I ran as fast as I could, trying so hard to escape what I feared the most. Him. He chased me through the darkened woods. Or maybe a forest, it didn't matter, I just wanted away from him, I grew closer and I felt him grab my arm when he suddenly it was like he wasn't after me anymore. He was looking in my eyes, and said "Get out of here, now just don't look back" He urged me forward. I ran like he said but when someone says don't look back then you have to look back. I wish I didn't, I saw my moms dead and lifeless body, tears fell from my face, I ran over to her trying to see if there was any way to get her alive again. "I told you to run, it's not safe here, get out of here please" He screamed at me, "I can't leave here here alone" I cried. He grabbed me and ran. THEN BAM!
I woke up with a jolt, sweat covered my body, shit was all I could think. That dream was very intense. Oh well, time to go and show that asshole what I'm made of.
I walked to school as quickly as I could. Fuck I need a car, my birthday is coming up soonish, mother will be informed that I need a set of wheels. I walked through the front gates when the head bitch, Lisa walked up to me and said "Hey loser, what did you do to your hair? I mean I thought you would wanna blend in so people like us didn't need to look at you?" She laughed and her little minions followed suit. "Oh you noticed? Thanks I really like it too, So Lisa how many of the football team have you fucked now? would that be all of them, I hear your shit at it" I smiled. Girls like her take pride in their sexual encounters, I know what she's like. I was walking to my locker when I seen him. He looked my way and when he realised my hair had changed his jaw dropped. He stared at me, and when I walked by him I laughed. "Hayley, wait up, wow nice hair" Mikey said breathlessly. "Oh hey Mikey, thanks, It's a good change I think. How are you" I smiled. "I'm good, want me to walk you to your art room?" He smiled. "Sure, hey did you talk to your brother" I asked not trying to sound too interested. I grabbed a few books from my locker and then shut it before we started walking to my art class. "Yeah actually, I wanted to know what happened, he said he would give you chance but if you fucked it up don't be surprised when he takes a mad attack on ya" Mikey sighed. Right okay then, was all I could think. The bell suddenly rang and Mikey said goodbye, I decided I was gonna walk up the hallway and wait until he was in the class, I wanted him to see me enter.
When I walked in the room he looked at me again. I smiled at him and he quickly looked away, yeah I thought so asshole. I sat down and started the lessons work. I was just drawing away when I heard him say "Nice hair, really bright" What now he's talking to me? "Ugh thanks" I smiled but he didn't see it as he was already looking at his work. Something is wrong with this boy. He never said anything else to me throughout the lesson.
I decided at lunch I was gonna find Mikey and sit with his friends. It didn't take long to spot them. I walked over and Mikey stood up and got me a seat next to him. "Hayley, I'd like to introduce you to.." He started. "No I wanna see if I can guess" I laughed. "Your Ray" I said pointing to the guy with the afro. "Your Bob" I pointed to the guy with blonde hair. "And your Frankie" I smiled. Their jaws all dropped at this. "How did you do that?" Frank said. "Oh well you look like a Frank, Bob really looks like a Bob and Ray, your just a lucky guess" I Smiled. They all started talking about silly things and I tried to join in, but Gerard kept looking at me, and it was putting me off a bit. I didn't wanna look like I was staring but I then realised I was staring. I tried to look away but whenever I did, it felt like her was looking at me.
"So Hayley, why did your parents pick the awesome state of New Jersey" Gerard smirked, "I mean this is like the worst place for crime, theres more rapes and teen pregnancies been reported in the last ten years than ever in the whole history of New Jersey, couldn't they pick somewhere better" He laughed. "Oh my parents aren't together anymore, my father is a deadbeat alcoholic asshole, he used to beat my mom, and finally got the guts to leave him after he beat me up. She re-married and had another daughter, it was all fun for me, until I found him in bed with his ex-girlfriend. I was scarred for life man, that is just something your not meant to see, I hated him anyways, he thought he could control me, no fucking way dude. So mother wanted a change. We decided here would be good, I'm not sure tbh. No one seems to care here, It's like a dead town where everyone has given up. No one seems like they want to get out of here and make something of their life. No, I don't know if I can stand it here for my whole life" I sighed "How do you guys cope?" I asked anyone. "It's good if you have friends" Bob smiled, "And now you have us Hayley" Mikey said with a small smile. Gerard looked like he was thinking a lot, maybe what I said had finally gotten through to him that I wasn't an idiot and wasn't going to hurt his little brother.
"So what do you guys do around here for fun?" I asked breaking the awkward silence. "Well, baby there's me" Frank said with a wink. I laughed "tell me a time and place, I'll be there" I replied, "My party, Saturday night, be there" He flirted. "Sure, That would be cool actually" I smiled. I looked over to Gerard, his face looked so pissed off, maybe he doesn't want me going to the party, like I'll ruin it. Well fuck him.
