You breathed in. All you could smell was the cold, and it stung. Your nose and cheeks were dusted pink, and that didn't even account for the blush that was surely giving you away. You were leaning against a tree in the middle of the park, watching him. He was alone, for now. You didn't know if anyone was coming for him, if he was waiting, but your heart longed to be close to his. It beat furiously in your chest, as if trying to escape to reach him. You bit your lip as he turned his head, and you quickly averted your gaze so he wouldn't notice you. You focused on the clouds dotting the sky, and you watched as each one passed and morphed into familiar things. A flower, a smile, and a dog. You yourself smiled at that, and you were reminded of your puppies at home. You couldn't wait to get back to them, their loving eyes and furry coats and playful attitudes. You loved them with all your heart from the first time you saw them. You hadn't noticed that while you were reminiscing about Lily and Sweet Pea, Gerard had gotten up from the bench he was sitting on. As you stared into the sky, he walked over to you. Next to you, you heard "Frank?" and immediately you jumped backwards into the tree. You hit your head, and suddenly you felt dizzy. You rubbed the place you hit the hard trunk, and you felt warm breath on your face. "Are you okay?" he whispered. You looked up into his eyes, which were filled with genuine worry. You nodded once, and he helped you up. Your face was still brightly colored, and you were embarrassed that he could see it. You wondered what he thought of it, but you were too shocked to ask. It would also make things awkward, which you definitely did NOT want. Your head was starting to REALLY hurt, and it throbbed. You mentally kicked yourself for being such an idiot, and you were thankful it was as cold as ice. The snow helped dull the pain, and if you had too you could explain that your blushing simply came from being outside too long. He turned to you and smiled "Good, I was worried I'd have to take you to the hospital!" in reply you said "It hurts a lot but I'll be fine..." you trailed off as he looked at you, and you made the mistake of staring into his eyes. He searched your face and you felt paralyzed under his gaze. He took your hand and tugged lightly, mumbling "Can I walk you home?" you noticed he was faintly pink, and you nodded again once. The two of you started walking towards your house, and along the way you were silent. Your heart had picked up it's pace again, and felt caught in your throat. You were scared, but you treasured his touch. His warmth. You dared to lean on him lightly, resting your head on his arm. He was taller than you, but you never cared. He stiffened a little, and you pulled back in alarm, but he squeezed your hand lightly and you returned to him. You felt safe with him, and he let go of your hand to put it around your shoulder. He pulled you closer, and you smiled to yourself. He was warm and he smelled of vanilla, snow, and faintly smoke. You nuzzled into him and took it all in, and he tightened his grip. You didn't know why you were suddenly feeling so brave, and so okay with his affection, but it may have been your wound. You walked along with him, content with his arm holding you and your face buried into his side. Finally, luck was turning in your favor.
