A most excellent final chapter and a most honest one (it's not all fluff, there's considerable honest pain but it's honestly dealt with - methinks Hermione will be comforting Harry for a while as he comes to terms with all that's happened).
I'm glad you were able to finally post this (I'd wondered what happened to you) and the struggle over getting internet access at the library sounds rather familiar from other locales). My sympathies regarding the job (I lost mine in February but managed to find another, back home in Texas, by mid-April) and I quite understand your very proper sense of priorities (I've been laid off way too many times in my career). If you've got web access and your resume on a disk, I know my present employer, Bell Helicopter, is in a hiring mode of sorts and their jobs website can be accessed on line, though it's not the easiest (or at least wasn't earlier this year) to navigate through. If there's anything I can do to help with job search or as a reference, I'd be glad to help.
Enough others have already commented on "Can't Have it Both Ways" that I shan't, save to say that I can understand your confusion, both are excellent writers.
Thank you for a most enjoyable story and I look forward to your next one.Author's response
Heya Cat!
A great deal of the feeling comes from experience. As I told Zamia, I’ve had to bury far too many friends. There will be a revisiting of a sort , of the feelings involved, especially as it concerns one Susan Bones. There are others in her situation, but since I chose to highlight her response to killing in chapter 31, I should finish her part of the story.
Library and stupidity. (Le Sigh!) I always thought libraries where one went to gain knowledge, not hide from it. It took seven years of politics and infighting to get the new library build and the single most vocal opposition was the religious groups claiming ‘Internet Porn!’
While I appreciate the tip, I cannot move from here. I have my family’s home to look after. If we leave, the state would be more than happy to glom onto it. With nobody to maintain it, they could claim it abandoned and condemn it…a house that has stood here for more than ninety years, and has seen six generations of my family.
Also, while my experiences as an aircraft electrician and helicopter simulator operator/maintenance tech, might be a good in, I don’t have an A&P license.
Don’t worry. I’ll work it out.
‘Can’t have it both ways’. Yeah, got it.

Wow, great way to end a truly awesome story. Have you posted the story on fanfiction.net?Author's response
Hello, juggler,
I have not, but I am looking in that direction. They’ve had some rather draconian policies as to complaints by readers. Instead of investigating the complaint, they simply delete all the stories by that author. Makes for a rather stressful jobsite, neh?JEDI POTTER

Hello, aredphxbird2,
Thank you. This story is almost complete. I will post the epilogue as soon as I can arrange it. Priorities, y’know. I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the ride. Almost two years and four hundred thousand words later, I’m ready to put this tale to bed. Future works of art, huh? I’ve got a few on the burner.
Thanks again

Let me say that it's great to see you back, though I'm sorry about your job and the Internet access thing, as I sure can sympathize with that to say the least. Definitely great to see that as things wrapped up, that it seemed very...honest, to say the least with how it went. IMO, This is what we wanted to see so much at the end of canon, but instead basically got covered up and set aside so that it looked like there was no real progress at all, and things were essentially the same?! FAIL! I'm glad to see that this was a difficult time, even as it turned out that the light won, and that hopefully Harry will be able to finally live his life the way he's wanted to since he first became aware of how unfair he was treated for so long. Well done with this story and take care.Author's response
Heya Wonder!
It’s great to be back. I only wish I had my internet. (Le sigh!) the job situation sucks, but I am not too concerned. I’ll find something. Fortunately with the house being paid for, all I need is minimum wage for the time being.
End of canon: Yeah, JKR really dropped the ball there. All the shit Harry & Co. went through, and nothing changed. Epic fail there! Makes me think she found the absolute worst thirteen year old fanfic writer and paid her a hundred bucks to write both books while she went on tour.
My personal experience comes to play here. I’ve had to deliver the bad news or bring a friend home, more often than I’d like. That’s even harder than combat. I do have to allow that JKR has never been in combat, and while she has had to bury her parents, (I believe) she’s never had to deal with the aftermath of violent death.
But as you’ve said, Harry will be able to live his life without the interference of a certain headmaster.
There will be one more chapter to tie up the last threads.
Thanks again.

