Chapter Ten
“So what do you think of my friends?” Bob asked Amelia nervously.
They were walking down the street in town, in search for a good pizza place to have lunch at. They both wore a pair of heavy jeans, a sweater, and a jacket, a knit hat on Bob’s head.
“They were nice.” She said, trepidation in her voice.
Bob nodded. “Yeah, but they get better the longer you know them.” He assured her, suddenly reaching for her hand.
Amelia smiled up at him, exuberant. “You know, I never had many friends or boyfriends growing up.” She said thoughtfully, her tones playful and light. “Since my mom and dad had the twins so much later after the rest of us kids were born, and I was the youngest before them, I never really hung out a lot. I was kind of like Em and Elsa’s second mom in a way. Cause after they were about a year old my mom took extra shifts at the hospital and my dad already worked super crazy hours. I babysat them and cooked for them and when I finally started driving I took them to doctor’s appointments and anywhere else they needed to go.”
Bob listened carefully. He hated talking a lot, but he enjoyed listening. “Did you at least have fun with your twin sisters?” He asked, glancing at her and then quickly looking away again.
She nodded. “Yeah. I guess I was just never the type of girl to really be … hanging out with everyone all the time. Before me are my two older brothers, Kyle and Jordan. They’re only a few years older. But after me my parents thought they were done.” She laughed.
“Did your brothers ever take care of the twins like you did?” He asked curiously.
“Hm, not as much as me though. Jordan’s three years older than me, and Kyle’s a year older than him. So when Emily and Elsa were born Kyle was in college and so was Jordan. I was the only one still really there all the time. Kyle and Jay went to the same school so they rented a small townhouse with each other. They’d come home every now and then, but they were hard studiers and hard workers.” Amelia explained. “But it was fun. It kind of reminded me of playing house when I was younger.” She smiled sweetly.
Bob laughed. “Except they were real babies. And a real house.”
“Exactly.” She chirped, her voice as sweet and light as anything in heaven. “I always have to talk to my little sisters. They’re like my own daughters.” She said sadly.

“Well, another congratulations is in order, Meredith. You’re not having one baby. You’re having twins.” Dr. Wyatt smiled, her glasses sliding downward on her angled nose.
Jamia gasped and clapped her hands together. “Oh Mare this is great! There’s going to be two little Ways now!” She cried, throwing her arms around her friend and beaming happily.
Meredith, torn by both joy and uneasiness, began crying. They were happy tears fighting over sad tears. “Oh! Where are they?” She murmured, looking at the screen for her children.
Dr. Wyatt pointed to a blob-looking shape. “This is baby one, the first baby we saw when you came in for your first visit. This one over here will be good at playing hide and seek, see?” She said, pointing to an identical looking shape a smudge behind the other baby.”
“When will you be able to tell the sex of the babies?” Meredith asked curiously as they wiped the jelly off of her stomach and she cleaned herself up.
Dr. Wyatt washed her hands, her shoulders shrugging. “It depends, probably around nineteen weeks. Seventeen at the earliest. So make your appointment for at nineteen weeks if you would like to know the sex. Take care, Meredith, Jamia.”
Back in the car, Jamia was ecstatic as she started the engine and got Meredith buckled in, who was still in somewhat shock. “Oh Mare this is wonderful! Gee’s going to be so excited, as are the rest of the guys! They’re going to love having two Way babies on board in our huge family!” She babbled.
Oh god, Meredith thought to herself. Not only could one baby be Bob’s, but both could be his.
In the next minute Meredith had Jamia pull over on the side of the highway as she stumbled out of the SUV and threw up into the tall, dead grass.

“Twins! Holy shit, babe, that’s amazing! We’re gonna have twins! I wonder if they’ll be girls.” Gerard said, energy pumping through his voice as he bounced around their family room.
Meredith sat on the couch, feet curled underneath her as she flipped through their television. “Yeah, or maybe both a girl and a boy.” She smiled. But her smile wasn’t as bright as usual, it was a tad bit faded and she felt like a burnt out light bulb. She had to smile whenever she didn’t want to, even if she was feeling hot and overworked.
Damn, pregnancy was a bitch.
“We’ll have to ask Jamia is she can get another crib that matches that one. Do you think we should ask Christa to get more stuffed animals? They have to be able to split things equally.” Gerard babbled, his mind completely focused on the arrival of his children.
Mentally, she sighed. Yes, she was just as ecstatic about twins as Gerard was, but this gave her even more to be worried about. She would have to be more careful being pregnant with two babies. She would have to be worried that both of these babies being either Gerard’s or Bob’s.
And she was also scared. One baby? Though she had only been a few years older than her younger brother Joel, it had still been a lot to take care of him. She remember Ana and her mother trying to take care of Joel as a baby, he had been premature and there had always been so many problems. Dr. Wyatt had told her twins often came as premature babies, and now it would only be Gerard and Meredith taking care of them. And when Gerard would be touring, it would just be Meredith. How was she going to take care of two babies?
“We’re lucky the second guestroom is big, we can still fit two cribs and there should still be plenty of space to move around. Ma’s going to flip.” Gerard said, his smile lopsided and goofy.
Meredith felt her stomach drop.
