I should’ve went in but I didn’t have the nerve to ring her doorbell. I wasn’t even sure if her parents were home since they park in the garage and most of the lights were off inside. I drove back home and tried to run into the bathroom to throw up, but I just fucked up my ankle even more putting pressure on it like that. And I couldn’t even throw up. I had nothing to eat. So I just sat there a while, heaving and gagging on my tears.

This is what he was talking about? One more night? I lifted myself up and turned on the water in the sink, watching it swirl down the drain. He didn’t mean it for me, he meant for him… I felt myself starting to shake again and I shut the water quickly, it was making me dizzy.

But what the hell Gerard and Lia? He doesn’t even like her and she sure as hell doesn’t like him. And then it was like someone slapped me in the face. “Ray” I cried out and stumbled my way into Bobbi-Jos old room.

This was cause of Ray and his fucking ideas! That’s why Gerard and Lia hated each other cause Ray set them up. Well not set them up, but he set up Gerard to help him get rid of Lia. “God damn it.” I grumbled to myself searching my notes. I was beyond disgusted. Why in Gods name did Ray thinking having Gerard hitting on Lia would make her break up with him Ill never know. I guess he was just desperate for her to dump him cause God help the man who breaks Lias heart…

It was too late for me to do anything about it now. Gerard wouldn’t do anything with Lia… would he? “Argh” I cried out in frustration. I couldn’t do this anymore. I just needed something to settle myself down but one line turned into two and two into three and the next thing I know Im waking up in Bobbi-Jos old room sprawled out in a mess of papers, the sunlight blaring through the curtains at me.

Crap. I was so late for school. I should’ve just stayed home but like on autopilot I found myself getting dressed and making my way up the block. I got there just as the lunch bell rang. Ray and Gerard were coming out just as I was coming in.

“Hey I thought you were absent today?” Ray saw me first.

“Um no just late.” I responded keeping my eyes firmly on Gerard.

“Well come on we’ll go eat.” Ray says trying to spin me around to exit back out the school again.

“I don’t have my purse.” I protested and I didn’t. Not that it would’ve mattered, I had nothing in it anyway.

“My treat, lets go.” Ray forced me outside.

“Youre sure youre not sick, you don’t look so good.” Gerard tells me as he opened Rays car door for me. I tried not to smirk but this is great. Exactly the words I want to hear after finding out he was at Lias last night- you don’t look so good.

“Im just hungry.” I tell him and it was true. I was starving. I had no dinner last night. Gerard seemed satisfied with my response because he shut the door and got in the front seat himself now.

They were chit chatting about I don’t even know what kinda crap but it was clear neither one of them were going to bring up Lia, or what did or did not happen last night so I did.

“So who’s bright idea was this hmm?” I asked as we pulled into the deli’s parking lot.

“Lunch?” Ray chuckled. “It’s sort of mandatory.” He tells me and I sighed loudly.

“No not lunch Mr know it all.” I tried to keep my tone under control. “Lia.” I said and the name just hung there in the air for a second.

“What?” Gerard said quickly exchanging a glance with Ray.

“Did you not go to Lia’s last night?” I asked him and I could see the wave of panic now spread between him and Ray.

“She told you?’ He asked cautiously.

“No I live up the block from her remember.” I snapped at him as I opened up my car door. “I saw you there.” I tell him as I got out. Gerard gout out quickly too.

“Elle.” He called after me.

“No don’t Elle me.” I waved my finger menacingly at him. “Now who’s fucking idea was this.” I demanded from them both.

“Its not-” Ray tried to say and I turned my anger to him now.

“Its not what? Stupid? Cause it is.-it was. Shit Ray I thought you were smart.” I tell him and he tried not to smile. I don’t think anyone’s ever called him stupid before, certainly not me.

“You don’t understand.” He shook his head at me and I laughed sharply.

“No I understand.” I tell him. “You thought what? That if he goes over there and hits on her.” I gestured to Gerard. “That what shed break up with you? Ha.” I shook my head in disgust. “You fucking draw straws for Lia, what the hell.” I mumbled to myself.

“Wait, how did you know that?” Ray looked at me curiously and I realized I said too much.

“Didn’t Frankie tell you I’m psychic.” I tried to cover it up and Ray laughed.

“No such thing.” He says confidently and I shrugged.

