“What?” Mikey asked me.

“It’s… It’s Bert.”

“What? How do you know?”

“He just said back there, he called me by my name!”

“So?”

“So? I don’t know; how else he could possibly know my name?!?”

“Gerard: calm down,” Mikey said patiently. “Maybe we said it when he was in the room.” To this,

I shook my head. “Okay, maybe he overheard us.”

I didn’t say anything in reply for a moment. “It’s not possible. We introduced ourselves to Bob

before he even came in the room.”

Mikey thought about it, his face remained emotionless the whole time. Then it seemed to hit

him. “Holy shit!” he gasped. “Holy shit. Holy shit. HOLY SHIT!” He made a sharp turn into the

exit lane he’d almost missed.

“What’re we supposed to do?” I asked him.

“I don’t know… holy shit.”

“Okay, Mikey, I get it.”

“What can we do? I mean, if he’s the one who made all this just to get to you, we can’t exactly

ask him nicely to change the whole fucked-up universe back to normal. Now, that I think of it-

how the fuck did he do all this? It’s not normal. Not normal at all. It’s like, not even human-“

I sat quietly trying to think clearly as Mikey rambled on. “I can’t explain it, but- it

happened. It’s done. But, if it can be made, it can be destroyed… right?”

Mikey shrugged. “I hope so. What can we do?”

“I don’t know. But we have to do something about you 4, because if he could threaten you

before, he can do even more so now.”

Mikey nodded. “Understood. Well… we can go explain to Bob what happened. Maybe he’ll come with

us. But we’d have to be careful with Bert around. The worst thing we could do now is let Bert

know that we know that he did this. And then, we can go get Frank.”

“Yeah, about that-“

“What? You told him everything, right?”

“Not exactly.”

“Not exactly?”

“Actually he doesn’t know anything.”

“Damn it, Gerard!” Mikey cursed at me.

“I just thought maybe it’d be better if he didn’t know!” I tried to defend myself.

Mikey sighed heavily. After an awkward moment of silence, Mikey shrugged. “Maybe your right. I

mean don’t get me wrong- he has every reason to know, and you should’ve told him, but it may be

a while until we can reach him and tell him everything, so if he doesn’t know, he shouldn’t be

in danger… right?”

“I hope so. But what about Ray and Bob?” I asked.

“Well, Ray’s all the way in New York, while Bert is here, hundreds of miles away in L.A., and

Ray thinks you fell off your rocker one too many times, so he’s in no harm either,” Mikey

stated. “Bob however- I’m not sure what to do about him. We can’t just go and take him away

from The Used because: one- It’s almost midnight and the time itself has “we’re up to

something” written all over it; two- The Used is in the middle of a tour right now- I doubt

they would just let us take Bob for who knows how long; and three- even if we do come up with a

good excuse about how we need Bob at this hour of the night and manage to get a hold of him,

Bert will get suspicious.”

I sighed once again as Mikey turned onto the street his house was on. “Well… we can’t just do

nothing at all.”

Mikey looked at me, almost in a pitiful way. “I don’t like it either, but there’s not much we

can do at the moment that won’t give us away.”

I nodded in response as Mikey pulled into the driveway. However, I stopped Mikey when he cut

the engine and was about to get out of the car. “Wait,” I grabbed his arm and pulled him back

into his seat.

“Just hear me out for a moment,” I told him when he gave me a questioning look. “How do you

propose Frank’s band feels about this?”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, because of this fucked-up world, they seem to have everything they ever wanted,” I

pointed out.

“And?”

“Well, in my world, after Pencey Prep broke up, they started drinking a lot, and eventually

they went broke. Two of them joined Frank again in another band recently, but Frank’s been so

busy with My Chemical Romance that they weren’t nearly as successful as whatever Pencey Prep

had been at the time of the breakup,” I explained to him. “After they did break up, Frank told

me it was because they got into a fight and just couldn’t get along anymore, but then he said

they were mostly just in it for money, fame, and the capability to get chicks, and Frank

himself was only about the music and self expression.”

“So,” Mikey said, trying to get his words formed, “You’re saying it’s a ‘coincidence’ that

because the band never broke up, they have all the money and fame they could ever want?”

“I’m saying it’s too big of a coincidence for them to not know anything.”

“Oh my god- it makes sense,” Mikey gasped. “So, the guys of Pencey Prep and Bert are working

together? But what about the other guys in The Used?”

I shook my head. “They were already rich and famous in my world, and by the looks of it, having

Bob as the drummer changed nothing. I don’t think they’re involved at all. But I do think

your ‘wife’ knows something about this.”

Mikey unlocked the front door, and when he opened it I walked right passed him inside. He

slammed the door behind him.

“So, what’s this about my wife being involved?” Mikey asked, obviously mad.

“She has to know something.”

“She doesn’t!” Mikey argued.

“Then you explain to me why Alicia lived in my world and you’re married to her!” I shouted at

him.

Once I had, however, I immediately regretted it. Mikey looked hurt, and that nearly killed me

knowing I was the cause. “Mikes,” I said softly, but he didn’t look at me. I grabbed his

shoulders, and he finally looked me in the eye. “Alicia is alive. You’re married to her. You

can get her back, too. You just have to help me fix this.”

He didn’t say anything for a moment, but finally nodded in agreement.
