Gerard bit his thumbnail and cursed silently in his mind at the drawing facing him. Her eyes sparkled up, smiling brightly at him whilst her perfect lips curved in to an alluring grin. His pencil strokes had caressed her high cheekbones before he'd sketched her beautiful long hair sweeping elegantly over her flawless forehead. Everything about her was beautiful.

True to his word he had not checked her account in over three weeks but instead of lessening his infatuation, his curiosity and obsession and grown out of all proportion. He found himself spending the hours sat watching the road roll by and wondering what she was doing, how she was coping, who she was with. Every second was consumed with his captivation and it made it all the worse knowing that he couldn't even watch her from a distance.

His eyes scanned her face and he sighed sadly.

"I don't get it, why don't you just call her? What's the big deal?" Bob's piercing blues speared Gerard as he tossed down the games console controller and shifted in his seat to face his band mate.

Gerard smiled ruefully at the blond drummer and shrugged his shoulders. "It's hard to explain."

"You and Mikey both liked her so you decided to give her a wide berth but now she's somehow back in your life and you wanna give it a go. Mikey, understandably, is a bit pissed about it, but he's married now so where's the problem?" Bob cocked his head and smiled.

Despite himeslf Gerard found himself grinning back at Bob's naivety. "If only it was that simple."

"Why isn't it? Okay so I know I don't have all the information but there was a time when you were happy, really happy and you used to sit and draw that face over and over with a dumb ass grin on your dumb ass face. What's so bad about that?"

Gerard sighed slowly, "Ask Mikey, he's the one with the problem."

"Since when did Mikey turn in to your keeper?"

"Like I said, it's complicated."

"Yeah? Well answer me this, would hooking up with Kelly make you any more miserable than you are now because, let's face it, you're hardly jumping for joy are you?" Bob picked up the controller and shrugged. "Not that it's any of my business man, I just think you're torturing yourself needlessly."

"Not sure Mikey would agree."

"Hmm, maybe."

Bob's attention was back on the sharp graphics rolling across the large flat screen but his words hung heavily in the air. Would getting in touch with Kelly really be so bad if it made him happy? He knew he was not the same person anymore, he knew how to be her friend, he knew how to respect her now.

"You know what? Maybe you're right." He muttered quietly as he stood and took himself off to the stairs. He quietly made his way through the sleeping bodies rocking gently in their bunks until he found himself in the large seating area at the back of the bus. Sinking in to the seat he snatched up his laptop and tentatively opened it and booted up.

He sat wringing his hands as he impatiently waited for the screen to light up and welcome him on line. Seconds later he was logging in to his account, chewing on his lip as he shoved all of his misgivings and guilt to the back of his mind. He knew Mikey wouldn't like it but Bob was right, it couln't make him any more unhappy than he already was... could it?

As the relevant page loaded his heart jumped nauseatingly in to his mouth. He had a new message. No one knew of this account and the only time he'd ever used it to message anyone was almost four weeks earlier when he'd questioned Louise. With shaky hands he opened up his messages only to have his heart lurch painfully again. He slammed down the lid and glanced around the room nervously, the beads of sweat forming on his brow glistening against his suddenly paled skin.

Feeling foolish he slowly he lifted the lid. He hadn't imagined it. His eyes scanned the name slowly, savoring the text.

Kelly. The message was from Kelly. He clicked through to see her words, impatiently chewing his lips as the machine whirred quietly on his lap.

Hi. Louise passed on your concern and I have to say I am quite surprised as I don't think I know you but you seem to know me. I don't recognize any of your details but Lou said you were an old friend.
I'm sorry but I honestly can't remember you, who are you? How do you know me?
Again sorry if I offend but you've intrigued me. Message back, please.

He felt his head swim dizzily and realized that he'd been holding his breath. He exhaled and tried to will his racing heart to slow down.

The date on the message showed him that she'd sent it a few days after Louise had replied. He read and reread the text as he attempted to untangle the web of thoughts fogging his mind.

"Fuck it." He mumbled, his desire to answer her message smothering any argument that tried to arise.

Hi Kel
You won't recognise the name because it's not my real name.

He bit his lip and hit delete as a fresh idea formed in his mind. He could still be in her life without anyone knowing about it. Not Bob, Mikey, Louise or even Kelly herself. Slowly he began to type his message.

Kelly, my Angel. I'm hurt that you don't remember me but I can't say I blame you. We used to chat a few years back but we lost contact and I ended up deleting my account. Anyway I got back on here not so long ago and remembered the rocking conversations we used to have so figured I'd look you up but I noticed you were having a bit of a rough time so I thought I'd check in with your friend first. How are you?

He knew she'd doubt him but he had all the personal information on her he needed to prove that they were once friends. The only problem now would be if she decided not to reply but again, she was far too nice a person to ignore him.
He felt the thrill of excitement burn down his spine as he hit the send button. He felt alive and exhilarated.

"And this is what you do to me after one generic message." He chuckled to the laptop as he logged out and closed it down.

Gone was the doubt and guilt, replaced instead by elation and comfort. He might not have kept his promise to Mikey but he felt pretty damn good about it.

With a wide smile he pushed himself up and headed back to Bob. He had a body full of adrenaline that he needed to release and a mindless session on a fast paced, gruesome and bloody game was just what the doctor ordered.
