Having stayed friends after their separation from William Beckett's life, Brendon goes to Deacon, desperately needing his friend when he loses the love he's always cherished, even from afar.

Brendon bit his lip as he entered the compound through the back entrance, earning looks from Joe and Pete as he made his way over to Deacon, who pulled him into a hug. He let himself be pulled out of the main room as Deacon led him out of the sight of others and to a more secure, private area that they could talk. He had mentally connected with Deacon earlier and told him he needed to get away from Gabe’s home for a little while and Deacon had half demanded that his old friend come see him at the compound; no one really told Deacon no anymore. When they were alone in Deacon and Joe’s room, Brendon and the other vampire sat down next to each other at the edge of the bed.
“Talk to me,” Deacon said as he put his arm around the vampire he had grown to be friends with during his stay in William’s torture rooms. Brendon had been as nice to him as he could have been when he was under his two week starvation period, and in some odd way they had grown a bond that extended even outside of the mansion neither of them called home anymore. “Why did you have to get away?”
Brendon looked down as he folded his hands in his lap, studying his fingernails, even though they were clean and neat. “Ryland, Gabe’s medic, found a way to bring Holly back to the life,” Brendon answered slowly, his chest growing tight as he relived the memory. “She was the one that Ryan had know before he was turned, and even after, before William decided he was his favorite of the Beckett’s Boys. Apparently, when they were friends, he had feelings for her, and now that she’s a vampire, and neither of them have the worry of William anymore, he wants to be with her…”
Deacon fought back his urge to growl deep in his throat when he heard his friend’s voice crack at the end of the explanation. He knew Brendon had always loved Ryan, and that was why it had hurt him so much to watch the older male fawn over William as he had, and outside of William’s control, they had started a relationship. Hearing the news that Ryan had already broken up with Brendon made Deacon’s blood rush to his head as he fought to control his anger while he rubbed his friend’s arm. “I’m so sorry, Brendon,” he whispered before he kissed the side of his friend’s head, “I am glad you came here though. You don’t need to be wondering around in the state that you’re in right now.”
Brendon gave a slow nod as a soft sigh escaped his lips. “I just wish I had seen it coming, but I didn’t even have worries since I knew nothing of his past before he came to be one of the Boys,” Brendon muttered. “I wish I had some sort of warning…”
“Was he at least gentle about it?” Deacon questioned, ready to get up and leave if Ryan had dealt him an even shittier hand and been harsh about breaking up with him.
Brendon looked up as he nodded. “Oh, yeah,” he answered, “he was as nice as he could be, he really was, but that doesn’t soften the blow any, you know?”
Deacon nodded and held his friend close. “Yes, I know… You forget, Brendon, I came from a bad relationship the night that William found me, it was a hard, painful surprise for me to find Tom with the guy in our apartment… Greg I think it was... Doesn’t matter though, anyway, it was still something I had definitely not been expecting to find. It hurt so bad, then, because I had been blind to all the signs that William had pointed out after he turned me, when my mind wasn’t so dulled with human emotions.”
Brendon stared into the icy blue orbs, that stared into his liquid browns, and nodded to show that he was following what he said. He wrapped an arm around Deacon and rubbed the side his hand rested on, wanting him to know he was there for him, even if it no longer hurt to talk about. “Did it feel like you couldn’t breathe?”
Deacon looked down and nodded as he brought up the memory in his own mind, replaying it so he could better talk of it. “I felt like I had fallen twenty stories high up and landed flat on my chest, like the world was pressing into me, crushing my lungs… When he asked me to leave so he could finish getting laid… It felt like the world lifted, long enough for a knife to stab my chest.” He shook his head, his icy blues turning a darker blue as the pain from the memory touched him. “The last time I had been hurt like that was when Sabine turned up missing, and no one could find him. I felt like I was losing everything all over again and there was no way to stop it.”
“I’m sorry Deacon,” Brendon said as he gave his friend’s side a small squeeze before he continued rubbing it again.
Deacon shook his head, his eyes returning to their gorgeous icy blue as he looked at Brendon, smiling. “All you need is someone to heal you, a different version of how William was to me, I guess you could say.” He was silent for a moment before he gave a soft laugh. “Preferably one who isn’t going to end up being the bane of your existence until you can find someone better,” he said through a giggle that made Brendon smile.
“Who knows, after I find my William, maybe I can find my Joe,” Brendon said with a teasing smirk as he lightly poked Deacon in the side, making the younger vampire squirm.
“Fine, find your Joe, but you can’t have mine, got it?” Deacon smiled as he brushed Brendon’s hair from his face. “I have an idea, and it’ll get your mind off of Ryan.”
Brendon fixed a confused stare on him, wondering what could possibly work to keep his mind off of Ryan. “And what might that be, oh wonderful Deacon, knower of all?” He questioned, his words dripping with his playful sarcasm.
“Well, I’m supposed to help Andy and Pete train on their hunting skills, why don’t you join me? I’ll take Pete, you take Andy, or whichever way you would prefer it, and it would also be a good chance to brush up on your own skills. You know, protect yourself better since you’re used to being a house pet?” He lightly nudged him and pushed his lower lip out. “Please Brendon? Practice with us?”
“Does it really help to get your mind off of things?” Brendon questioned, his voice ringing with his uncertainty.
“Yeah, it does,” Deacon answered, giving him one more hug before he rose to his feet and pulled Brendon up so that he was standing as well. “And as I said, you can have Pete or Andy, and I’ll take who you don’t.”
“You can have Pete, I know he wants me dead,” Brendon said as he shook his head. “Although that would help me out even more, I know for a fact I wouldn’t be ready for that kind of brutal attacking. You said it yourself, I’m used to being a house pet.”
