"Holy shit. Look at this mess." Frank said as he stood on the screened in porch in his boxers. I had just come down the stairs in my own boxers and iron maiden t-shirt. Mikey shoved a cup of coffee in my face before I headed over towards Frank and Ray, staring at the disaster covering the beach and homes.
"Shit." I said shaking my head. "That must have been some storm last night." I mumbled more to myself than the others staring across the sand to see broken fences and chairs everywhere.
"I slept right through it." Bob came out of nowhere already dressed in his swimming trunks.
"Where are you going?" Ray calmly asked staring at him like he was crazy.
"To clean up the pool, where else?" He shrugged it off and pushed past us, down the porch steps.
"I guess I'll go help him." I said turning on my heels and heading up stairs. The others never said they would help so I assumed it would just be Bobert and I. As I was dropping my shirt on the floor, there was a tapping sound coming from my window. I pranced over to see Bob throwing pebbles at my window, waving me down.
"Hurry up!" He yelled, even though it was muffled through the glass. I rolled my eyes and slipped another shirt on along with my swim trunks before running downstairs.
"Can you and Bob take care of the pool while we go help the lifeguards with the beach?" Mikey asked as I ran through the kitchen dropping off my coffee cup in the sink.
"Yeah, we've got it." I mumbled while taking off outside and around to the side of the house, where the destroyed pool was.
"Fuck." I ran a hand through my hair looking at how bad everything was.
"Yeah, no kidding." Bob stated as he was fishing seaweed from the now murky colored water.
"What do you want me to do?" I asked kicking some seaweed absent minded back into the pool with my foot.
"For one don't do that." He laughed at me before speaking again. "Secondly just help me get all this shit out of here and empty the pool so we can refill it." I walked around to the other side of the pool, to grab the other net but out of the corner of my eye, something shining from the water caught my eye. I stepped closer until I was kneeling beside the edge to get a closer look. I examined the shine more but I couldn't tell from all the moving it was doing.
"Bob, do you see this?" I called him over to kneel beside me.
"See what?" He asked staring into the water, but not seeing what I was obviously.
"That shining thing." I stated even pointing to where it was.
"Not really, maybe the pool lights are still on." He said standing up and going back to his business.
"Maybe." I mumbled under my breath still watching it move around quite fast. I stood up and began picking up the folding chairs back up and sitting them right. Several were broken but that just meant we had to buy new ones that we badly needed. Before long Bob had the entire pool empty of seaweed other than the salt water but he had outdone himself.
"Guys, we're running out to the store. We're out of some stuff. Are you guys coming?" Frank asked standing at the gate with Mikey and Ray behind him.
"Yeah, I need to get a few things." Bob sighed and got up from his knees from his spot by the pool. "I'm not even going to change, you guys can just deal with my stench." He said brushing past them as they followed behind him.
"You sure Gee?" Mikey asked turning back around to me to see me staring back into the water.
"Huh?"
"I said, are you sure you don't want to go?" He said again as I never took my eyes off the light swimming around under the water.
"Yeah, I'm fine. You guys go ahead." I said waving him off as he caught up with the others. I still was seeing the light even after Bob made sure the pool lights were off. It was weird seeing something so bright in daylight, and secondly; moving. I sat on the one chair that wasn't broken and waited until the object stopped moving, which felt like almost an hour. When it came to a stop near the corner of the eight foot deep end, I sauntered over slowly and got down on my hands and knees to get a closer look. It looked as if it was right at the surface, so I reached down and grabbed it. What I saw in my hand though was something I never would have expected, something I didn't think could move by itself like it had been. The beautiful purple, pearl necklace laying in my palm was shining bright but not as bright as it had been in the water. I stepped back a little bit and studied it more. It had elegant pearls, almost as if right from a oysters shell. In the center of the beads, was a clear, well almost clear shell, that had never even been chipped. I smiled as I looked at its beauty before deciding to go back inside and put it somewhere safe. When my back was turned, there was a splash, not loud but not quiet either. I quickly turned back around but didn't see anything in the water, so I kept going about my business.