"Hey, guys you wanna come to mine tonight to watch a movie?" Ray asked everyone, I didn't think it was directed at me at all. "I know it's short notice but it could help us get to know Hayley a little bit more. You can pick the movie too" He smiled to me. "Sure, as long as I can hitch a ride home with one of you guys?" I asked everyone. "Well, Mikey's staying at mine and Frank are staying at mine, Bob lives round the corner, Gerard can give you a ride seen as it's the same area he lives in" Ray stated. "How do you know we live in the same area?" I asked confused, "Mikey" Was all he said. I looked at Mikey, he had such an innocent face on. "So Gerard, is that okay?" Ray asked again. "Is what okay?" He said looking confused, "Is it okay if you give Hayley a ride home tonight" Ray asked again. "Ugh, sure, hey Ray I wont be over until half 6 if thats cool" Gerard said, "Sure dude" Ray laughed. "I gotta go use the bathroom" I said, "See ya later guys" I said before leaving. Goodbyes were thrown at me, and I waved goodbye, I looked at Gerard quickly before I left. He looked almost disappointed. Maybe he really didn't want me going to Ray's tonight, and he must really not want to give me a lift home.
I ran home and changed after school finished. Thank goodness it was all over. Mikey text me saying I should meet him at his house and we would walk to Ray's. I had an hour to get ready.
When I met Mikey, we walked in silence for the first few minutes. "Hey, Gerard looked a bit annoyed when we were talking about going to Frank's party and going to Ray's tonight, did he say anything to you?" I asked curiously. "Ugh, no. Don't look too much into it, my brother is really weird like that. It's nothing personal" He smiled. "Okay, well you know he did say my hair was nice. I was utterly shocked that he would even look in my direction" I sighed. "Hayley, he's been through a lot, that's why I'm saying don't take it too personally. He just doesn't mean any harm" He said looking at the ground. "Okay Mike, I'll be nice and see how it goes" I was trying to reason with him. "Thanks, I just think he needs someone to BRIGHTEN up his life, you can see it's really dull" He said saying the word brighten more strongly than the other word in the sentence. What does that mean? Is that something to do with me annoying his brother and he need to find someone to make him happy and forget me.
We got to Ray's house and everyone was there except Gerard. "So Hayley, which movie you wanna watch. Come look" Ray asked. "Oh shit, you have 'The Lost Boys' I haven't seen that movie in so long, can we watch that?" I asked getting excited. "Sure, good choice, well done Mikey you found a good one" Ray said laughing. "Mikey chose a good what?" Gerard said entering the room.
"Oh Hayley chose to watch 'The Lost Boys', I was just saying Mikey found a good one, Hayley's pretty awesome" Ray smiled. "Aww, Ray don't go all sweet on my ass" I said playfully.

Something wasn't normal about him, he looked and was acting so happy like. "So guys, why did we until now, to bring Hayley into the group? She's been all alone for a few weeks and we didn't even notice. Well don't worry we got your back now, and I heard you stood up to the queen bitch of all whores. I guess everyone just shook it off, the movie started. He just nodded and followed me out to Ray's back garden.
"What do you wanna talk about?" He asked, "Oh you were just acting a little strange earlier, is everything okay?" I asked, he moved closer to me, and I stepped back, "I'm fine, what's wrong, didn't you like it, you seemed to love Frankie flirting with you at lunch" He grinned. "I don't get what your saying exactly? please explain" I asked. He got closer again, "Isn't this what you want, me to like you, be friends with you, put on a smile and say fuck it, she's a nice girl. "No, I was just scared, I thought you were beautiful, like everything about you, and then I thought of Lisa, It made me hurt, like it was all gonna happen again. I felt strongly about her, and she broke my heart, if I let you into Mikey's life, then you would find your way into me, and I didn't wanna risk it. I'm sorry" He sounded so hurt. "I'm nothing like that, I've never had a boyfriend before so I don't even know how to break someones heart or any that bullshit" I said looking at my shoes. "Why do you think that" He asked, "Well after my moms two failed relationships, I didn't see any reason to try, she tried to hard and look where it got her, 2 children and 2 divorces. So if I'm meant to find love, then it will come and get me" I stated. There was a silence.
"Hayley, one day you will find it, and you wont even notice it. If you don't then we are all doomed" He smiled. "Thanks, you know your not half bad when you give people a chance" I sighed, "Maybe, I really thought about it and saw, that I have nothing to loose" He sounded so cold. "We should get back inside, it's getting cold" I said quickly. He nodded. Nothing much else happened, just usual talking like normal teenagers.
The car ride home was silent, I couldn't think of anything to say to him.I searched and couldn't find anything, I wanted too. When he got to my house I thanked him and he didn't say much. Just that he'd see me tomorrow and goodbye. It was better than him hating me was all I could think.
That night I couldn't stop thinking about the events of the evening, words that he said to me. They were so cold and harsh, but not even directed at me which surprised me much more than the thing he said. 'nothing to loose'? seriously, he sounded like he doesn't care about his life, when people say what's there to loose? they don't care about much do they? Well that's how I feel, and right now, I'm scared he might do something a little bit harsh, to himself. I decided I needed some sleep.
I was just drifting away into a sleep when my phone started buzzing.
It was a strange number, one that I didn't have in my phone book.

That night was the first night since I moved here that I slept so easily and happily.
