“Good. Now, come on.” I say before picking him up, bridal style, again, “You gonna close your eyes this time, or do you want to puke?”

“Let’s make him a vampire too.” Frank smiles.

“Huh?” Gerard says, cocking his head to the side.

“Wait, what?!” I cry, “Frank, what the shit?!”

“Think about it, Mikes.” he tells me, “He can change, and he’ll be able to come with us. You guys won’t have to leave each other, after all.”

“W-What? Are you crazy?!” Gerard exclaims.

“Gerard, stop it.” I tell him, sternly.

“You know I have a point.” Frank says, and I know he’s right. He knows I know he’s right. His smirk says it all.

“I-I…G-Gerard can’t just leave home too! Mom and dad are gonna-”

“I'm not actually saying I'd mind leaving.” Gerard cuts me off.

I frown at him, “You wouldn’t?”

He shakes his head, “I don’t want-…I-I can’t live there anymore.”

It takes a moment before something clicks in my head, “…Is it dad?”

“How did you know?” Gerard asks, quietly.

“When you passed out, h-he, uh…We saw him…” I mumble, rubbing the back of my neck.

“What did you see?” He asks, with curious eyes.

Looking at my feet, I whisper, “We…We saw him punch you…pretty hard…in the face.”

“While I was unconscious?!” Gerard suddenly cries, “Fuck him!”

“Gee,” I say, frowning in concern, “Has it happened before?”

He slowly nods, and I feel mortified at how much our father has changed, “Y-Yeah…You remember that time I came to visit? And the bruise that I had?”

“Oh, my god…” I breathe.

“Yeah, I didn’t walk into a wall.”

“Shit, Gerard!” I cry, “H-How could he?!”

“I-I told you he changed, Mikey.” He says, kicking some dirt.

“Didn’t you tell anyone?” Frank asks, stepping forward slightly.

“Obviously not.” Gerard snaps.

“Well, w-why didn’t you tell me?” I ask, hurt at him breaking our promise to tell each other everything.

“You were in the clinic, Mikes,” Gerard explains, “I was worried about you, like, all the time. I wasn’t about to drop a bombshell like that while you were in there. I didn’t want to freak you out or anything.”

“I would’ve preferred it, if you did.” I mumble.

“Well, it’s too late now!” Gerard snaps.

We all fall into an awkward silence. Gerard stares at his feet, while I stare at mine. I feel Frank come up and wrap his arms around me again. That’s all I really need, right now. This and some time to think for a second. I’m still uncertain as to whether Gerard believes us or not. I sigh and lean into Frank a little, trying to clear my head.

After a few minutes of silence, Frank breaks it, “Look, we could change you, Gerard, and you could come with us. You could leave all of this behind, and all of us can start over.”

I meet Gerard’s eyes as he responds, “You know what? I will completely one-hundred percent believe you, if you change me.”

“Gerard, no.” I tell him.

“Why not?” Frank asks.

“I’m not going to let him go through any pain like that,” I try to whisper so only Frank can hear me, but Gerard still hears me.

“Mikey, I don’t care how much it hurts.” Gerard pleads to me, “Please listen to me. I need to get out of there. I physically cannot be there anymore. Dad…y-you wouldn’t believe the things he’s done. He’s totally lost it, and mom won’t do a thing. She’s just turned into an empty, bitch. She’s shut down and dad’s gone totally nuts. He almost pulled a knife on me, for fuck sake.”

“He what?!” I gasp.

“Yeah, you see? I need to get out of there, Mikey. Please. I can’t stand another day.” Gerard tells me. I hear his voice breaking and see the tears forming in his eyes.

I move forward and pull him into another hug, “Fuck, Gerard. If I was there, I would’ve killed him…I’m sorry. It’s all my fault.”

“No, Mikey. Don’t start apologizing for this. If they were even slightly decent parents, they would’ve stuck it out through everything.”

“But they wouldn’t of had to stick it out if I hadn’t fucked everything up in the first place!” I cry.

“Look, it’s over now…At least, it can be. If you change me.”

I sigh in response, burying my head further into his shoulder.

“Please…” Gerard whispers.

“Fine,” I give in, “Fine, fine, fine.”

“Yes!” My brother cries, picking me up and spinning me in a circle, “Thank you, Mikey!”

“It’s okay, it’s okay, put me down!” I cry before he lets me go, “We’ll do it, but not right now, okay? You’ll have to wait.”

“What? Why?” Gerard whines, “Why can’t we leave now?”

I roll my eyes are his attitude. He can be such a baby sometimes, “Before we leave, you’re going to stay home for another day or two. That way, you can grab the shit we need like clothes, money, toothpaste. Whatever.”

“What about food?” Gerard asks, with a tilt of his head.

“Err…” I mumble, turning to Frank and mentally asking him to explain this part.

“Oh! Right,” Frank snaps out of whatever daze he was in, “We don’t really need food…Or blood for that matter. It’s like smoking, kind of. We’ll crave it really badly, but it won’t kill us, if we don’t have it.”

“That make sense?” I ask Gerard.

He nods, “Okay. So, I go back. Now what?”

“Just discreetly pack everything and I’ll let you know when we’re leaving for good.”

“Then where do we go?” Gerard asks me.

“I have no fucking idea.”

“Brilliant.”

“Look, we’ll figure something out, okay?” Frank cuts in.

“Yeah,” I agree, “Hopefully, we can get a good place to stay because, I dunno about you, but I’m not that keen on spending forever in a cave.”

“Forever?” Gerard asks, “Cave? Mikey, what-”

“Questions are for later!” I cut him off, with a weird grin, “Right now, we’re taking you back home.” Gerard whines in protest, but I smack round the side of the head, “Swallow some cement and harden up. It’ll only be a day or two. Remember, pack everything discreetly, don’t tell mom or dad about anything and for gods sake don’t pack unnecessary crap like your toy light saber.”

“Hey!” Gerard cries, “That light saber has been mine since I was ten. It’s the coolest thing ever.”

“I understand, Gerard, but now isn’t the time to play around with childhood toys.” I remind him.

“Fine.” He says with a roll of his eyes.

“Good. Now, come on.” I say before picking him up, bridal style, again, “You gonna close your eyes this time, or do you want to puke?”

“Fine, I’ll close my freaking eyes! Geeze.”

“Thank you…Frank, I’ll be back in a minute.”

“I’ll meet you at the cave?” Frank asks.

“Yeah.” I smile.

“What the hell is this cave-”

“Shut up and hold on, Gerard.” I snap, before speeding off towards what will soon be the place we used to live.
