Mickey:
[Using chopsticks to balance a grain of rice]
Quiet and demure ... graceful, polite, delicate, refined, poised ...
[she picks up a paintbrush and makes a mark on her arm]
... punctual!
[A rooster crows]
Aaiee!
[Blowing on her arm]
Toshio!! Toshio!! Toshi--
[she glances down at a sleeping boy on the floor]
Ah! There you are!
[The boy wakes up]
Who's the smartest cat boy in the world? C'mon,
cat boy! Can you help me with my chores today?
[she ties a sack of chicken feed to his back, complete with a pole and a fish attached. Toshio immediately chases the fish, running promptly into a wall and then out the door, scattering grain everywhere.]
Kyo:
[praying]
Honorable Ancestors ... please help Mickey impress the Matchmaker today.
[Toshio, followed by a herd of chickens, bursts into the family temple.]
Please, please help her.
Mickey:
Brother, I brought you some ... Whoop!
[bangs into Kyo, he catches the tea pot on his cane while the cups hit the ground and shatter]
Kyo:
Mickey ...
Mickey:
I brought a spare!
Kyo:
Mickey!
Mickey:
Remember, the doctor said three cups of tea in the morning ...
Kyo:
Mickey!!
Mickey:
... and three at night.
Kyo:
MICKEY!!!!
Mickey:
O_o
Kyo:
You should already be in town. We're counting on you to ...
Mickey:
Uphold the family honor. Don't worry, bro. I won't let you down. Wish me luck!
Kyo:
Hurry! I'm going to ... pray some more.
(In town)
Woman #1:
Tomie, where is your sister? The Matchmaker is not a patient woman.
Tomie:
Of all the days to be late! I should have prayed to the ancestors for luck.
Samara:
How lucky can they be? They're dead. Besides, I've got all the luck we'll need.
[Holds up a wicker cage with a cricket inside.]
This is your chance to prove yourself.
[She closes her eyes and steps off the sidewalk.]
Tomie:
SAM! No!
(Samara walks across the street; vehicles crash, but she emerges unharmed.)
Samara:
Yup! This cricket's a lucky one!
[Tomie sighs. Mickey comes riding up on a horse, and hops off.]
Mickey:
I'm here!
[looks at her sister]
What? But, T, I had to--
Tomie:
None of your excuses. Now, let's get you cleaned up.
