"Chief, you didn't tell me that your head of Plastics was Mark Sloan." Derek's eyes shot to Mark for a retort. "Is there a problem with Dr. Sloan? He's one of our finest surgeons." "It looks like I'll have to keep away from him." Melrose's deep moss green eyes burned into Mark as she turned and went down the hall. "What the hell was that?" Richard hissed at Mark who finally snapped back into the world. "Dr. Turner and Mark dated back in high school through med school, and lived together in New York, before he broke up with her." "She broke up with ME." Mark hissed at Derek who rolled his eyes. "If she quits this hospital, which we desperately do not want, I'm going to go after you. Make things right with her, Sloan." Richard warned and went off towards his office. "It finally looks like your past is coming back up to bite you." "Shut up, Derek." Meredith finally summed up enough courage to walk up to the bickering friends. "So, um, you and Melrose are friends?" "Melrose and I are close, she and I did boxing together before she and Mark split." "That explains your punches on Mark." Mark stared at Meredith. "She BROKE UP WITH ME." "Which is hard to believe that a WOMAN broke up with MARK." Derek grinned. "You're an ass." "Oh, so this the woman that broke Mark Sloan." "She didn't break me, she may have broken up with me but she didn't break me." "Do you even know why she broke up with you?" "Probably finding out Mark slept with several of her staff?" "Derek, shut up." Mark hissed. "I'm just telling Meredith the story." "Don't you have skulls to crack open?" Mark said narrowing his eyes. "I do, in fact," Derek turned to Meredith who gave him a smile. "I'll see you later." Derek kissed her on the lips and turned to Mark. "Where's mine?" Mark said sarcastically. "Go ask Melrose." "Ah-Hah-Hah." Mark rolled his eyes watching everyone disappear from him. He turned his head down the hall where Melrose strode away from him. He saw her meeting her staff, she looked exactly the same. Her hair was slightly different with her bangs that went over her forehead but she changed so much. He sighed, turning away from the hallway and went for his daily duties.
"So, here we have the OR board, this where your schedules will be at and to see where you can find a break." Miranda Baily explained to Melrose, she nodded along watching the woman interested. "I've shown you everything, I'll take you to your office." Melrose nodded and followed her. "You will get your patients tomorrow, since you're still settling in. Your staff will come shortly." Miranda smiled at the woman. She turned and studied the office, Miranda eyed her for a moment and then turned nearly walking right into Mark. "Uh," She said and her eyes slid over to Melrose. "I'm going," She whispered and glared at Mark, "You better not do anything stupid." Miranda moved out of the room. Melrose turned her eyes finding Mark's, they instantly went ice cold. "Why are you in here?" "We need to talk." "No, we don't. I'm not going to acknowledge your presence and it'll be the same with you." "That will be really freaking hard." "I don't care, you'll have to manage." "Mel-" "Don't call me Mel. Don't. It's Dr. Turner to you." "Quit getting angry at me." "You're the one that got me like this." "Like what? A bitter old bat?" "We're the same age, you old bastard." Mark touched his chest as if Melrose had shot him in the chest. "You got a lot more feisty since the last time I saw you." "The last time I saw you, I walked out the door of MY hospital." "That wasn't YOUR hospital, it was mine." "God, you are still the same arrogant selfish son of a bitch that I met ten years ago!" "Don't make me seem like the bad guy!" "Oh Jesus, Mark! You still think that YOU'RE the victim?" They glared at each other. After a moment Melrose shook her head, "I don't have the time to bring up the bitter past. Just leave me alone Mark, I rather you just leave me alone." Mark stood there for several moments and turned out of the room. He seriously needed to teach himself how to stick his foot in his mouth.
The next day Melrose came into excited to work with her first resident. "Stevens, come with me today." Melrose said waving her over. "Oh, wait what?" Christina sighed seeing Izzie give a smirk before taking off with Melrose. "On the case we asked Doctor Torres to join us for the woman's shoulder. She's a very good at Ortho." "Awesome, that sounds perfect." Melrose opened the door to find a pretty woman in her late twenties, she was hissing under her breath. "Mrs. Yearn?" The gentle woman looked up and gave a pained smile. "Hello, thank you for seeing me, Dr. Turner." "This is Dr. Stevens, she'll be joining me today." Mrs. Yearn smiled at Izzie, "Can you tell me what happened?" "Oh, I fell in the shower this morning and my shoulder hit the side of the bath tub and I heard it pop out of place, but I was worried about my child?" Melrose stood up and rolled up the woman's top to see several bruises on her sides. Izzie's head turned to the side automatically looking at all of the purple and blue all over her. "This will be a little cold but it's just to find the baby with the ultrasound." Melrose gave Izzie a small nod to write down the bruises all over Mrs. Yearn's body. She put the ultrasound gel over the woman's stomach and turned on the monitor. Halfway through, Callie Torres walked through the door looking at her chart. "Hello, Mrs. Yearn," She looked up at the woman and saw the nasty shoulder. "Ooh, that's pretty nasty. It shouldn't hurt as much when it's in." Callie's eyes flipped up to Melrose. Her eyes narrowed at Melrose and then at Mrs. Yearn. "Where's your husband, Mrs. Yearn?" "Call me, Kate. He's at work, sadly. He said he'd be in shortly." Callie held up Kate's arm and held the back of her shoulder still her hand grasping the woman's bruised wrist. "On three, one..two-" "Heart beat." Melrose said pointing to the screen hearing a pop, Kate groaned feeling it slide back into place. "My baby is okay?" Kate asked, "Yes, she is. She's perfectly fine." Callie saw the relief fill Kate's face. She touched her stomach, "We're okay, you hear that? We're okay." "Mr-Kate, we're going to do a CAT scan. I just want to make sure everything else is okay from the fall." "Oh, Alright. That sounds fine." "Dr. Stevens, will take you." Melrose wiped off the gel from the woman's stomach and helped her up. "Thank you so much, Dr. Turner." "It's my pleasure, Kate. I'll see you soon." Izzie helped the woman to a wheelchair and took her out of the room. "Thank you for joining me, Dr. Torre-" "Look, I don't want to talk to you. This is a case of helping that woman. I don't like you, I don't like what you did to Mark and I don't care. I just don't look forward to working with you." Melrose was taken a back from Callie's out burst, but she knew exactly why she would hate her. Mark had told her HIS side of the story, making Melrose looked like the bad guy. Melrose laughed dryly and looked up at Callie. "I don't know what Mark told you, but I don't think you have the right side of the story to hate me. To think I'm the one that hurt Mark. You don't know the full story, you don't know anything about him and I. He gave you small tiny BITS of me. I'm not the heartless woman who broke him. Don't judge me when you haven't heard my part of the story. I was looking forward to making friends at this hospital. It looks like I won't be able to. Good day, Dr. Torres." Callie watched Dr. Turner turn her head and storm out of the office, the door slammed and Callie had a feeling of regret of what she said to Melrose.