“Well you don’t have to be a psychic to see this was ridiculous!” I began to carry on, waving my hand wildly at him. “What you think Lias got a conscience! I can say this cause I love her but she doesn’t.” I tell him and I could see Gerard trying not to smile out of the corner of my eye. “Shit Ray you think if you set her up to cheat on you she’s gonna feel guilty or something?“ I asked him and he shrugged. “-cause if that was true she would’ve dumped your ass a long time ago.” I added and Ray made a face at me.

“Lia cheated on me?” He asked and I bit my lip a little. “With who?” He demands and I lowered my eyes a little.

“Whatever I’m not doing this.” I tell him and he sighed loudly. “Look can we just eat please.” I ask him and Gerard agreed that was probably best since lunch was almost halfway over and all we’ve done was argue in the parking lot…

We went in and ate pretty much in silence. Gerard was looking at me like he wanted to say something but wasn’t going to in front of Ray. Towards the end Ray finally spoke up. He said he was sorry and all this crap. He asked me what thought he should do about Lia now too, since he was at the end of his rope with her.

I told him to just leave her be. That she’ll move on, she always does. That’s just how Lia is. Shes like a parasite. As long as you give- she’ll take. I told him to stop driving her places, stop buying her smokes, stop doing her ged classwork for her- cause he was… That once she sees she ain’t getting anything from him but love she’ll ditch him and find someone else to suck the life from.

And that’s really what shes been doing the last four years. Im not even sure if Lia is bi-sexual or not. It was like one day she realized she was limiting herself to only exploiting half the population by only dating men, so she started dating women too. From Crystals house she moved in with some dude she met in Atlantic City- that lasted all of about 3 months. Then she ditched him for one of his friends, and them him for his cousin, and then her for some guy in the navy. The last time I talked to her she was still traveling from navy base to navy base, making her way through the ranks… Seeing the world and never really spending a cent.

We drove back to school and I just wasn’t feeling well. Too much sugar always fucks me up and Ray bought me a soda. I drank it, well cause I had to. He treated me so I couldn’t really complain…

When we got out of the car, Gerard grabbed my arm and held me back as Ray headed in. “Elle you know nothing happened.” He tells me and my head was starting to pound now. I didn’t really want to continue to talk about this.

“whatever.” I sighed and he frowned a little.

“Are you pissed?” He asked me and I shook my head at him a little.

“Just at how stupid you are.” I tell him and I couldn’t help but smile as I said it.

“So can I come over then?” He pulled me near him and I laughed.

“Ha. You think Im gonna say yes?” I tried to keep my face as expressionless as possible. He studied it for a second.

“Yes.” He grinned looking in my eyes and I arched my eyebrow up at him.

“Oh yeah?” I sort of chuckled.

“Yeah.” He spun me around and wrapped his arms around me tightly burying his face in my neck as he spoke. “cause you want me and I want you. Its how it is remember?” He whispered my words to him that night back in my ear.

“Mmhmm.” I exhaled a little as he brushed his lips against my neck, kissing me slightly.

“Please…” he continued to nip at me “and mmm thank you.” He whispered and I laughed. “Come on.” He pulled back and nodded towards the door, the bell was ringing now.

“Oh no you know what Im not going in.” I resisted and he frowned.

“Why not?’ He asked and I started to step back from the school.

“I got a headache and I can’t… there’s only a few classes left anyway.” I tell him and he continued to frown.

“Elle you’re gonna get in trouble.” He tried to tell me and I brushed him off.

“No I’ll call them or something, I wasn’t here all morning. Ill just call out sick the whole day, its no big deal.” I pointed out to him and he sighed a little looking at me.

“You gonna walk home?” He gave me a disapproving stare.

“Yeah I just I’ll see you later.” I gave him a quick kiss and pushed him to go inside so he wasn’t later then he already was…

I made my way back down the block slowly since it was hard to smoke on crutches. I had to keep stopping to take a drag from it. When I got there I found Lia sitting on my porch, gripping my spare key tightly in her hand.

“Elle.” She cried out at me. “What time is your lunch?” She waved the key angrily at me and I scrunched my face a little. I don’t think we were suppose to meet her for lunch were we?

“Um its over. Did Ray tell you that we were coming here?” I asked her a bit confused and she rolled her eyes.

“Rays an ass.” She tells me and I couldn’t really argue with that.

“Well, what are you doing here then?” I asked her as she stood up.

“I came for Teddy, where is he? I looked all over.” She says and I felt my heart sink. Oh fuck… “Elle.” She lowered her voice down as she gave me a hard stare. She knew me too well. It was all over my face I suppose…

I guess it was time for me to tell her that Teddy took a little vacation…
