It's never too late then to submit your chars, I'll just stop taking forms when I pick the 4 people I need.]
Brendon watched Andy with unmoving eyes as he studied his practice partner, waiting for him to make the first move. The two of them were alone in one of the many training rooms, since neither of them had trained together and Brendon wanted to keep it fair by not having the ability to read Deacon or Pete’s minds and figure out his weaknesses. He had requested that they go light at first, so he could get used to moves and Andy had agreed to it, but he had no idea what kind of things were involved in light, so he knew he had to be prepared for anything. All around the room were weapons either person could grab, but for now Brendon went without and Andy had his weapons of choice at his waist.
Andy’s hands flexed on the stakes that he held in his hands, and as soon as those were gone he would have others in hand with the small set his kept in his belt, next to his collapsible rod and sword sheath. The sword was at his left hip and the metal rod at his right since they were where they would be easiest for him to manage once they were grabbed.
It was Andy that made the first move, hurling a stake at Brendon that barely missed as Brendon dodged to the right, yelping when the stake cut through his shirt and grazed his skin. He didn’t stay still for too long as Andy advanced at him, a stake in his hand as he aimed for a spot to the side of Brendon’s heart, should he actually hit. He knew the purpose of the training was to help each other learn, so he wanted to be careful not to cause any mortal wounds. That’s why he hadn’t chosen the mercury stakes that Samoyed had made for them not too long after the fight with Beckett and his Dandies in the woods. These were plain wooden stakes that didn’t do that much damage to a vampire.
Brendon yelped in pain when the stake got buried in his arm, and quickly removed when Andy realized he had struck him. He danced away from Andy, holding his arm as he concentrated on healing it, flushing under the laughter that escaped Andy. “What happened to taking it easy?” He pouted as he danced away from the advancing human, keeping his speed slow since he was trying to be fair.
Andy chuckled as he twirled a stake in his fingers. “I am keeping it easy,” he replied, “should I go easier for the baby?” He taunted, wanting to try and make this a little more fun by provoking him.
“You don’t need to go easier,” he snapped as he advanced on Andy, who was shocked to find that in a split second Brendon now held two of the stakes before he had hurled them across the training room.
Andy grinned as he lifted a brow. He wouldn’t go for the stakes since he knew to turn his back on Brendon, let alone anyone, during a training exercise wasn’t a good idea. “Well, looks like there is some fight in the baby vampire after all,” he mused, continuing the taunting as he got another stake out from his row. “Show me how much you can handle and we’ll go from there, how’s that?”
Brendon twisted and turned his arm since it was healed now and nodded. “That works for me,” he said before he advanced on Andy and ducked below the swing of the stake, coming back up in time to grab his arm and push it around behind Andy’s back, grabbing the other arm and repeating it. He smiled, flashing his fangs at Andy before he quickly bent his head and nipped the skin over his jugular, being careful to not break the skin before he danced away. “You’re dead. Try again?”
Andy laughed to cover up the sudden chill that had gone through his body at the younger male’s mouth being in such an intimate spot, and having fangs about to break open his throat. “Sure, try to kill me again.” When Brendon advanced on him, Andy quickly ducked under the attempted grab and snapped open his metal rod to hit the back of Brendon’s knees. When Brendon hit the ground, he pushed him onto all fours and quickly stood over him, the gun he had tucked into the back of his pants and Brendon’s head, cocked with his finger on the trigger. “You’re dead,” he smirked, nudging him with one of his knees that were on either side of him. “Try again?”
“Are you so sure I’m the one that’s dead?” Brendon asked as he turned his head slightly, looking at Andy out of the corner of his eye.
Andy looked down when Brendon’s head lowered a little and laughed when he saw that Brendon’s arm was up and turned behind him, a butterfly switchblade knife opened and pressing into the sweet spot of Andy’s crotch. “Good one,” he said through his laughter. “I thought you didn’t have anything on you?” He got up from the spot and helped Brendon up, who smiled at him, amused.
“When I advanced at you, before I ducked I made it to the wall and back but continued the way I was headed so you wouldn’t even notice,” Brendon answered, running the fingers of his free hand through his hair, his free hand twirled the butterfly switchblade. “And, you didn’t. Try again?”
Andy nodded as he moved away, running over an attack in his mind as Brendon moved away, eyeing him with a predator’s stare. “Not to shed light on a dark past, but I can see why he had you as one of the fighters, you’re quicker than the others, I never even blinked and I missed you.”
Brendon’s laugh echoed in the spacious room, his eyes showing his amusement more than the laugh. “I put most to shame with my speed, but I don’t let it get to my head,” he said as he was the one to advance on Andy again, winding up behind him before the red-haired man knew was happening. When Andy realized Brendon was behind him, he had Brendon’s arms wrapped tightly around him, the one arm bent at an angle that let the knife be pressed into the hollow of Andy’s throat. “I know that speed can have its faults for some vampires,” he whispered against the side of Andy’s neck, his breathe tickling his captive’s ear, “sometimes you never see an attack coming so you don’t cover the possibility of them moving their arms to get a weapon, but with how I’ve got you, Andy, you can’t go anywhere and right now you’re an easy meal for me.”
Andy swallowed, the action pressing the tip of the knife into his throat a little more, not enough to break the skin, as he realized that if Brendon were lying to everyone, putting on a show, then he could easily break him right now and start killing off the others. He tensed at the realization, only to have the arms around him loosen to a lighter hold as he realized Brendon’s nose was touching his skin as it slowly moved.
“I’m not betraying anyone, Andy,” he whispered before he shut the knife and put it in Andy’s back pocket since it was one of the group’s training tools and not one of his own. “I haven’t been loyal to William for a very long time.”
Andy felt the weight suddenly lifted away from him and he turned, not seeing Brendon anywhere in the room. He frowned, worried he had chased him off, but when he realized he had never heard the door open or shut, he grinned and knew what was going on. He felt a slight pressure in his head, the same pressure he felt when Pete tried to read his mind, and he thought of grabbing a stake and turning around, but when he heard the movement behind him, his action betrayed his thoughts.
Brendon was unpleasantly surprised when Andy turned for the attack and he found a high-voltage taser press into his stomach, making him double over in small convulsions. He felt arms secure around him before he could hit the floor and as the small trembles passed, he looked up at Andy, who grinned down at him and helped him stand straight, keeping an arm around him until he could stand on his own. “Did you change your mind at he last minute?” He questioned, rubbing his stomach.
Andy shook his head as he slowly rubbed a circle on Brendon’s back, knowing how those tasers felt for vampires since Deacon had let them hit him with one so they could see how a full vampire was affected. “No, I knew you were searching, so I gave you something other than what I was going to do,” he answered
“How did you know I was searching?” Brendon questioned as Andy removed his shirt.
Andy noticed the look on Brendon’s face when he took off his shirt, and he chuckled as he tossed it a few feet away. “Sorry, I do better when I don’t feel constricted,” he said, answering the silent question Brendon probably had. “And, I can tell. When Pete first turned, he was reading everyone’s minds, but I felt it, it’s this weird pressure, and I think something that I don’t care if he hears, or when we train, I never let him in.”
“Not many humans can do that, you know…”
Andy nodded as he studied Brendon. “I know, which is why I’m thankful for me since I pride myself on my fighting abilities. I’m the best fighter out of these guys, which is I why I can’t afford to have anything happen.”
Brendon gave a nod of understanding as he admired the tattoos etched into Andy’s skin, amazed out how the colors stood out, vibrant, against his pale skin. “I understand. Try again?” He questioned with a smirk.
