Chapter One.
Its been two years on since Gerard was raped when coming home from the pub after drinks. But, even after it left Gerard mentally and physically depressed with life, no charges were pressed against Elliot as no evidence was found to suggest he did it.
Now, a twenty one year old man, he should be in college and making a future for himself, but he does'nt feel like doing anything. He just sits in his basement and stares into nothing. Nothing interesting. Just the walls of his bedroom. The only time he leaves is to get coffee and food, or to go to the toilet. His family and friends have tried everything they can to engage conversation with him, but nothing works.
"Gee.. Um.. Mom wants a word with you." Mikey, his younger brother said, his head around the door of Gerard's bedroom.
After a grunt and Mikey leaving to go back upstairs, he finally drags his lifeless body up to his Mom, who looks shocked that he actually came.
Their Mom is sat at the Kitchen table, a fine oak piece of art, with a worried look on her face as her son approaches him.
Gerard looks a sight. His hair is long, like a bush overgrown that has'nt had a cut in years, and greasy and his skin is pulled tight against his bones, which suggests he has'nt eaten properly in months. He's wearing an old, worn, Misfits tee shirt and grey jogging bottoms, a few sizes too big, probably the size he used to be, before he decided to do nothing, but sit in his room.
"Look Gerard, you haven't done anything for two years. I know you're still suffering from.. What happened.. But you need to start doing something. So that's why I enrolled you in Rutgers on an Art course. Meet new people. Have.. Fun.. Please Gerard." His Mom softly tells him.
"Mom.. I haven't drew anything since.. Y'know.." He tries to plea, making his case seem good.
His Mom looks at him and smiles slightly. "Just go and do the course. It'll give you a future. A chance again at life.."
Gerard thinks about what his Mom has been telling him for a few moments, thinking of all the possibilities what an Art course at Collage could provide him. He could make new friends, and socialise with people again. Plus, he has'nt seen his old friends since the incident, neither side has bothered to drop a text or call. Maybe it'll be good for him to see the outside World again.
He nods. "Okay.. Okay, I'll go. When does the course start? And do you know of any good coffee places around Rutgers?"
Gerard's Mom laughed slightly, finding it funny about his coffee addiction. "It starts tomorrow, 10am. You'll need some new clothes," She passes $200 dollars in an envelope to him. "Yeah, there's Iero's just next door. You remember Linda? Well, she runs her own coffee shop now."
Gerard does'nt remember who Linda is and neither does the name Iero ring a bell, but he has been stuck in a basement for two years so he's not even sure how much the outside World has changed.
"Thanks Mom, for the money and the coffee. I owe you big time, ok?" He gives her a quick kiss, before leaving to get a shower to look okay to go out.
He had'nt had a shower in a few weeks and smelt horrible, his hair disgusting and full of grease. It felt good to feel the hot water pouring down his skin, immediately cleansing it.
When he'd finished showering, he found a decent looking t shirt and jeans.
He came back into the kitchen, dry and clean, and he searches for his car keys in the draw, punching the air triumphantly when he does.
"I'm really proud of you Geebear." His Mom cues, ruffling his clean hair.
"I know Mom. Guess I've finally seen the light, and your talk made me do so.." He wonders to himself.
New Jersey, to Gerard's shock, hasn't changed and looks the same. Before he gets into his car, he walks to the road, Lee Street, where they found him and glances down at the spot.
"G--Gerard Way.. Is that you?" Ray Toro shouts, his fro waving in the air as he ran towards him.
"Yeah, it sure is. Two years later I'm finally over it and ready to face the World, well, more just New Jersey really." Gerard explains to his old best friend, hugging him.
Ray runs a hand through his fro. "Well, that's good to here. It's all my fault y'know. I should of been there, we should of walked you home that night.. And we didn't. It's something we can't take back." His voice cracks slightly as Ray attempts to apologise for what happened.
"I know Ray, but, really, don't worry, I'm over it now. It's in the past." Gerard gestures with his hands to show that it doesn't matter any more.
"Well, I'll see you around, yeah?" Ray asks, before jogging off.
Gerard walks back to his house, and starts his car to go to the local Shopping mall for clothes.
Three hours later, he comes back with about ten bags full of new skinny jeans and cool t shirts. Since he hadn't been eating, he'd lost quite a lot of weight, more than he acknowledged.
"I met Ray earlier." He told Mikey, as they packed away his clothes in the wardrobe.
"Oh yeah? What'd he say?"
"That he was really sorry he just left me to make my way home that night and he'll see me around." Gerard shrugs to his brother.
Mikey grits his teeth. "Damn Toro should be too."
They finished putting away the new clothing in an awkward silence until Gerard broke it saying he was going to sleep for tomorrow was a big day. Mikey understood and nodded, before leaving.
