Brendon paced outside the Intensive Care Unit, chewing a hole in his lower lip, hands twisting nervously behind his back. He gulped, wishing someone would come out and tell him something. Margot’s parents had been allowed in to see her, but since Brendon was not related, he’d been asked to wait outside. And so he did, and so he waited, and so he worried. He was so consumed in his own thoughts that he didn’t even notice a large calamity in the lobby until he heard Margot’s name, and recognized the voice shouting it.

“Where’s my girlfriend!” The voice rang through the otherwise quiet lobby, making all the waiting patients, nurses, orderlies, candy-stripers, and doctors look up. “Where’s Margot? Can’t see her, my ass!” He came storming into the waiting area, catching sight of Brendon, his cheeks flaming up red and fury rising in his eyes. “You shit! What the fuck did you do to her? What did you do? This is all your fucking fault!” Spencer approached Brendon, jabbing his finger into the man’s chest before pushing him roughly.

“Hey, what the fuck!” Brendon pushed back, noting that Spencer’s eyes were red, and it looked like he’d been crying. “I didn’t do anything! Calm the fuck down!”

“You fucking did something, Urie!” Spencer accused, getting as close to Brendon as possible, their faces almost touching. “Margot’s not stupid! She doesn’t just wander into the path of a speeding car for no good reason!”

“Maybe she did it because she knew she’d be going back to you, asshole! You’re a terrible boyfriend, and a horrible person in general. I can’t fucking believe you ever got a girl like Margot, and now look what’s happened!”

“You little shit!” Spencer lunged, shoving Brendon so hard that he almost fell. He caught himself, though, and jumped on the opposing man. They tumbled to the ground, two men having it out to get out their stress and worry.

Two male orderlies came over and pulled them off each other, struggling to hold the enraged men away from combating.

“Gentlemen, gentlemen!” A man that Brendon recognized to be Margot’s doctor walked in, seeing the two scraggly men, still clawing to get at each other. “Please,” he added, nodding to the orderlies, who shrugged and dropped the men. They glared at each other, but were more worried about why Margot’s doctor was out, wanting to know what was going on.

“What’s going on? How is Margot? Is she going to be okay? Is she…?” Brendon gulped, eyes wide, pleading with the doctor to give him good news.

“Your girlfriend seems to be--”

“She’s my girlfriend,” Spencer butted in, glaring at Brendon for a split second before looking back at the doctor.

“Well…” said the doctor, looking affronted. “Ms. Miner is in stable condition, and she should be waking up soon. Probably in an hour or two. We’ll move her to the injuries ward, keep an eye on her, and notify you of any--”

“Wait, I want to stay with her,” Brendon interrupted.

“No, I’ll stay with her,” Spencer said, following the doctor. “Can you tell me which room she’ll be moved to?”

“Room 507,” he said, walking away before another fight broke out.
