Whats the point of lunch? Why can't we just finish school at 12:30 pm? Life would just be that little bit happier. Or maybe not.
"Hi, you mind if I sit here?"
I didn't bother looking up.
"Are you talking to me?"
Is he talking to me?
"Yeah. I'm Gerard."
I looked up now. Avoiding eye contact though.
"Cool. I'm Sarah. Hey are you new here?"
"Yeah. I moved here last week."
"I never would have guessed. Where'd you move to?"
"Whats wrong with being new? I don't remember the name, it's across from that foster home."
"It's not cause you're new it's cause of who you're talking to. Oh cool you live next to me so."
"That's cool. We should hang out some time."
Was I dreaming? I looked up at his face and he caught my eyes with his.
"Your eyes are am-, I mean what classes are you in?"
Shit.
"My eyes are wh-"
"Hey. New kid!"
Fuck, goodbye new friendship.
"Are they calling me?"
"Yep."
Robert was beside us now.
"Hey, I'm Robert, I see you've met the school freak."
"Excuse me?"
"What?"
"You called Sarah a freak. She isn't one and even if she was it Takes a freak to know a freak."
What? Huh? Did i hear that right?
"That was very stupid Gerard."
I couldn't believe someone had stood up for me, too bad his school life is gonna be ruined now.
"Why?"
Robert answered for me.
"Oh you're gonna find out newbie."
"You gonna make sure about that blondie?"
Gerard was making Robert even more pissed off. This isn't going to end well.
"You bet I am!"
"Come on so."
I could see Gerard smiling. He was enjoying this. Robert was about to swing for Gerard when the bell rang.
"Watch your back newbie."
"Ha, okay so."
Robert glared at me and then walked away.
I thanked Gerard, after telling him how stupid he was. We talked while we walked to Maths. We noticed that he was in most of my classes so we made plans to meet up in between.
"Hey, you wanna hang out after school?"
"Oh my God, really? You wanna hang out with me?"
I blurted out before thinking.
"I mean yea, I'd love to."
"Good."
We arranged to meet up at the gates after school. Gerard said he was going to show me something.
