”
Joe slowly raises his hand, like a kid in school afraid to tell the teacher the answer.
“Awe!” she hugs Joe again “When? How long have you two been together? Are You sure about this Patrick? Marriage is hard. And if you hurt my Patrick I will rip every limb off of your body!”
Joe nods slowly.
“Although I really don’t see you ever hurting him, Joe.” She smiles “But really though, be sure or you’ll have to ask your cousin for a place to stay while that cheating bastard sleeps with another woman on your bed as you wait for divorcement papers to be mailed!”
I hug her “I’m so sorry. Now, I’m not a violent person but I think I’ll just have to kill him.”
She smiles “No, he isn’t worth it. Just be sure.”
I smile back, and glace at Joe “I am.”
Joe smiles and wraps his arms around us, making it a trio hug.
Joe laughs “Remember that fight you got into with that Jeff guy for spreading that bad rumor about him and Adrienne?”
Adrienne laughs “Your first suspension, Aunt Patricia was so proud you stood up for me.”
“And who knew Patrick could kick a football player’s ass?” Joe laughs.
“Yes, you’re very funny.” I say bitterly.
I really do hate violence, but I hate people upsetting the people I love more.
Adrienne gets settled into the guest room as Joe and I cuddle on the couch watching god knows what. We aren’t paying attention to the tv. His arms are rapped around me, blanketing me in his love. He kisses me softly. I kiss back. He kisses back harder and I return equal force. Soon our tongues are dancing in each other’s mouth.
Adrienne clears her throat.
We pull apart, blushing.
She giggles “What the hell are you watching?”
We look up at the tv.
“I dunno.”
“Ok, do you mind if I change it?”
“Nah.” Joe answers “I’ve gotta shower and stuff before my mom comes.”
I nod “I’ll clean the room, that’ll be the first place she criticizes.”
Joe nods “Thanks.”
I go to the room, with Adrienne as my shadow. I pile up Joe’s dirty clothes and put them in the washing machine. I stack up his comics neatly and pick up all of the trash. I takeout all of the dishes and put them in the dishwasher. I vacuum the room as Adrienne sits on the bed, watching.
“Are you so bored you have to watch me clean.”
“Yep.”
“Well, could ya stop? I hate being constantly watched.”
“And you’re in a famous band…. Why?”
I laugh “I wonder that every day.” I shrug “I just like music.”
She nods “Ok so, I love Joe. But… I recall him having a drug problem…”
“He stopped.”
“When?”
“A little while before we started dating.”
“And how do you know he stopped?”
“Other than we flushed all of his pills? I trust him.”
“But-“
“Look, Adrienne. I know your marriage went through hell so its hard, but I’d trust Joe with my life. He’s an amazing, sweet guy. I love him more than I need to breathe.”
She frowns “Yeah…sorry I just have no faith in relationships now.”
“Hey, you’re a great girl. You’ll find someone. So that douche bag wasn’t the right guy, he’s out there somewhere waiting.”
She smiles “Thanks.”
I nod.
Joe walks out of the bathroom with wet hair and no shirt. She lays on his water bed and sighs.
“I hate when she visits. It’s always ‘Joe why isn’t this clean?’ ‘Joe clean your room’ ‘Joe you should eat healthier’ I moved out to get away from all that!”
I laugh, “You should eat more than pizza.”
“I like pizza!”
“Yes, as do I but there are other foods.”
“But she wants me to eat broccoli!”
I shake my head as we hear a car pull up.
“Speak of the Devil.” He pouts.
Janice Trohman walks through the living room with a frown.
“Joseph who is this… girl?”
“Um, that’s Patrick’s cousin she just came over to visit.” Joe answers.
“Hi, I’m Janice…”
“Adrienne, ma’am.”
She smiles at me “Hi Patrick.”
“Hi Mrs. Trohman…”
“So, I came to ask about something… since Joseph has neglected to answer my calls for months now. What started the nonsense about you two supposively dating?”
I feel my face grow warm. I look over at Joe and mouth, “She doesn’t know?”
He bites his lip and nods “Too much drama.” He mouths.
“W-well I don’t know Mrs. Trohman. I’m sure that if we were, Joe would have told you.” I say bitterly.
He frowns.
“But, where did they get the absurd idea?”
“I don’t know. Maybe it was just a misunderstanding blown out of proportion. I’m not feeling so well so I’m gonna go… lay down.” I walk out of the room, followed by Joe.
“Patrick!” He follows me up the stairs.
“Leave me alone!”
“Look, I’m sorry ok?”
“Whatever!” I slam the door in his face, not giving a damn that it’s really his room.
He opens the door “Patrick I didn’t tell her because I didn’t want to add more drama! We were both dealing with enough!”
“Just stop. You didn’t tell her because you didn’t want her to know.”
“No I just didn’t want her to know that I fell in love with a guy!” he covers his mouth. “Patrick, what I mean is.”
“I know what you meant! It came right out of your mouth. Yes, its hard to tell your mom that but I did it! I didn’t care what she thought, because I love you! I told her hoping that she’d accept it and knowing that if she didn’t my feelings wouldn’t change!” I grab my car keys.
“Can I at least know where you’re going?”
“I’m going to jump off bridge, into water to see if I sink or float!” I say annoyed.
“So, Andy’s?” He can’t help but have a small grin.
“Maybe.” I pout, mad that he knows me so well.
He tries to hug me but I pull away.
Passing his mom I say “I clean the room, not Joe.” And leave.
It's going somewhere
