Pete and Avery begin to get to know each other outside of the bedroom. Just what does Pete have in mind?

“Pete!” I slipped, falling against Pete’s naked body. We were in the shower- his teeth freshly brushed. All was perfect with the world if we just forgot the major details. Thankfully it seemed we were both great at forgetting, or pretending.
Pete laughed, “Whoa there.” He held me tightly, brushing his lips against mine. “Keep throwing yourself at me like this and I might just have to take advantage.”
“I was under the impression that we were aiming for that.” I teased, brushing against him seductively as I found my footing again.
“We have perfect aim.” Pete replied, running his fingers over my cheek which sent shivers through my entire body.
I wasn’t thinking of Patrick. I wasn’t thinking of the deal I’d made with my own personal devil. No one was holding a gun to my head. I wanted this, and I wanted Pete. Everything about him was storybook perfect, if you took away the part of him paying for sex. He was the guy that little girls dreamt of marrying one day. He was perfect. Why was he here?
“Don’t pout.” Pete whispered, capturing my mouth with his for a few delicate seconds in which my heart beat harder against my chest than it ever had before. “I want to make you happy.”
I laughed. I couldn’t help it. Happiness was what he brought. It was the type of happiness that was unexplainable. He brought it so freely- dispensing it like Robin Hood would dispense riches to those that were poor.
“I mean it.” Pete whispered, shutting the water off.
The entire room went quiet as I stared in to Pete’s eyes, forgetting to breath.
“You’re in good hands.” Pete whispered, soft wet lips reattaching to my welcoming lips.
I believed him.
I forgot who I was.
I forgot who I’d become.
I think he did too.

“That was good.” I breathed out, wiping hair from my face.
Pete was breathing hard. “Good? Just good?” He teased.
“It was terrific. Um, orgasmic?” I pulled the sheet over me quickly, my face heating quickly.
Pete grinned, “Are you hungry?”
“Yeah, actually I am.” The grumbling of my stomach proved in to the entire room.
Pete laughed, “Let’s go out and get something to eat.”
“Out?” I croaked, surprised.
“Out.” Pete replied, grinning.

Pete took me to a restaurant I’d never been to before, and I was horribly underdressed. My jeans were worn, and my shirt a bit dirty. I felt like the entire restaurant could see me for who I was. The only kind smile I received was from Pete, who seemed oblivious to the entire reaction of the restaurant.
“Have you ever been here before?” Pete casually asked as we were seated. The waiter took our order for drinks and then disappeared. We both opted out of alcohol and went for soda. It seemed a safe enough start.
“It’s a little upscale.” I responded, “Now if you asked me if I’d ever been to Burger King before I’d have something a little more interesting to say.”
“Like?” Pete chuckled, glancing at the menu.
“Well, I ran in to their drive thru sign once.” I responded, “And another time I plastered myself against the wall as someone passed because they seemed a lot closer to me than they were.”
Pete laughed loudly, gaining a few stares. “Drunk, high, or sober?”
“Believe it or not I was sober both times.” I answered, smiling.
Pete nodded, continuing to laugh though a little softer. “Well, I’ve accidently knocked over a few waiters here… I finger fucked my best friend’s girlfriend under the table once… and hmm, I know I’m missing something but I can’t remember.”
“Wow, you’re a lot more risqué than me.” I suddenly felt self-conscious, “You’re not hoping to re-live the past are you?” Everyone had a price tag but for public indecency mine hadn’t even been set, and I didn’t really want to face a situation in which I would have to set it.
Pete gazed at me, “You’re not dating my best friend, are you?”
“Well… we aren’t serious.” I teased.
Pete laughed, “I wouldn’t dream of doing anything you weren’t comfortable with.” I visibly relaxed. “Plus, that’s not exactly a part of my past that I’m proud of. We’d been fighting on and off and before that he had slept with my girlfriend. That still doesn’t make it right but we were young, and stupid.”
“You’re still young.” I commented, “Are you still stupid?”
Pete laughed, “I like to think I’m not as stupid as I used to be but who knows? Does anything on the menu look good to you?”
“I’m not really sure.” I looked back down at the menu, “The new York style steak looks delicious. I’m kind of craving meat.”
Pete covered his mouth with his hand as he chuckled.
I glanced up at him, my cheeks heating as I realized what I’d said. “Oh.” I muttered, face unbelievably hot with embarrassment.
Pete was grinning when he dropped his hand from his mouth, “The New York style steak sounds good. I think I’ll have that as well.”
I smiled but couldn’t force away my blush.
“You’re cute when you’re embarrassed.” Pete commented, as if reading my mind.
I laughed and blurted out even more embarrassing words, “You’re cute.”
Pete chuckled, “Really?”
“Well, yeah.” He had to already know that. I was surprised his ego wasn’t the size of Nevada.
Pete smiled widely, “Thank you.”
Then the waiter arrived with our drinks and we placed our order. Pete spoke for the both of us but I didn’t mind. I liked the sound of his voice, and the way he treated me. It was totally unexpected. I didn’t feel like a whore around him though. I felt like someone experimenting sexually- and it felt okay.
I could ignore the truth with Pete, and it didn’t make me feel bad.
“So, I was thinking that tomorrow we could catch a movie.” Pete suggested, sending his dazzling smile my way.
I fell in to his intricately woven trap as my heart starting beating a little faster and my palms gathered sweat. I reached for my napkin, tucking it to my lap just in case I needed it. I hated sweaty palms. “What movie?”
“The possession just came out and it looked good, unless you aren’t interested in horror. Then I’m sure there is something else we could watch instead.” Pete took a sip of his soda, while I opted to use one of the available straws.
“I love horror movies but I must warn you… I get pretty cuddly during and after, but mostly after. Meaning I don’t like to sleep alone after watching a horror movie.” I blushed at the admission.
Pete chuckled, “Well, you won’t be sleeping alone.” Then he winked, sending shivers through my body.
“Then The Possession sounds great.” I answered. I entertained the idea of winking but I knew it would be self-sabotage so I decided not to. When I winked, I winked with both eyes… It looked goofy. Patrick used to make fun of me for it all the time.
Pete seemed to get struck with a sudden idea that brought yet another captivating smile to his face, “Which do you prefer, spoon or fork?”
“Uh, I prefer a spoon.” I answered, “What about you?” It was the weirdest question I’d ever been asked.
Pete laughed, “Spoons are better, more delicate. You can always spoon up food, you can’t always stab food- like rice. Rice is a bitch to eat with a fork.”
I laughed so hard that I snorted, making Pete continue to laugh. “I can’t wait to snuggle up in bed tonight and make you laugh.” I was surprised by the statement, and left with a smile on my lips.
“I can’t wait.” I murmured, just as the waiter returned with our food.

(I skimmed on the sex in this chapter but there is a ton coming, no worries.)
