PURSUIT OF TRUTH
PREFACE:
Her destiny was the vase with 7 long stemmed white tulips. She walked closer to the vase. It was sitting delicately on and old cherry wood dresser. All this time she had been waiting, and finally, these tulips would lead her to where she wanted to be. This moment had finally come. She carefully searched the vase, in between each tulip, searching for a note or a hidden object. Something, anything to help her find him. But there was nothing. Just water to keep the stems of beauties alive. Disappointed, she threw the vase. And there, just behind the vase, was a crumpled up piece of paper. Frantically she grabbed the paper and smoothed the creases. Then she read:
I am right here in front of you. I am completely transparent, but I’m out in full view. Reach for me. See through the lie. I need you, just as I always have. See through the lie. Find me, sister. Signed- Invisibly here.
She didn’t understand. The words he had used seemed so foreign to her. She was completely clueless. The only thing she was sure, was that her brother had been here. But why couldn’t he say where he was? Why did he make the note sound like a puzzle? She was so frustrated. But she wouldn’t give up. Not after all this much time had passed. She would get to the bottom, no matter what the truth be. All she had to do was put the pieces of her puzzle together…to unfold the truth…
It was a beautiful florescent day in San Francisco California. The sun was shining simply magnificently. The birds were chirping and the city was buzzing. Christianna Shae however, was not. She couldn’t see the sun. She heard nothing but the annoying constant chirp of the birds who chirped viciously and in some unknown rhythm. The sun’s rays shined, but Christianna’s day was gray, just as any other.
“Come on Christianna, give him a chance” RJ pleaded. “He hasn’t had a date since his girlfriend dumped him. He needs to get out, and so do you”.
“I refuse. I will not benefit from a date with him at all”.
“Oh but you will. You will interact with someone other than me and Lil Bubbi”.
“What’s the use? We both know I won’t enjoy the date. It would just be awkward because he and I both know I wouldn’t want to be there. Also, on another note, he was dumped. So there’s gotta be somethin’ wrong with him”.
“Everyone gets dumped at one point in time. Does that mean there is something wrong with everyone?”.
“Not specifically for having being dumped, but yes, there is something wrong with everyone in this world…including you RJ”. She attempted a smile, but she really couldn’t lie to RJ. There was something about his eyes that didn’t make it okay.
“Yeah I know…”. He seemed slightly sad for a moment, but he quickly snapped out of it. “Anyways I simply wish to look out for you Christianna. You know that”.
“ Yes I know. But I don’t need anyone looking out for me. I have me, myself and I…and Lil Bubbi when needed…”. She thought about the countless number of nights she cried herself to sleep, holding onto Lil Bubbi with all her might doing her best not to squish him. What would she do without Lil Bubbi? Jump out the window? Set herself on fire? Of course not. She had a goal. She was not going to throw that away. “…Besides…who on earth would want to hurt me? I need no one to look out for me, no one knows me!”
RJ glanced at her, then looked at the ground. “You have no idea who could want to hurt you Christianna…”.
“Don’t be such a drama queen RJ. Gosh”. It was time to go home. After thinking about Lil Bubbi she had wanted to snuggle him. “See you tomorrow RJ” she said in a rush. She didn’t want to talk anymore.
“Bye…” he watched as she ran away without a care in the world. If only she would realize that she should have every care in the world. But she didn’t. So what could he do about it?
