It was like the first day Frank had been taken in, they had sat in waiting room for hours, waiting to see if he'd pull though. Five hours and two blood transfusions later, the doctors told the kids he was stable. For now.
The only thing different was the fact that this time, Charlotte was no where to be seen. They'd looked for her, but to no avail.
The first time they had sat here, they, had sat in a group talking quietly between themselves, all hiding their panic, all of them apart from Charlotte, who spent the whole time staring at the door which Frank lay, lifelessly, behind. It killed her knowing he was only a few feet away and she couldn't get to him.
Now there was an uneasy tension in the air that filled the whole room. If Charlotte was here, they would of found it easier because, it seemed to hit her the hardest, with Frank being her best friends and all but she would be putting on a brave face, because she was never one to show emotions. By putting on a brave face, it made the others feel braver. Now she wasn't here being brave and it left the others broken and scare.
They all sat silently. None of them willing to break the awkward silence. It wasn’t until the silence came all to much to bare that they all heard Gerard singing lightly. They’d be lying if they said hw didn’t have an amazing talent.
“When your sparkle evades your soul, I’ll be at your side to console.
When your standing, on the window ledge, I’ll talk you back, back from the edge.
I will turn, I’ll turn your tide, be your shepard, I swear be your guide.
When your lost in your deep and darkest place around, may my words walk you home safe and sound.” Gerard stopped when he noticed they were all staring at him and listening to him sing. He ducked his head and tried to hide as best he could. What he didn’t expect was Mikey to carry on where he left off.
“When you say that I'm no good and you feel like walking
I need to make sure you know thats just the Prescription talking
When your feet decide to walk you on the wayward side
Up upon the stairs and down the downward slide” It was the younger Way brothers turn to blush now as he realized he’d carried on, Claud smiled and him and continued softly.
“I will, I will turn your tide
Do all that I can to heal you inside
I'll be the angel on your shoulder
My name is Geraldine, I'm your social worker” they all smiled softly, having had their thoughts taken of Frank, even if it was only for a brief minute.
They were all brought back to the here and now by Charlotte stepping back into the room, her eyes were raw red and still had tears streaming out, even though she was desperately trying to stem them. They all stared at her in shock. Charlotte hated emotions. Any form or show of any emotion made her cringe. She parted her lips, as if about to speak, before closing them again. It was like a stare face off. When she finally did speak, every one let out a small gasp at the sound of her voice. A voice so normally full of life and happy was deflated and broken.
“I just saw the doctor who was working with Frank…” She whispered. The rest were confused. How had they not noticed the doctor walk past them? As if sensing their confusion, she continued “Said you were singing…didn’t notice him…” her voice broke. “Said Frank…” The air got caught in her lungs and the others stopped breathing all together “Said…his heart stopped beating…doesn’t know if he’ll make it through the night…” she broke down crying.
All the girls began to cry, Ray and Mikey just sat in shock. No other emotion able to pass their expressions. But Gerard shook his head.
“No.” He said slowly. “No. Frankie won’t leave us…he won’t. He can’t. He’s Frankie. He won’t…I can feel it.” Gerard continued. “If we sit with him… I promise he’ll come back” Gerard got up and walked to the room where Franks body lay. Claud, Emma, Coral and Ray followed soon after. Charlotte was about to walk in, but Mikey grabbed her arm, she looked at him as he whispered:
“Will he be okay?” Charlotte shrugged.
“Doctor said he might not make it through the night…”
