My fists pounded on my steering wheel as I lashed out the last of my frustrations before I had to go meet Harper. I wiped the tear stained mascara tracks from my cheeks and fixed my make-up. I made my way down the street to Cassie’s and Harper was waiting outside. Her blonde hair swept to the side in neat waves and her arms were crossed over her slight frame. She smiled warmly when she saw me and I returned the smile the best I could. My day was already ruined and I couldn’t shake my bad mood.

As we entered the store the owner Ian Lee looked out from the back room to greet his customers. His face broke into a huge grin as he laid his eyes on me.

”Alexandra” He beamed pulling me into a hug “I’ve missed you! You haven’t been here in months!”

”Please Ian; you know its just Alex or Lex.” I smiled back at him.

”But Alexandra is such a beautiful name. I like the way it feels in my mouth”

”Sometimes I wonder were you ever dropped on your head as a child with some of the things you come out with Ian”

”What do I owe this pleasure my dear Alex” he semi bowed to me.

”Well, this is my friend Harper, we’re doing a new show together and she will be doing the swing set and fan dance”

”That’s a big number! First show?” I nodded to him. “It’s a REALLY big number so! But I think I have just the thing” He shuffled off into the back room again.

”Who is he?!” Harper whispered when he was out of earshot.

”You should know who he is! Mr. Lee is the best corset maker this hemisphere. Well he’s my best corset maker anyway.”

”That’s THE Mr.Lee?!” She gasped. “He’s like REALLY famous and it takes months for him to even consider making a corset for you let alone the time it takes to make one of his!”

”He’s a good friend of mine” I said simply.

”Harper? Can you come in here?” He called from the back room. When she didn’t move I gave her a little nudge with my shoulder. I could hear the rustling of fabrics as she changed into it and the sound of the laces being done up. When she exited the room even I gasped in shock. The corset was completely covered in different shades of pink crystals that fragmented the light into millions of tiny rainbows that glittered with every breath she took. There was a huge plume of pink feathers protruding from the back of it.

”Oh Ian its perfect.” I breathed moving towards Harper to get a closer look.

”And look” he motioned grabbing Harper by the hands and pulling them behind her back. “You clip this and these are your fans for the fan dance” he said with a flourish as Harper pulled the feathers from the back of the corset off and they opened out into large fans.

”I was making for you Alex and ye are the same size and she is doing the fan dance so it will be perfect for her.”

”It definitely is perfect Ian. Swarovski I’m assuming?” I asked running my hand over the crystals.

”Of course” Ian smiled. “Only the best for you my darling. Will I ring it up?”

”You will most definitely and have it sent over to my office for me will you?” Ian nodded to me as I steered an unresponsive Harper in the back to change out of the corset.

”Swarovski crystal?!” she hissed “Mr. Lee?! This corset is about $8,000!! I can’t afford this!”

”Your not. I am.” I said simply while unlacing the corset.

”You can’t do that. It’s too much. I’ll never be able to pay you back.” She cried shrugging her shirt back on.

”You don’t have to pay me back. It’s a gift.”

”It’s too much. I have to tell him not to ring it up” she shook her head moving to the door. I grabbed her by the arm and pulled her back.

”I want to do this for you. I have no-one else to spend my money on and I’m having a fucking terrible day and this will semi cheer me up so please let me do this.” I said sadly with tears threatening to take me over again. Harpers shocked eyes locked on my sad ones and I had to look away before she saw just how sad and lonely the charismatic and great Alexis Di Milo really was in real life. I forced a small smile before going back out into the shop.

”That’s done now Alex and I’ll have both chauffeured over later today” Ian smiled at me. My smiling public face was back on as I air kissed him on both cheeks.

”What would I do without you Ian” I smiled hugging him before saying my goodbyes and leaving.

”You drink?” I turned to Harper and she nodded back.

