I call Andy to make sure he’s home. He is, but Mark is visiting his sick grandmother, again. When I walk in I see a house much neater than I remember Andy keeping it.
Andy smiles “So clean its creepy, right?”
I nod.
“Mark’s a bit of a… clean freak. I don’t mind though.” He frowns at me “So what’s your Joe problem?”
“He didn’t tell his mom about us.”
“Ouch. His mom never knew about either.”
“Didn’t it hurt?” I ask.
He nods “Yes. But I got over it…”
“But we’re engaged!”
“I know so she should know…but don’t kill Joe about it his mom is scary…”
“I know… I just felt like I wasn’t important enough…”
He nods “I know Joe wouldn’t intentionally hurt you. The boy’s crazy about you. He was probably waiting for proper timing.”
“He said we both had a lot of drama and he didn’t want to add to it.”
“You guys did have lots of drama…”
“So now my question is, why am I paying a therapist I’ve yet to see when I can talk to you for free?”
He laughs.
“It still hurts…”
I hear a knock on the door. Andy goes to answer it.
Joe walks into the living room with a fake gasp, “Fancy seeing you here Patrick!”
I glare at him.
He sighs “See that there, you were supposed to at least smile.”
I shrug.
“Patrick I told her.”
I look up at him “Really?”
“Yes. I was smacked in the face. Then, she hugged me and then she slapped me again for not telling her. Then again for hurting you. So that’s three times I just got slapped in the face, would you like to get in line?”
“Yes.” I stand up and walk over to him I kiss his cheek.
“I thought…”
“I smacked your face with a kiss.” I giggle.
He smiles and hugs me “I thought you were going to hate me forever.”
“I could never hate you Joe…”
“I’m so sorry I just. I didn’t know how to tell her or what to say or when and… it was all very stressful. I just-“
I kiss his lips “It’s ok.” He kisses back. He gently pushes me on my back on Andy’s couch. He lies on top of me, kissing my neck. He nibbles, licks and sucks on my throat. I let out low moans. He moves back to my lips. I allow him in and feel his hands moving down to my zipper.
“In my car, now my couch too?” Andy asks flabbergasted.
I blush. I honestly forgot where we were.
“S-sorry Anders…” I bite my lip.
He shrugs “It’s ok… just please, stop.”
Joe frowns “But I was having fun!”
“Too bad!” Andy snaps.
I frown “Are you ok Andy?”
“Yes… sorry I’m just… Mark is staying with his mom tonight because his grandmother isn’t doing well…”
Joe nods “Sorry wanna come to my place? Adrienne, Patrick’s cousin we ditched… she’s there too.”
“Oh shit!” I frown “I forgot about-Shit!”
I grab my keys and run out the door.
I reach the door and realize that it’s locked and I still don’t have a key. Joe pulls up and get out with Andy.
“I’m amazed you didn’t get pulled over.” Andy laughs.
Joe unlocks the door. We walk inside and don’t see Adrienne. I go upstairs to the guest room.
I hear an odd noise so I open the door. Never do that
Adrienne and Ralph are on the bed, without clothes and you can pretty much guess the rest.
“UGH!” I close the door quickly.
I will be forever scarred by the images burned into my brain.
“What’s the matter?” Joe asks.
“Ralph’s here.” I say trying not to vomit.
“Where?”
“In Adrienne’s room.” I say feeling queasy.
“Why’s he in- Oh my god.”
Ralph and Adrienne walk out of the guest room clothes untidy, and messy hair. Adrienne blushes while Ralph looks pleased.
I shiver and look away.
“Um… Yuck.” Joe says “Ok one of you have got to clean that bed stuff because I don’t think I can.”
“I got it…” Adrienne says looking at Ralph.
“So… this is…”
“Awkward?” Andy offers.
I nod “Yes. Quite.”
“So, um while you guys were gone I stopped by to see you before I go back to Memphis…”
We nod.
“Um… and I kinda wanted to see if I could spend the night with you but uh… obviously you’re booked…”
“I don’t mind sharing a bed.” Adrienne smiles.
I groan feeling my stomach turn.
Joe scratches the back of his head, thinking. “Erm well I uh… I don’t really mind but please don’t…. don’t do that please…”
They nod and head back to the room.
“Yuck.” Andy frowns “So have you guys looked for wedding stuff?”
“A little.” I say.
“What have you decided?”
“Nothing.” We say.
“Well that should be interesting.” Andy giggles.
“Actually… Patrick you look really good in black… And neither one of is one for extremely dressy clothes… So maybe we should just wear something normal. We’re getting married, why wear something terrible? We should see each other the way we do every day. I think you look great with anything, and nothing so… Anyways… what do you think?”
“Sounds good to me.” I kiss his cheek.
“Have you guys worked on your vows?” Andy asks excitedly.
Joe blushes “Yeah…”
I frown “I’m not sure what I want to say yet… I don’t know how to put it into words.”
Joe smiles “You’ll figure it out.”
I nod “Probably.”
“Patrick, hat or no hat?”
I frown “Hat.”
“I like your hair.” Joe smiles.
“I like my hats.”
Joe sticks his tongue out at me.
“Any idea of what kind of place, or season?”
I shrug, blushing slightly. I’d like to get married outside somewhere in the fall where the leaves are different colors and… I’m zoning again…
“Patrick? Do you have something in mind?”
I shrug.
“It’s our wedding you can make some decisions too…” Joe smiles.
“Outside… Fall… Leaves changing color…”
Joe smiles “I like that…”
Andy smiles “I love you guys!” and hugs us both.
“Ok… we love you too Andy… even if you are weird.” Joe jokes.
Andy flips him off “So um… when are we seeing Pete next?”
“Friday… he asked if we would Friday…” I answer.
Ralph walks out and frowns “Um… do any of you…”
We stare at him blankly.
“Have uh…. Have a condom?”
“For God’s sake again?” I ask.
“No… she fell asleep… I’m sneaking out…”
“Ralph you can’t just do that!” Joe says “It’s wrong.”
“What’s really wrong is cheating on my girlfriend, with a married girl.” He shakes his head “Never again.”
“So wait you were just cheating with her?” I ask, my temper flairing.
“Patrick…” Joe frowns.
“Yeah sorry she just kinda hit on me and pulled me into the bedroom…”
“Adrienne isn’t like that!” I snap.
“Believe what you will. Anyways I’m out…” I jump at him.
Andy and Joe catch me before I can destroy him. He hurries out of the house.
Joe pushes me on the couch and sits on me “Baby, Ralph’s an idiot, we can explain it to Adrienne in the morning…”
I sigh “Whatever.”
Joe hugs me “I love how you care so much about other people. You are way to self-less honey…”
I smile “Yeah…”