"Hi." I stopped dead in my tracks when hearing a soft, meek voice from behind. I didn't want to turn around, I was scared but at the same time curious.
"Excuse me?" There it was again, I swore I was imagining the whole thing but I slowly twirled around to see this beautiful girl with her arms propped up on the edge of the pool with a adorable smile taking place on her lips. I was so shocked I couldn't move but my eyes had no problem rolling over her bare chest hidden behind her long hair. I knew then what happened yesterday wasn't a dream, she was real. Her smile was starting to fade when she realized I wasn't speaking to her but staring like a idiot.
"You have my necklace." She said shyly biting her lip as she stared at my hand holding the pearls. I still wasn't moving but my mouth obviously worked.
"What?" I whispered staring into her deep blue eyes that pierced my soul.
"You took my necklace." She whispered back loud enough for me to hear her. I looked down at my hand and saw indeed I did have a necklace but I didn't know it was hers.
"This?" I held it up with shaky hands as I watched it glisten in the light. She smiled and nodded as she pulled herself a bit more out of the water so I could see her abdomen but her legs were still in the water. I slowly and cautiously walked to her and kneeling on one knee so I could hand it back to her.
"Thank you." She smiled as she carefully flipped her hair backwards and wrapped the necklace around her slender neck. When her breasts were exposed I couldn't help but stare even if I tried not to. She obviously wasn't phased by me staring at her chest since she never covered them back up with her hair.
"So...rry." I stuttered when she caught me staring, all the while her smile never leaving her lips.
"Don't be." She whispered sweetly as she blushed making her turn her face to the right so I couldn't see. It only made me smirk to myself to know I had that affect on her. She turned back to me with her cheeks still a crimson color, and giggled.
"What are you doing in there?" I asked wondering why in the hell she would swim in that filth.
"In here?" She asked propping her chin on her hands as she stared into my eyes.
"Yeah." I smiled as I sat on one knee and let my hand prop over my other.
"I'm swimming." She laughed the cutest most quietest laugh I ever heard.
"Oh." I made a circle shape with my mouth as she just smiled at me, again. "Why don't you get out of there? Don't you need to be home, with your parents?" I asked knowing she was young but couldn't quite tell how old she was.
"It doesn't quite work like that." She said biting her lip as she blushed.
"Oh? Then how does it work?" I said getting closer to her, smirking as my nose almost brushed hers.
"See, I can't exactly leave the water." She backed, well swam away from me hesitantly until she was a good three feet away.
"Why?" I asked curiously and mad she moved her beautiful face from mine, I was that close to tasting her lips. She didn't say anything though, she just ducked her head under the water and what I saw next was something I never would have expected.
"Holy shit." I whispered losing my balance and falling backwards on my ass. I didn't know where she went but she was still under the water, somewhere. I pushed myself from my butt and got back on my knees as I leaned over the side of the pool. She scared the shit out of me when she came back up like lightning. She was smiling still and now her hair was covering her breasts again but I was still attracted to her.
"Your...your...a..." I kept stuttering but she rolled her eyes playfully and smiled.
"Mer-maid." She said slowly so I could comprehend her as she flapped her gorgeous, blue fin behind her.
"How...I mean...how is that possible?" I stuttered once again but she just pulled herself more out of the water so her face was close to mine again.
"Well, my father and my mother had se..." I cut her off with a finger to her lips.
"Sugar, I know about that but how...your a mermaid. How can you have sex?" I whispered as my finger was still gently on her lips. She smiled and grabbed my hand against her face as she kissed my fingertip. I felt like I could die under the heat that was circulating through my body from her touch.
"There are ways." She whispered. "But I can't tell you."
"Shit." I said shaking my head. "That must have been some storm last night." I mumbled more to myself than the others staring across the sand to see broken fences and chairs everywhere.
