“Wow, Joe, you actually made these?” Hilary questioned as she looked over the weapons that were in their spots along the wall, and some on the table in front of the display.

Joe blushed slightly under the appraisal as he gave a nod and ran his hand over one of his guns. “Although, I didn’t make the bullets and stakes we use, I just came up with the idea after finding out that vampires do have a weakness.” He ran a hand through his fro as Deacon came up beside him and peered over his boyfriend’s shoulder at the weapon lay out. “Our friend, Gabe Saporta, he helped make the weapons, he even has his fighters use them against other vampires if there’s a threat.”

“How did you find out about the mercury?” Salcido asked as he looked at the bright silver stakes laid out on the table in four rows of seven.

“Pete and I were arguing,” Joe answered as he slid his arm around Deacon, who had moved to his side now, “and he was holding a thermometer. At one point I guess I said something to really piss him off and he tightened his hand around it, and the minute the glass broke, he screamed. We cleaned the wound out, and it wouldn’t close until it was fully cleaned out, we put two and two together. I went to Gabe and he made up the first stake, we’ve been using them since.

“Why was he holding a thermometer?” Micah, the human male, asked as he looked from one of Andy’s custom swords to Joe.

“Patrick thought he was running a temperature so he checked it and then asked Pete to put the thermometer back in the medicine cabinet for him,” Joe answered as he looked at Claire, who was watching him and Deacon.

Hilary noticed the way Claire was watching the two vampires and shook her head, knowing that Claire had a problem with anyone who wasn’t only interested in the opposite sex. She didn’t like the girl as it was, so her looking at her friend and his lover the way she was only added to her dislike of the other human girl. “So, how did you two meet? And when did you go gay on me, Joseph?” She questioned, smiling at him as he blushed under her stare.

Joe looked at Deacon, unsure if he was allowed to expose everything, or what all he was allowed to say. “Would you like to tell it?” He questioned.

Deacon smiled, finding the aversion cute, and nodded as he looked at Hilary. “I was in William Beckett’s home, one of his favorite pets, and I betrayed him, in his opinion, and he discarded me, left me out for dead. Patrick and Pete found me and brought me back here, and Joe risked his life to help me, from that point on we had some weird bond, and been together since.”

Hilary smiled and looked at Joe. “And when did you realize you liked the booty Trohman?”

“I’ve always been an ass man,” he grinned, earning a small slap on the back of the head from Deacon, who returned his grin. “It was sometime in high school, but I just kept it to myself,” he finally answered with a small shrug. “I’m happy to have him.”

“You guys are awesome together,” Hilary said as she gave her friend and his lover a smile. “Anyone who could ever have a problem with you guys would be stupid to have one.” Out of the corner of her eye she saw Claire shrink back slightly, obviously catching the hint in her words.

Hilary looked up when Pete and Nate walked back into the room from Pete showing Nate around the compound. She moved away from Joe and Deacon to wrap her arms around Nate, who pulled her close, his protective instincts calming down now with her so close. She smiled up at her boyfriend, and then looked to her brother, who was watching the scene with his protective older brother eyes. The sight made her smile as she pulled away from Nate and hugged her brother close, unable to believe she was actually standing here with her brother who had been missing for the past years.

“I’m still reeling from this,” she said softly into his shoulder as she laid her head there, smiling a little. “I can’t believe you’re alive, I thought you were dead.”

“I might as well be, but I’m still alive.” he said as he rubbed his sister’s back, shooting daggers at Nate, who was watching with mild irritation at someone holding his girlfriend besides himself.

“Pete, can we talk in private?” Hilary asked, after taking a moment to muster up some courage. She lifted her head and looked up at her brother, her eyes showing her slight urgency to get him alone.

Salcido tensed, noticing the change in her demeanor, but kept his eyes on the guns until Hilary and Pete had left the room. He turned his attention to Deacon and Joe, who were having a quiet conversation with Nate, before he looked to the human male of their group, Micah, who had just been standing there, looking at the weapons.

“They’re pretty cool, aren’t they?” He said as he moved over to Micah, who looked at him when he realized the attention was directed at him.

Micah gave a slow nod and turned his attention back to the layout, thoroughly enjoying the great display. He knew that a display like this would definitely help out their little group. “I’ve never seen anything like these, only heard of them. They would definitely help out on the hunts.”

Salcido nodded and looked at the guns that used mercury and regular bullets, wondering how in the Hell this group could have gotten so lucky in discovering a vampire’s weakness besides the obvious of sun, starvation, and decapitation. He ran his fingers along the sheath of one of Andy’s swords, eyeing the designs on the casing, and found himself wondering just how well the human fought with his sword.
