BABETTE

Today was the day, or it was supposed to be anyway. We were stopped in New Jersey to visit the families and friends. Gerard and I were extremely bummed out about the whole new string of European tours. Today was supposed to be our big day, our wedding day, but that wasn’t going to be happening for a very long time now…

“I think you should move back in with me and Ben while the boys tour. That way we can both plan every single little detail of the wedding. Y’know, maybe make it a bit bigger, more extravagant.” Elodie said as we sat on the couch, watching Ben play with his toy trucks. He would be six year sold soon. It was very strange to think that Gerard and I dated that long…

“I just might have to. Its so weird, being back here…” My voice trailed off. I was sitting in my old apartment in New York, where Ellie and Ben had moved in together after our mom passed away. I reflected on all the memories, almost cringing because some where so painful.

“I know right! Everyday its like blast from the past. But this is the only place I really wanna raise Benny. I mean, he was born here.” Elodie said, looking around with me. I glanced at the kitchen and remembered the quickie Gerard had on the counter so long ago. Elodie still didn’t know about it and it was probably best if she didn’t. And we were sitting in the living room where Gerard had broken up with me that fateful night before he flew half way around the world to Japan. It was odd to think he would be returning there in half a years time.

“So what do you say? We can fix up all the final details for the wedding to pass the time.” Elodie offered, picking up Ben and setting him on her knee. I frowned heavily.

“That’s just it, all the details are already finished. Today was supposed to be the biggest day of my life, now I have to wait a least a year. Who knows, it may even be longer than that.” I pouted. Elodie put her hand on mine sympathetically. It was crazy how much she’d grown up in the past five years.

“I know sis, I’m sorry. Things will themselves out, don’t worry.” She promised. I scoffed slightly.

“That’s all Gerard every says now.” I mumbled bitterly. Elodie frowned and then took Ben to the bathroom for a bath before he went to bed.

“Hey Babes, I’m here.” Gerard said, walking through the front door. I smiled at him as best as I could despite being so sad about today.

“Hey sweetie.” I said kissing him on the cheek. “Elodie and Ben are in the bathroom.” I told him before he could ask. He nodded and sat down. He was breathing heavy I and I could tell he run up the stairs to get here instead of taking the elevator in a way to be more healthy.

I leaned back on the sofa and ran my fingers through hi super short, bombshell blonde hair and smiled to myself. The last time we had sat on this couch he had long greasy tendrils of inky black hair. So much had changed since then.

“You look tired.” he said quietly. I yawned loudly.

“I am tired.” I said, laying back across the whole couch, taking Gerard with me. We adjusted ourselves to that he was lying between my legs with his head on my chest. I yawned again and kissed the top of his head.

“I’m sorry about the wedding baby. I know how much you were looking forward to it. How much we were looking forward to it…” he said with a small sigh. I shrugged. I didn’t want him to know how upset I actually was about it. He had enough to worry about with the tour and all.

“Like you said, we’ll figure something out.” I quoted him.

“Come what may, I will love you until my dying day…” he sang softly under his breath. Our wedding song. My heart skipped a beat at the soft tenderness of his voice and I kissed his head again.

“I wish I could sing like you.” I said with a small laugh. I could sing if I really tired hard enough, but for Gerard it just seemed so effortlessly perfect.

“And I wish I could give kisses like you.” he said, looking up at me. I blushed and craned my neck to give him a peck on the lips.

“What do you mean? My kisses are average.” I said, furrowing my eyebrows.

“As if! Your kisses are like, the sweetest fucking thing on this earth. They the best part is I’m the only one who gets to receive them.” He said, pushing forward to kiss me passionately.

“But your kisses are steamy and sexy.” I argued. He laughed loudly at this.

“Your body is steamy and sexy, not my kisses.” he fired back jokingly. I felt my cheeks burn and I laughed with him. No man had ever made me blush and laugh the way Gerard could, nobody.

“Look who’s talking mister muscles!” I said exasperatedly. Gerard roared with laughter, his lovely crazy-person laugh.

“Puh-lease!” he scoffed. I raised my eyebrows.

“Ooh, somebody’s feeling pretty sassy tonight.” I said with a smirk.

“You know it! When am I not feeling sassy?” he asked, making me shake with laughter.

“You are truly the sass-master Gerard.” I said once my laughter had died down enough to where I could talk again. Gerard nestled up against me and I watched him shut his eyes and take a deep breath. I did the same.

“I love you more than anything.” he said sleepily without opening his eyes. I watched him for a while as he fell asleep in my arms. I traced over his lips and ran my finger down his nose before kissing his forehead and going to sleep myself.
