This is the new kid: Jack, he’s my best friend! This comment was from Samantha so I figured it didn’t mean much, but she was right this kid was new. He didn’t look like anything crazy, special or new he was really quite normal. He was in the gifted program like me and we shared two classes and lunch… Shocker. I mean to be perfectly honest, there wasn’t much special about me either, I had dyed hair minimal make-up and I listened to rap. (You could tell by the way I talked)
Actually no Sam I believe he’s my best friend. This time the comment was my own I didn’t know shit about this kid.It Was just impulse.. Why Did i say that? What’s his name? Jack, I made sure to keep that name in mind. But to my surprise he responded;
‘’Yea um, she’s my best friend.’’
Great. This Kid Talks. But 5 minutes into class I realized he wasn’t the silent type. Sam was peeved that new kid had already betrayed her; she left us by throwing a middle finger up and found a desk. There we were sitting at desk in awkward silence. We traded numbers and I figured I would text him. I mean why not? I got home from the first day of school with nothing to show but a whole backpack full of things needed to be signed. I texted that boy; No Answer. Oh well, lost cause I thought to myself, and what could I say school dragged on

First Dance! Wow. It was already September which meant I had put up with a month of this bull. We were all outside waiting. So far I had no one to really hang out with because my cousin was too busy with some friends of ours (Boys) and my friends didn’t actually ever come ti dances I figured id make some calls. I scrolled down my phone… went all the way to J, Jack! Well, I guess ill try It what do I got to lose? I called. He picked up
Hey Jack!
‘’Hey your Um... Milly? Right.’’
Yes that is me. Milagro Guzman
So erm Jack? Are you coming to the dance.
‘’Yea sure where is it? ‘’
’The community center. You know where that is?’
‘’Yea I do. I live 5 minutes away from it. Be right there Milly.’’
We were in 7th grade and he was new, he came from some rich snobby school so he had never been to one of our dances. I had someone to hang out with, someone I don’t really know I guess. He got there and quickly found me, he didn’t know anybody so I guess he was lucky to have me, I knew everyone so he was quickly introduced. I didn’t dance. I don’t dance. They played good music and I had a good time getting to know this dude, he was funny, Really funny. I loved every second of it. It was time to leave the dance and to be honest I didn’t want to. I was walking away and he got my attention.
‘’Don’t go’’ – It was from him, and for the first time in the bustle of tons of kids trying to get out and the dim lights- I noticed his eyes where a deep shade of green. They looked Just Like Frank Iero's. He grabbed my wrist, “Milly don’t go, you’re my best friend and I don’t want you to leave’’
I was pulled by my cousin who was obviously eager to leave. As I was dragged past it seemed like the world slowed, I saw the smile he had all night slowly fade. I wanted to melt. Be when the shock of cold air and ciggarate smoke hit me I was snapped back to reality. Best Friend? What was that supposed to mean... Was he serious? I still didn’t get it. He had a best friend, the only reason I knew was because that’s the only person he talked to, or talked about for that matter. I knew his ‘’ best friend’’ very well actually his name was Lee and he had gone to my elementary school. My phone beeped, guess who? Jack. We texted all night at one point in the conversation I thought I couldn’t just be friends with him, he was like addicting and intoxicating. Wow
