Basically it's about a slightly neurotic girl who meets some pretty weird people, but are they just weird? Or is there something else?

The sound rang through my ears and cold sweat seemed to gather on my face. ALex's arms tightened around me as our heads whipped towards the narrow entrance in which we entered the secret place. We tip toed towards the far wall and watched in silence.

What if I get shot? Who is it?!

Thoughts buzzed around inside my head as we waited to see if anyone approached.

Nothing.

I squeezed Alex's hand for reassurance and he looked down at me in torment. I'm pretty sure my expression was equal to his perfectly.

The tension seemed to melt ever so slightly and I was about to lift my foot to take a step forward when a deep, gruff voice shouted, "Tell me where he is!!!" I heard a youngish girl start crying and stammer, "I don't know who he is!" Her voice was heavily laced with terror and panic.

My heartbeat quickened and I think Alex noticed as he edged himself infront of me, blocking me from potential danger. My heart responded by fluttering in gratitude and admiration for his protection.

The sobbing stopped and I heard gasping.

I closed my eyes as tears sprung to them.

"I'm only going to ask you once more! Tell me who he is, I know what you are!" His voice sent shivers down my spine.

Alex turned andkissed my forehead as he whispered in my ear, "I love you" then continued forwards towards the sickening shouting.

I lunged forwards and made a grab for his hand but he was one step ahead and side stepped, just out of my grasp. He looked back, as he reached the entrance, with pleading eyes...

And then he was gone.

I chewed nervously on my lip, trying to concentrate on the pain in my lip and away from my ringing ears and aching heart. I tired to block out yet more gun shots and the screaming. It terrorised and tourmented me to the core.

I leant against the hard stone wall and slid to the ground, leaning forwards. I rested my forehead on my knees and took in deep, shaking breaths. I pressed my hands tightly over my ears and rocked myself gently. Tears bit at my eyes and rolled down my cheeks freely.

I couldn't take the agony and shot to my feet and rounded peeped my head around the corner.

I saw a female figure curled up on the littered pavement, her deep brown shoulder length hair covereing her face. She didn't look like she was breathing.

My eyes locked on Alex, crounched over her limp body. The guns man nowhere to be seen.

I ran out and fell to my knees beside him.

He reached one hand out to cradle me against him and the over one rested on the girl's wrist to check her breathing. He caressed my cheek with his thumb, sending shivers down my spine.

"She's alive; Barely." He spoke just above a whisper into the icy air. He delicately placed my fingers on her frozen wrist and I could feel a slow pulse, clinging on for life.

"Will she make it?" I whispered, feeling more tears fall down my cheeks. I brushed her hair from her face and her face was growing paler, her full lips parted slightly.

"I hope so. She was shot in the stomach and is losing blood; Fast."

He scooped her into his arms and she let out a small groan and her eyes flickered then closed once again.

I was already dialling 999.

The next few hours passed in a blur and Alex dropped me at home whilst the girl was in surgery.

I slept little that night and kept my phone close to my side at all times. My dreams were grey; discoloured and the edges blurred...
