"I would've said yes."
Those words echo in my heart.
How could I have been so wrong?
What prompted me to throw away
what I had dreamed for?
The future flashed in my mind,
scenes that could have been
but were now lost
by my own hand.
And when I turned around,
she was already at another's side.
A moment, that was all,
that she devoted to bidding me
farewell.
Then she drove away
with a stranger.
leaving behind memories
and the sunglasses.
. . . . .
I pick the sunglasses up and stare
into the darkened lenses,
my reflection gazing back at me.
And I ask myself again
what force led me this way.
I put them on and go inside,
greeting my friends with a hearty laugh.
"Where is she?" they ask and I tell them
"I broke up with her."
They say it's for the best
and I agree.
But they can't see the reason
that I'm wearing these...
because you can't see tears
behind the shades.
