Gerard looked up at me blankly. "Nothing happened." He said plainly.

I just stared at him not believing him. "Gerard don't lie to me." I said leaning against the wall. "I can't take it." I sighed. I felt like I was going to collapse.

"Elle I mean it." He said looking over at me. "I fucking went there and the place was empty. I mean fucking vacant... Looked like he took off in a hurry too." Gerard sighed a little disappointed.

"Well I guess since you um burnt the store down that he uh-" Lia started to say and I shook my head no. Gerard came over and wrapped his arm around me.

'I had to go baby.' He whispered to me. I didn't answer him... I knew he had to.. I just didn't like it...

"Gerard didn't burn the store down Lia." I said as he kissed my cheek.

"It wasn't you was it?" Lia asked me a little worried.

"Paul." I said softly looking up at Gerard he kissed my nose and I smiled at him.

"You told Paul!" Lia screeched waving her arms in the air wildly.

"I didn't tell him, he just..." I shook my head at her. "Lia I really don't want to talk about this right now, okay." I groan a little.

"Does he know you're pregnant too!" Lia yells at me.

"Lia I don't even know if I'm pregnant!. What the fuck!" I tell her. Damn I really needed a cigarette...

"Wait you don't know for sure?" Bob asked rubbing his eyes a little. He looked over at the clock and made a face. It was fucking 4:30 in the morning.

I shook my head "No, I mean I...I'm not sure." I told him. Gerard sighed and hugged me closer.

"Well, how do you find out for sure?" Bob said stretching his arms over his head. I just looked at him blankly and didn't say anything. No one did...Bob was waiting for an answer. I shrugged at him. "Well, what the fuck are you guys gonna do!" Bob yells at all of us. "Wait nine months and see what happens!" He laughs.

"No she is going to go take a pregnancy test." Lia says folding her arms.

"Right now!" I laugh. Lia nods.

"Lia come on its like 5 am. I've gotta go take a shower and get dressed for school, I cant skip again. I skipped yesterday." I sighed and absentmindedly reached for the cigarettes on the table.

"Whoa." Gerard said snatching them from me. "You can't smoke." He said putting them into his pocket.

"What?" I said a little desperately. I had never needed a cigarette so badly. "I'm probably not even pregnant, its probably just all the stress and..." I said reaching for them. Gerard pushed my arm away.

"Not until you know for sure Elle." He said firmly. I made a face.

"I agree with Gerard." Lia said nodding.

"Holy shit! I never thought I'd see the day you two agree." I laugh.

"What's the matter Elle- is it throwing off your whole cosmic alignment- us getting along!" Lia laughs. "Are we going to destroy the universe now!" Lia's smiling. Gerard laughs.

"aw fuck you both!" I say and turn to Bob. "Bob...honey...my dear, sweet, darling husband, you don't agree with them do you?" I say sweetly taking his hand in mine.

"Elle." He says looking down at me. " My lovely wife. It pains me to say this to you but yes." He says shaking his head a little.

"Aw fuck you too!" I say dropping his hand. I look at all three of them. "Let me just go change into some jeans then okay?" I tell them.

"For what?" Lia asks.

"So we can go to the store?" I say talking down to her a little. She frowns.

"Right now?" She yells a little. "You're going right now at fucking 5 am!" She laughs a little. I shake my head yes.

"The sooner we know for sure the better." I say. Gerard nods. I went and changed clothes quickly. There was no way the test was going to be positive... It just couldn't.... God it couldn't...that just wouldn't be fair...I don't deserve this do I?... pull it together Elle. If Gerard sees you all worked up again...ah... just don't let it show... suck it up...
We ended up in Bob's car. I'm not really sure why. Bob was driving and Lia sat in the front seat, while Gerard and I were in the back.

"So where we going?" Lia asks playing with the radio.

"I guess the supermarket, they're open 24 hours right?" I say leaning my head onto Gerard's shoulder. He was sitting behind Lia. I rested my right arm on his leg. He wrapped his arm around me and gently touched my bandaged left arm, but didn't say anything.

"I gotta stop for gas first." Bob tells us. "You guys got any money?"

Money? Fuck! I don't have any money on me. "Can you stop at the ATM first?" I ask and he nods.

"Oooh look Ellie its you song!" Lia cries out raising the radio volume up.

"Your song?" Gerard says.

"My Michelle, you know Guns and Roses?" Lia says smiling a little.

"Please do not do this today Lia." I sigh rubbing my eyes a little as she starts to sing along. Lia cant sing for shit either!

"Your daddy works in porno- Now that mommy's not around- She used to love her heroine -But now she's underground-" Lia sings along and I cringe a little.

"Uh Lia-" Bob says softly. She ignores him and keeps singing.

"So you stay out late at night -And you do your coke for free -Drivin' your friends crazy- With your life's insanity" She sings. "Well, well, well you just can't tell-Well, well, well my Michelle." She carries on.

