Chapter One
I had been tortured all my life. I’ve never known what it felt like to be loved. Well, that was before the Order showed up at their secret place. Everyone fled, completely forgetting about me. I was happy that they had gone, but I was scared about how the Order would treat me. But they treated me well, sometimes they would simply raise their hand or make a small gesture and I would either wince or cringe completely. I would never tell them or even the Great Dumbledore what Voldemort and all his followers had done to me. Once they tried to get Snape to read my mind, but I had controlled my mind to the point where I barely had to concentrate on what I was doing.
“That’s how your mind should be Harry.” He simply said and walked away.
One night Harry came to me. Everyone else in the house had gone to bed. I was sitting in front of the fire I had started and let it burn the tips of my fingers.
“Unity?” he asked me. We sat in silence for awhile and then Harry pulled my hands out of the fire.
“Yes?” I asked him.
“I was wondering if you could help me shield my mind.”
I stared at him. He stared right back at me waiting for an answer. He was still holding my hands that were giving off a slight glow from the fire’s light.
“Well. Uhm. You see Harry,” I said and took my hands out of his, “I’m not exactly sure how I would teach you the only way I know how is to…” I became silent and the fire went out. Harry stared at me, concern written plainly on his face. I wanted so badly to know what he was thinking, but decided it was better if I left it un-read.
After an eternity of silence Harry spoke up, “Please, I need your help.”
I sighed, “I guess, but not tonight.”
He nodded his head understandingly. We sat in silence once more, as I relit the fire. I didn’t own a wand, no, but I didn’t need one for the spells I used. You see from what I knew about my parents, they possessed a magic that Voldemort wanted, but could not get. My parents were purebloods, didn’t need wands, and were both seers. Voldemort thinking that their only child would possess the one gift he wanted killed them instead of trying to get what he wanted from them. Later, however, I soon heard that they wouldn’t help him out and so he killed them. For three years he kept food care of me, until I turned five and still showed no sign of the great gift.
“Are you excited for Hogwarts?” Harry asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
I nodded my head, “A bit nervous though. I mean, I’ve never been to a school before.”
“That’s perfectly normal. Just remember, if you need anything Hermione, Ginny, Ron and I…even the twins are here to help you out.” He told me.
“Thank you Harry.” I said and gave him a kiss on the cheek before I made my way upstairs to my bed. It took me forever before I was finally able to sleep and when I did I had a dreamless sleep. I awoke in the morning to Hermione gently shaking me to tell me that breakfast was ready and we were leaving for Hogwarts soon.