”I’m not 21 though”

”Neither am I. But it doesn’t matter when you know the people I do.” I grabbed her by the hand and led her to a cocktail bar down the street. I tried my best to be upbeat with Harper as we discussed the show and the rest of the costumes. After my third cocktail my mood was still terrible.
My phone buzzed loudly from my handbag and I took it out to read the incoming message.

I won’t be there when you get home. I think we both need a few days to sort out our heads. Don’t leave. Just give me a few days. I’m sorry x Joe

I subtly shielded my face as unwanted tears slipped from my eyes. I shut the phone and shoved it back into my handbag.

”What’s wrong Alex?” Harper asked quietly placing her hand over mine on the table.

”It’s nothing” I shook my head.

”It is something. I’ve been watching you when you think no-one is looking. Your extremely upset about something... Your not your usual self at all today”

”You don’t know my usual self. You only know Alexis Di Milo, the bitch teacher extraordinaire”

”I’m not talking about you when we’re training. You don’t let shit get you down. That day when the girls where bitching about you in our room you came in and it was like it didn’t even phase you. I mean you came in and just verbally kicked ass that day”

”I went back to my office and cried like a bitch when I left your dressing room.” I sniffed. “You have no idea what its like to be in my shoes. You might think it looks amazing but its not. Yeah I get paid a lot for basically taking my clothes off but money doesn’t matter to me. I would trade all my money in the world for a genuine friend. Not one who’s just my friend because I’m famous or because I have money. I’m only 20. Did you know that? I’m 20 and I don’t have a single person in my life that I could call a friend. I’m sorry for bringing you hear and dumping on you. I’ve just had a rough day.” I grabbed my handbag and went to get up. Harper grabbed me by the hand and pulled me back down.

”I would like to be your friend, not because your famous or have money but because I think we could genuinely be great friends for a very long time. Now, talk to me. Tell me your problems and we’ll see what we can do. That’s what friend are for” She smiled warmly at me and rubbed the back of my hand with her thumb.

I told her everything. I started from the beginning with Pete and him wanting to keep us a secret, to what happened with Andy, Alysia and Patrick, the miscarriage and then everything that happened this morning with Patrick and then Joe.

”And he just text me there and said he was going away for a while and for me not to leave” I finished an hour and a half after I started.

”Well… You certainly have had an interesting life” Harper nodded and I couldn’t help but laugh.

“You could say that alright. So what do you think I should do?”

”Nothing.”

”Nothing?! Are you shitting me?!”

”No, seriously. Think about it. Deep down, Joe wants the two of you to work but after everything that’s gone on with you and no offence, you being a bit of a slut and cheating on Patrick throughout your relationship with Pete and then Andy. Joe’s been there in the middle of it all along and he had to listen to shit about you from his three best friends that you were with at the same time. He’s just a bit wary of starting anything with you for fear of a repeat situation and having his friends go I told you so”

”I am a bit offended you called me a slut by the way” I sulked.

”It’s what real friends do. They’re brutally honest” She laughed.

”I don’t want friends anymore” I laughed too. It felt nice to laugh with someone again. “So how do you know Joe even wants this to work?”

”He asked you not to leave” she said simply popping a cocktail cherry in her mouth. I ordered more drinks.

”But I mean he could come back in a few days and realise that it was a mistake and then what do I do?”

”What do you want to do?”

”I want you to tell me what to do” I whined as the bartender placed our drinks in front of us.

”I want to know what you want to do”

”I want to stay and see what he has to say when he gets back”

”Then do that and decide what to do together.”

”But I hate him” I frowned sipping on my sixth cocktail and feeling the effects finally

”Right now you do but you’ll figure it out” she grinned. I nodded lightly for a few minutes.

”I think I’m slightly drunk” I mumbled stirring my drink and taking another sip.

”Me too, but that’s okay cause we’re having a girls night out!” I clinked my glass to hers and ordered another one.

This was the start of a beautiful friendship.