"Can you turn it off Bob?" Gerard says loudly.

"No!" Lia says a little annoyed.

"Do you want me to turn it off honey?" Bob asks looking over his shoulder at me.

"No its okay." I tell him.

"I wish you would stop calling her that!" Lia says frowning a little. Bob just smiled.

Lia raised the volume up more. "Sowin' all your wild oats -In another's luxuries -Yesterday was Tuesday -Maybe Thursday you can sleep -But school starts much too early -And this hotel wasn't free -So party till your connection calls -Honey I'll return the keys." Lia continued to sing horribly. Gerard squeezed me tighter to him. Lia pulled out a cigarette and went to light it.

"Why does she get to smoke!" I yell sitting up a little. Lia makes a face.

"What?!" She laughs. "I can smoke whenever I want... I'm not-"

"That sucks!" I say loudly. "You guys wont let me smoke but I gotta sit here and watch her!"

"Put it out Lia." Bob tells her. She makes a face. "I mean it Li." He says giving her a hard look. Lia frowns but puts it out. She turns her attention back to the song...

And continued to sing. "Everyone needs love - You know that it's true - Someday you'll find someone - That'll fall in love with you- But oh the time it takes- When you're all alone- Someday you'll find someone- That you can call your own -But till then ya better..."

As the guitar sounds filled the car Lia hummed along slightly. I rested my head back on Gerard. No one spoke for a while. Lia continued to sing.

"Now you're clean - And so discreet-I won't say a word -But most of all this song is TRUE- Case you haven't heard- So c'mon and stop your CRYING''- Cause we both know money burns -Honey don't stop tryin'; -An' you'll get what you DESERVE!"

Deserve? The word echoed in my head...."Shut it off!" I screamed sitting up quickly.

"What's the matter with you!" Lia says startled.

"I swear to God Lia you're going to give me a nervous breakdown!" I say hyperventilating a little.

"A little moody aren't we Elle?" Lia smirks. "and you say you're not pregnant!" Lia laughs. I squeeze my eyes shut and rub my temples.

"Lia shut the fuck up." Gerard say kicking the back of her seat.

"OW!" She yells turning around in her seat. "Bob Gerard just kicked me." She tells him.

"Turn the fucking radio off Lia!" Gerard yells at her.

"NO!" She yells back.

"Just stop it both of you!" I say as Bob slams on the breaks.

"We're here." He says. I look out the window; he stopped in the middle of the road in front of the bank. There's an ATM in a little glass booth thing by the door. It was still raining. I went to open my door and Lia stopped me.

"No I'll go it's raining." She says.

"I'm not gonna fucking melt!" I tell her.

"Just give me the card." She says holding her hand out. I sigh and hand it to her.

"Your birthday right?" She says. "The pin number?"

"Yeah" I say and Lia hops out and runs across the road. We watched as Lia pressed buttons and more buttons. She turned and looked over her shoulder and shrugged. Then she pressed more buttons. When she started pounding on the screen, I reached for my door handle.

"Where you going?" Gerard asks me.

"Gerard Lia gets along with computers like I get along with combination locks!" I tell him and he makes a face.

"I'll go." He says jumping out.

Bob and I watched as Gerard argued with Lia in the rain in front of the ATM. Bob had the windows closed but it was obvious they were arguing. Lia waved her arms a little and pushed Gerard out of the way and started pressing buttons again.

"What are we going to do with them Bobby?" I sighed leaning over and touching Bobs hair. He laughed a little.

"Fucking hurry up." Bob mumbles. "We're almost out of gas." He says to me as Lia and Gerard started walking back to the car.

"Where's the-" I ask. Gerard's shaking his head.

"It ate your card Elle." Lia says putting her seatbelt on.

"What?!" I gasp.

"She put in the wrong pin number and it ate it." Gerard says trying not to smile.

"I don't understand!" I say looking at him. "It ate it?"

"I'm sorry Elle." Lia sighed.

"How did you put it in wrong?" I ask her. "Its my fucking birthday!" I yell a little.

"I wasn't sure if you meant the year or the day or.." Lia smiled a little.

"You should've asked then Lia!" I yell at her.

"I didn't know it was going to fucking eat the card Elle!" She laughs. "I don't have a bank account you know."

"So how do I get it back?" I say looking over at Gerard.

"You can get it back when the bank opens." Gerard shrugs.

"Are you kidding me!" I tell him. He looks at me like no, I'm serious. "Gerard! I have no money, I mean NO money on me -at all!"

"Baby, we can buy the test in a few hours after the bank opens, it's not a big deal." He says wiping the tears that were filling my eyes now.

"Fuck the test!" Bob cries out. "If you guys don't come up with some fucking gas money, like now!.... Were gonna be walking home!..."
