~Final Chapter~
“What the hell is going on Lola? Hmm?” Gerard asked as Lola clung to Bob tighter who stared down Gerard.
“Gerard…I can explain-”
“Well get to it cause I’m wondering why I was told by Siren to come pick you up, and see I you with…who are you?” Gerard asked Bob who clenched his jaw.
“Don’t worry about it.” he retorted and Gerard raised an eyebrow.
“I’m afraid I can’t do that.” he replied and reached inside his coat and slowly pulled out a gun. Lola whimpered.
“Who is he?” Bob whispered.
“That’s Gerard. He’s…my first boss.” she whispered back and looked back at Gerard in fear. He still looked as cruel as he did when he had her under his will. The things he did to her…
“Why are you doing this?” she asked as he smirked.
“You really think you can leave us? We fucking own you Lola. That damn code on your wrist is there forever.”
“Not if I can help it.” Bob intervened. Gerard pointed the gun at Bob who took a deep breath.
“Don’t be a hero.” Gerard replied and smiled.
“Well go on and shoot me then.” Bob said while slowly letting Lola onto her feet who whimpered as she didn’t want to let go of him. Fear plain on her face as he looked at her and touched her cheek. She held her stomach as he turned back to Gerard.
“No!” Lola yelled as Gerard cocked the gun.
“Lola, Lola.” Gerard shook his head. “Always getting into something aren’t ya?”
“Please Gerard!” she pleaded.
“Please what?” he snapped.
“Please let me go.” she said softly.
“Why would I do that?” he smirked. Lola took deep breaths. She felt sick and almost about to faint. Bob wrapped an arm around her waist as her knees bucked slightly.
“Because I can’t take this anymore.” she bust into tears as she looked up at him, she was shaking from the cold and felt so weak.
“Look at me.” she said softly. “My ribs are fractured in three places. I have bruises covering every part of my body. I feel sick and I’m more than certain I’m going to faint. My body aches and I see double. All because of this” she smiled softly and pointed between her and Gerard.
“So fine. If you want to shoot me, then fucking shoot me!” she yelled and broke free from Bob’s grasp. She stumbled slightly.
“Let me go to somewhere I’ll be at peace. I’d rather die then live another day in this place. You took away everything from me, my will to be. My will to have children. My will to live. If you want me to beg you then fine! Kill me! I’m begging you!” she yelled as Bob reached for her but she moved away.
“Fucking kill me!” she shouted at Gerard who looked at her fiercely. He had the gun pointed and Lola just stared back, her fight no longer inside her. As the wind blew she started to turn blue slightly. Gerard kept his lock on her but slowly lowered the gun.
“Go.” he said quietly.
“What?” she asked him.
“Get out of here and don’t ever come back. As far as your concerned you were put to rest understood?” he warned. She nodded.
“Why?” she asked him and he looked at her.
“Just think of it of God finally collecting my soul.” he smiled as he looked down at her cold fragile body.
“I’m sorry.” he whispered and looked at her and then at Bob and gave a nod before getting back in his car and driving off without another word. Lola watched the Trans AM drive away in confusion. She sighed. Bob quickly pulled her up gently and carried her to his car.
“Are you okay?” he asked her and ran his hand through her hair.
“I’m fine.” she smiled and he kissed her head.
“I’m taking you home.” he told her and she nodded. He reached behind her and grabbed his coat he had left in there and placed it over her while she sniffled. He got into the driver’s seat and put his keys in the ignition before turning on the heater. He quickly pulled out of the parking lot and made his way back home. Lola felt her eyes close as they felt heavy and slightly burning. She smiled weakly before falling asleep while Bob’s free hand rubbed her side comfortingly. She was free…
~~
The faint noise of music made her eyes slowly open. She took a deep breath as she looked around her. The sky was a faint blue, so she knew the sun would be up soon. She looked to her left as Bob was focused on the road chewing his lip. The car came to a stop and she wondered where they were if she had been asleep for so long. Bob took the keys out of his ignition and smiled when he saw she was awake.
“Hey sweetie.” he said softly.
“Where are we?” she asked tiredly.
“We’re home.” he smiled once more as she sat up in slight pain. The surroundings were certainly not like Jersey.