After re-reading this, I did have one question. What happened to those who were "tubed"? Mind you, it doesn't really matter since their pretty much out of the picture, but it could get interesting, especially for Sybil Trelaney when the compulsions kiced in and she didn't have anyone to return to (though I suspect Ernie would not appreciate waking up with the slap makr still on his face and the witches even more powerful than when he was put in there). Still, those are minor and unimportant threads to deal with.Author's response
Heya again, Cat.
They’ll be released in the epilogue.
Sybill: Since Harry had Winky deliver the blood to Madam Bones, they will have put it to good use. She will wake up compulsion free. Ernie will have the slap mark. It will heal on it’s own. Mebby he’ll learn to treat woman with more respect.

Great story, good chapter. looking forward to next post.
'Can't have it both ways' is a story writen by robst on ffnet. if the story you took inspration from is about the tri wizard tournement with the goblins helping Harry and Harry representing Gringots. a Harry/Hermione pairing and a friendship with all the other champions, Ron and Dumbdoor bashing. if the author isn't robst, then it was stolen. please report the theft unless you were just mistaken
anyway, thanks for all your hard work.
love, Robyn.Author's response
Hello, Robyn.
‘Can’t have it…’ Yeah. I got that. (Blushes) It was Robst, and I owe him an apology. Great story, though.

One of the best crossovers I have read. I am a Harry Ginny shipper, but found your story very readable. I am not a denizen of FicWad, but joined so I could thank you for a great story. During the writing of this, you lost your sister, and 2 jobs. I hope all is well now.
BobAuthor's response
Hello, Hatter (Not the mad one, I presume?)
Thank you for your kind words. It was a long, tumultuous and often aggravating, yet wholly enjoyable part of my life. Kinda like raising my daughter. Crossovers are difficult to write because one must had a ‘feel’ for both ‘verses. I was fortunate, as I enjoy reading both, and have an eidetic memory, and most importantly, I limited the exposure to a specific set of books. Trying to include everything leads to trouble.
There are quite a few very good Harry/Ginny stories our there, ‘The Long Road Home’ and ‘Ginny’s Gift’, both by Ashwinder, are two of my favorites. I believe there would be fewer objections to the Harry/Ginny ship if Rowling had developed the little carrot’s character.
That you joined FicWad just to review my story is a huge complement for me. I thank you. (Bows in gratitude) I’ve been considering posting on FF.n, but their policies just keep getting weirder.
Sister. It’s been nearly two years now, and I find myself missing her still. She had the most unusual sense of humor, and was a walking encyclopedia. Three years before she died, she earned two baccalaureate degrees (English Literature and Social Anthropology) and took Cum Laude in both. She spoke four languages and could swear in twelve. (I only speak three and curse in seven…Le Sigh!)
She didn't even follow the Harry Potter fandom, preferring The Lion King, and yet, would take time to offer much needed (and often unappreciated) critical advice. Having an expert on literature, the English language, Mythology and anthropology, leaning over your shoulder making snarky comments about your writing can be a pain, but it does cut down on research time.
Don’t worry about the jobs. As a carpenter, all jobs are temporary. In fact, I believe construction is the only trade where you actually work to put yourself out of work. (Odd, I know, but there it is.)
Until the next post.

DAMN REPUGNICANS!! If it were up to THEM, blacks would still live under Jim Crow, you could probably torture your Mexican gardner with impunity and frankly they sound more like the most racist of the pure-blood brigade than a mainstream political party I.M.O; the whole damn lot should be ashamed of themselves!! DISGUSTEDAuthor's response
“But…but…but…they have money!
It’s interesting that while America was meant to be a secular nation (John Adams to the Barbary powers of the 1780’s-1790-‘s) our forefathers managed to maintain the Puritanical ideals to this day. One of those ideals is that if God smiled on you you would be rich; if you weren’t rich, you’ve done something to earn his disfavor. As I’ve mentioned, whenever one of thse frauds asks, “What would Jesus do?” I’m minded of the day he took a bullwhip in hand and went to evict the moneylenders and merchants from the temple.
