Nikki’s POV
After what felt like an eternity, we pulled into my driveway. The whole car ride with my father had been hell, I didn't even want to get in the car, but I knew that if I didn't I probably wouldn't have been able to get home...
I opened the car door and he grabbed my arm, to stop me from getting out. I turned to look at him. He sighed, “Nikki...” He stopped.
I pulled away from him and climbed out of the car, “Tell Danni I'll miss her.”
He shook his head, “Nikki, it's not like you're never going to see her again.”
I sighed, “It sure seems that way, unless she's planning on coming home.”
He sighed and I slammed the car door shut. I ran into the house and was met with my mom. She frowned, “What took you so god damn long?”
My mouth fell open and I shook my head, “You said you were going to get me...”
She sighed, “I did? I don't remember saying that.” She grabbed my arm forcefully and dragged me to the living room. She threw me on the couch beside Josh and he grabbed a hold of my arms, holding me there. I could see my dad's car still sitting in the driveway. He was probably wishing that I would come back out and go home with him. That didn't sound like too bad of an idea right now... My mom pulled the curtain down over the window and came back over to me.
I couldn't be sure if my dad had left or not, but I couldn't see headlights anymore...
My mom grabbed my chin and forced me to look at her, “Look at me when I'm talking to you!”
I felt tears falling down my cheeks.
She sighed, “You are such a cry baby...”
I tried to move my head, but she held me tighter. “Nikki... stop. You don't need to do that. We're not going to hurt you.”
I knew she was lying. They had hurt me earlier, and with her grip on my chin and Josh's grip on my arms, I was hurting badly. I knew I was going to have bruises from this, just adding to the others.
She sighed, “I saw your father gave you a ride home? Why? You could have walked.”
I shook my head, “He offered me a ride...”
She slapped me, “No he didn't! He wouldn't have! He doesn't love you, Nikki!” She paused, slapping me again, “I bet you asked him to take you home.”
I shook my head, tears falling heavier, “No... I swear I didn't.”
This time, Josh grabbed my hair and pulled, “Don't lie to your mother. She only wants to protect you.”
My mom smiled, “That's right, Nik. I don't want anything to ever hurt you...”
I figured there was no use in fighting them and I nodded, “I know mom... I'm sorry. I won't do it ever again. I promise.”
She smiled, “Josh, let her go.”
He did as he was told and I stood up. She wrapped her arms around me, “Nikki, I love you so much.”
I nodded, tears still falling, “I love you too, mom.”
“Now, go get some sleep. It's late.”
I nodded and walked up the stairs to my room. I locked the door behind me and slumped against it. I put my head in my hands and cried. Maybe my dad was right... Maybe he really did love me and Danni...
I sighed and looked up. I glanced at my window and shook my head. I could sneak out easily, but when my mom found out... she would know exactly where I went... and who knows what she would do to me.
I took a deep breath and grabbed my cell phone. I dialed Danni's number. She answered after the second ring, “Nikki?” she answered.
I nodded, “Danni, I'm coming back to the hospital. Let everyone know that I'll be there in a second.”
“Umm... Okay. Frank and I are in Ashley's room.” she paused, “I'm not sure where dad is.”
I nodded, “I'll be there soon.” I hung up and stuck my phone back in my pocket. I stood up and walked to my window. I opened my window and climbed onto the roof. I had done this enough times before that it wasn't very difficult to climb down to the ground. I looked in through the kitchen window and I saw my mom and Josh sitting at the dining room table, talking. Thankfully, their backs were to me.
I smiled and started running. I wanted to get to the hospital as soon as possible.
About halfway there, I slowed down to a fast walk. All I could think about was what my mom did... and how Danni was probably right about everything. I was thinking about what our dad had said to me when I was lying in my hospital bed, and the weird dream I had...
As I approached the hospital parking lot, I started jogging again. My breathing started coming heavier, but I just pushed harder. I was almost to the hospital entrance when I collapsed. I couldn't feel my legs. I lie back on the cool cement and let out a breath. After that, everything was black.
