A week after she took the tests at the drugstore, Pen went to a free walk-in clinic to see a doctor. They asked too many questions, did tests that Pen perceived as pointless, and obviously looked down on her, but there was no mistaking that she was, indeed, pregnant.

“From the looks of it,” the doctor told her. “you’re about a month in. We can’t tell the gender just yet, since it’s not really developed. I advise you to be very careful; you’re most susceptible to miscarriage during the first trimester, so be cautious in your activities.”

She relayed all this new information to Mikey one day while eating. Pen had sliced up pickles and strawberries and mixed them together, eating them out of a bowl with a fork. “What?” she said at the look Mikey gave her.

“Are you actually eating that?”

“Don’t slam it ‘til you try it,” she said defensively, taking another mouthful. “It’s really good.”

“I’m sure. Did the doctor mention anything about weird cravings?”

“He did, but I haven’t really been experiencing any of that, I don’t think. Hey,” she said suddenly, looking up. “Do we have any cream?”

Mikey just laughed and shook his head. It had been another week since she’d gone to the doctor, and they were discussing what she would do during shows. “Are you gonna hang out backstage, or just stay on the bus? I think I’d feel more comfortable if you were backstage with other people, just in case something happens.”

“Like what?”

“I don’t know, but it’s better safe than sorry, right?”

The same day that Pen got her bracelet back, MCR was playing their first show in two weeks, after traveling across the country from the east coast to the west. She had kept the bracelet on, unable to bring herself to take it off.

It was ten minutes to show time, and the six friends were hanging out in the Green Room, trying to work off some nerves. There were more important people at this show, record people from all over the western part of the country. Tension was high.

“You guys will do amazing!” Pen assured them as they left to take their places on stage. She wished them luck and carefully sat back down on the couch. She had been taking the doctor’s advice to heart, and was even cutting off on hugging people, just in case. Suddenly, she was overcome with nausea and ran outside, emptying the contents of her stomach into a patch of grass outside the door. She walked a few feet away, leaning her forehead against the cool bricks and feeling the wind lift her hair off her face. She took some deep breaths, freezing as she heard someone approaching, and hoping they would just pass by without taking notice of her.

“Hey baby,” a greasy voice hissed in her ear. She shivered and turned around. “I think I got something you might like,” he purred.

“No thanks,” she said quietly, trying to sidestep him. He stepped with her, blocking her way out.

“I think you may want to rethink that. I can tell you want it. C’mon, it’s good stuff baby.”

“I said no thank you,” she said, trying to sound more confident than she felt. This man was a lot taller than her, and much more sturdily built. She tried to slap him to get him disoriented, but he caught her wrists fast in a vise-like grip and grinned. “You shouldn’t have done that…”

The show ended and all the guys ran off stage to relay to Pen how awesome it had gone. They had all played every note perfectly, and Gerard’s voice hadn’t broke once, not to mention how great the energy from the crowd was. But when they all made it back to the Green Room, Pen was nowhere to be found.

“Pen?” Gerard said, looking around.

“Come out, come out, Little Red, the show was awesome!”

“She’s probably puking her guts out,” Mikey said without thinking, and then started at the weird looks from the guys. “You know,” he faltered. “She’s--been…sick a lot lately…”

Everyone nodded. “She probably ran outside, then, since the bathroom’s all the way down the hall.” Bob said. “I’ll go look.” A step outside told him that she had indeed been out there, judging by the smell of throw-up. He shuddered. “Penelope?” he called, looking around. Looking to the right, he saw a commotion; it looked like someone was beating up someone else. A sinking feeling in Bob’s gut told him to investigate.

He ran when he was close enough to see the faces illuminated in the moonlight: a man had Penelope up against the wall, and he was punching her over and over again. Bob got up behind him and grabbed the stranger by the shoulder, spinning him around and delivering his first punch in years. Bob threw another, and another, and another punch to the man’s face. Recomposing himself somewhat, the man punched Bob back, catching him unawares and sending him stumbling backwards. Rather than follow Bob, the man turned back to Penelope, punching her repeatedly in the stomach, and kicking her when she slid to the ground.

Bob ran back and kicked the man’s knees out from under him, sending him to the ground with Penelope. Bob jumped on him, straddling his abdomen and delivering punch after punch to the man’s face. Suddenly, he felt hands on his shoulders, pulling him up from behind. He saw Mikey and Gerard go around and pick up the sagging stranger.

“Bob! Bob!” Ray yelled as Bob continued to try and get back to the man to continue. “Bob! Calm down! It’s okay! Mikey and Gerard have him, and they’re not letting him get away!” Upon hearing this, Bob threw Ray off and instead ran to Penelope.

“Penelope,” he murmured, picking up her lifeless form. “Penelope!” he yelled, shaking her. He put his hand in her hair and lifted her face to his, begging her to wake up. His breath caught in his throat and began coming out in sobs as her head fell limply back, her beautiful red hair dangling in the mud. “Penelope,” Bob lifted his hand and ran a finger down her face, tracing her jaw and down the bridge of her nose.

She didn’t respond.

Balls, I'm sorry I haven't uploaded sooner. This weekend I've been hella busy. Homework, parties, gift-shopping, hanging out with my friends, etc. Not to mention, I'm having young man troubles. Nothing serious, but I seriously thought I was over these stupid things. I always think that, actually, and then I end up falling for someone else completely wrong for me. I'm a dumb bitch, I guess. Oh wells. Sorry, rambling...But anyway...Dun, dun, DUUUUUUNNN! Cliff-hanger. Not telling what happens next until new chapter. Muahaha...OverAndOutxx
