Injection 1: The Whiteness

Darkness. The best place to be. The Whiteness scares me, it means something bad is going to happen. If I open my eyes I see it. Then the White people come and inject me with that poison. I’m going to die. Here alone. Someone outside of the Whiteness help me! I’m scared and alone. No one? Fine, I will protect myself then. Here I go.

Whiteness. Argh, it’s so bright. Darkness. Better. Click. Oh no, Dr. White is coming. No, no, I’m going to hide in the Darkness. “Zamion, I know you’re awake.” The brightness burns my eyes, I’ll open them slowly. The Whiteness is consuming me. “Sit up.” Dr. White was sounding rough as ever. I guess I'll follow his orders for today. My feet are cold against this bitter white floor. “Are you going to be a good boy today?” He always asks me this question and already knows the answer.
“Of course, Dr. White.”

Chapter 1: New Job

I remember my hands sweating as my soon-to-be boss was looking over my résumé. I’d never seen an office like his before. There were large windows behind his desk. When the sun would set you could see the colors blend so beautifully in those windows. I tried to stare out to the sunset but it was cloudy that day (as it mostly is in Hillsburg). My soon-to-be boss cleared his throat as he set the papers down. “Well, you’ve got the job, Ms. Hansford,” I liked how blunt he was, straight to the point. I was about to thank him but he interrupted me. “I have a special task for you though.”

What he had said, at first, scared me a little. “You’re going to take care of our worst patient,” was what he’d said, but I’d work with the children first to get use to the job. The children were great, and fun to take care of. The oddest thing about them was that all of them liked to sing “Mary had a Little Lamb” at certain times. It creeped me out a little. Anyway, my time of taking care of the children is over. I don’t think this patient could honestly be that bad. Then again, I could be wrong. I went to my boss’ office before going to this patient’s room. “He takes medication daily,” he informed me, “Dr. Holland will assist you for a while then you’ll be taking full care of him.” “Yes, daddy—I mean boss,” I slipped on my words. Kira Hansford is my name, and the man in front of me gave me that name. Surprisingly, a smile crept onto his face. A smile barely came onto his face. “Kira, I love you, sweetie. You know why I’m giving you this tough job?” I silently shook my head in response. “I trust and believe in you. And I think you can do this job,” he had pride as he said this to me. He grabbed onto my shoulders tightly and looked me dead in the eyes. Sometimes my dad didn’t show much care for me, but deep down I think he does. He’s just busy with work. Now I get to see him every day.

He let me go and I was now heading to my patient’s room, 323B. Suddenly, I heard a scream coming from my patient’s room.
