Joe and I are sitting on my mother’s couch, discussing wedding things. We’re writing a list. We’ve decided on this much---

Date: October 22, 2009

Place: underneath the oak tree in my mom’s yard.

Best man: Andy

Ring person: Mark

Flower girl: Joe’s cousin, Mary

Groomsmen: Brendon, Ryan, Gerard, Frank, Mikey, Ray, John and Spencer.

My mother and Joe’s parents are sitting on the front seats, on the two different columns.

Dress- fall colors, casual

Vows- still working on

Song played while walking- purple rain =)

What we’re wearing- NOTHING!
Joe, we can’t wear nothing.
Party pooper.
Ok so wearing, undecided…

Type of flowers- white roses

Honeymoon destination- Amsterdam!
Rolls eyes Joe, really?
Ya, come on please?
Fine… but I’m not getting high.
I know, and I wont… on purpose.
Grr

Colors- orange, black, and other fall colors

Anything else- We don’t know.

He scans over our lists and giggles at our writing back and forth.

“I think we should get married. Without disguises. No big Afro to cover up an area code. And no hat for you to hide under.”
I frown, liking very much to hide under my hat. I understand his reasoning. Getting married means we should be open to each other.

“Do you really want to?” I ask reluctantly.

He nods “Yes. It would make me feel close enough to be ready.”

I nod “Ok. Then you win I’ll do it.”

He grins and hugs me tightly “I love you!”

“Yeah yeah, you better!” I giggle.

He smiles and kisses my lips. I kiss back. My mom walks in, clearing her throat. I pull away from him and give him a smile. Mom looks over our list.

“These are really good ideas….”

We smile “Thanks!”

“I can’t believe my baby is about to be married!”

“Well, Kevin’s been married 3 times.”

“He’s not my baby. And those times didn’t count.”

I smile at her.

Joe looks over at her “So, what are you going to wear?”

“I don’t really know. Maybe a shirt that’s orange and black pants.”

“Cool, but can I change one thing?” He asks.

“Um, ok?”

“Well, two things. How about instead of a T-shirt we make it a blouse, and instead of pants, you should wear a skirt. To catch Josh’s eye.” He grins.

Mom smiles “That would be nice, but I need to buy-”

“Buy all you need, I got it.”

Mom blushes “No, really Joe…”

“Hey… You’re son’s getting married, why can’t you have a little romance of your own?”

Mom lushes even more “I, um” she laughs nervously, “I’ll think about It.” And goes back inside.

Joe chuckles and rubs his palm against the back of my hand.

I smile at him and kiss the back of his hand.

“Patrick, I feel completely ready to marry you.” Joe says with a slight smile.

“Really?”

He looks over and nods “I can’t imagine my life any other way now…”

“I can’t either.” I smile, looking into his brown eyes.

“Patrick. You are the most wonderful boy in the world”

I giggle “Nope that’s your title.”

“Oh? Then what’s yours?”

“Husband to be to the most wonderful boy in the world.” I grin.

He giggles and wraps his arms around me, “No, that’s mine.”

Andy shows Joe and I what he’s going to wear to the wedding. It’s a orange Suit-T-shirt and black slacks.

“Cool right?” he asks.

We nod and ask about Mark’s whereabouts. He is again will his ill grandmother.

“She’s doing really bad” Andy frowns “The doctors aren’t thinking she’ll live much longer.”

“That’s terrible.” I frown.

He nods “So, what did you guys come up with?”

“He’s making me get married, hatless!” I pout.

“You agreed!”

I nod “Remind me to stop doing that.”

Andy also looks over the list and approves.

Joe looks over at me with a smile. I lean on him and take in the scent of his polo cologne. I breathe out with a small smile.

Joe helps me get ready for bed. We lay down and he kisses me. I kiss back feeling the urge to shed my clothes, but I remember my uh, injury. So I settle with kissing, thank god it should be healed before our wedding night. I could kiss this boy forever. Instead of going to sleep as we originally planned, we stay up and have a mature conversation.

“If you had to be a frog or a goldfish, which and why?” Joe asks.

“A frog because I don’t want to swim in my own piss and shit.” I say.

“Ew, I almost said goldfish cause I could swim all day!”

I laugh “OK if you had to paint your foot one color, what color and why?”

“Green, because it’d look like your pretty eyes.” He smiles.

“I would…. yellow.”

“Why?”

“Exactly. No one wants yellow. That’s why.”

“Ok… Barney or Teletubbies?”

“Neither!”

“Gotta pick one.”

“Teletubbies.”

“Me too.”

“So, blueberry or chocolate muffin?”

“Chocolate!” he grins.

“Blueberry.”

Ah, stimulating conversation…

Joe’s cousin Mary has brown curly hair, much like Joe’s, and bright green eyes. She is seven years old, but she still holds up six fingers. She has a small voice, but she knows how to use it. She begged to come over and show us her dress.

She runs to the bathroom to change into it. Joe’s Aunt Vikki looks over at me and smiles.

“You be good to my Joey now.” She smiles.

I pull him into a hug “Don’t worry, I will.”

Mary comes out, wearing her purple and orange dress. She informs us that it is going to be her witch costume too.

Joe Mary and I play outside until it’s completely dark outside. We play basketball, jump rope, Hide and go seek, and the rest of those games. We go inside, still trying to catch our breath, and Mary asks her mom if she can stay the night.

“It’s up to them really.” She says.

Joe looks over at me “I’m fine with it.”

I nod “Me too.”

After her mom leaves Joe begs to have pizza. Missing it myself, I agree. We go to Wal-Mart to get a frozen pizza. That turns into getting pizza, three different kinds of ice cream, cookie and brownie mix, a chocolate cake, cupcakes, whip cream, and a trampoline!

“Wow.” I say on our way back home.

“Yeah.” Joe nods “But it wont go to waste.” He grins.

I chuckle.

We get home and stay up late watching movies, jumping on the trampoline, and eating. While jumping on the trampoline Mary asks Joe and I a question.

“You guys are really good with kids so why won’t you have any?”

“Because, two boys can’t make a baby, Mary.” Joe answers.

“So why not be with a girl?” She frowns.

Joe smiles at her and picks her up. He wraps his other arm around me.

“Because, Mary Nicole, I love him. I wouldn’t mind having a kid but I’d rather be with someone I really love.”

Mary nods “Patrick, do you really love Joey back?”

I smile “Very much.”

Joe jumps with her in his arms.

When we finally do lay down Joe looks over at me.

“Having a kid would be fun, huh?”

I nod “Yeah…”

He frowns.

Is he starting to regret?

“Well, night Patrick.” He yawns and turns off the lamp.

“Night Joe….” I frown.