“Chicago.” he stated as she looked at him confused. She nodded and he got out of the car and walked to her side. He opened the door and picked her up carefully and shut the door with his leg. She rested her head against his head as he walked to the front door of the house. Lola observed the average sized house as he opened the door. The walls were a beige color with several paintings on the wall. The furniture was modern style as he passed by the living room and into a bathroom. He set her down slowly on the toilet before standing up.
“Just a second.” he smiled at her and she nodded. He grabbed a pair of sweats and a shirt before going back to the bathroom and grabbing a first aid kit. Lola cringed, feeling her bandages become soaked slightly. He kneeled before her and slowly raised her gown of her body and dropped it to the floor. He winced when he saw her stomach wrapped in white. Dark purple bruises decorated her body. He cleaned her wounds and changed her bandages before sliding on the clothes. He closed his eyes in anger wishing he could find the man that did this and beat him to a bloody pulp.
“Are you tired?” he asked her and she nodded.
“Yes.” she replied and he nodded before picking her up again and carrying her to his bedroom and setting her down. Lola stood up tall and looked around the well maintained room and smiled softly as it reminded her of her old room when she was a child. Lola feeling the sense of security and realization she really was free, she broke down in tears and sobbed as Bob held her to his broad chest. Years of heart ache had been let go as Lola released all her bottled up emotions.
“You’re safe.” he whispered. “You’re with me now.” he told her as he rubbed her back. She looked up into his blue eyes and sniffled.
“I never said thank you.” she said as the pad of his thumb rubbed her still swollen cheek.
“You don’t have to.”
“Yes. Yes I do. You saved my life.” she smiled as he kissed her.
“Come on.” he smiled back and helped her lay down and wrapped the covers around her while she nestled into the warm soft comforter.
“Can I get you anything?” he asked and she shook her head.
“No thank you.” she smiled sweetly.
“Bob?” she said softly.
“Yes?”
“Will you lay with me?” she asked him and he grinned.
“Of course.” he smiled as he lifted back the covers and laid down next to her and wrapped his hands carefully around her not to hit her ribs. The sun had peaked slightly above the horizon and Lola had fallen asleep quickly feeling secured and safe from the dangers that once held her captive and the demons that rested in her soul…

“Can you walk okay?” Bob said concerned while Lola laughed as she used the rails of the porch to steady her balance. It had been a full month since Lola had been freed and she didn’t waste a single minute of her freedom. Her ribs had healed nicely under the care of Bob as he waited on her hand and foot, which Lola felt guilty of.
“Bob I’m fine.” she smiled as she reached the bottom step and let go of the rail and her bare feet stepped onto the spring grass. The sky was blue with no clouds to ruin the perfect day while the sun dropped in to say hello. She moved a couple steps on her own and turned back to Bob.
“See?” she smirked as he met her in the grass.
“Sure, sure.” he said sarcastically and she giggled. She had grown accustomed to Chicago where Bob knew the place like the back of his hand as he did live there most of his life, the house had once been his parents’. Lola had slowly rebuilt her life in the smallest and biggest ways.
“Rocco!” she called out and a puppy barked before running out the house and jumping into Bob’s arms.
“Hey there buddy.” he smiled and scratched his head before the puppy jumped down and ran straightforward to his chew toy. Bob wrapped his arms around her waist as she smiled.
“Ever saw a spring like this?” he asked and she shook her head.
“No, but it’s quite lovely.” she replied as he pulled her closer to him.
“Yes it is.” he exclaimed as he eyed the sundress she was wearing and she laughed.
“You are aware my eyes up here?” she asked and pointed to her face. He grinned and kissed her forehead.
“Do you still think about what’s happened?” he asked while she shrugged.
“Occasionally.” she answered. He nodded.
“But the bad dreams left me and now I’ve found purpose in this world.” she smiled and he smiled back.
“I love you Lola Minardi.” he whispered.
“I love you too Bob.” she whispered back and he ran his hand over cheek, her bruises long gone.
“Let’s go.” he grinned and grabbed hold of her hand as he walked her back inside the house. Lola still thought about the days at Crimson and Kimber had crossed her mind. But she also learned that forgiveness was something you had to do in order to move on in life. She had reasons to wake up in the morning, and Bob was the only thing that kept her going.
And even if life seems dull and meaningless, there’s always light. It can’t be dark forever. Lola smiled as Bob picked her up and set her on the counter while he grabbed two drinks. The events at Crimson were never mentioned and were now distant memories in a once dark past. Light now showed the way as Lola regained herself and became stronger after what happened.
And just like spring…she had blossomed…
