Chapter 1
I grabbed my guitar from its stand in my spare room and put her in her case. I smiled at the sun-kissed, cutaway, acoustic that looked up at me from its soft resting place in the case.
"Well Leif, it's time for us to show what we're worth." I said as I closed the case and made sure I had my butterfly finger picks and regular picks.
I put her in the back end and drove to the Decay Dance recording studio across town and parked. I was a little intimidated but I smiled when I saw my reflection in the tinted front window, my hair was straightened and you could see my single lip ring in the middle of my lip, triple pierced ears, and nose stud. I pulled my white tank top down to cover my Journey and Blue Oyster Cult self designed trap stamp and looked at the tattoo on my right shoulder of a dragon winding down my upper arm and its head rested in the crook of my elbow. I smiled and smoothed my hair as I walked in.
"I'm Charlie Taylor, for Brendon Urie." I stated to the woman behind the desk.
She typed fast on the computer.
"Studio 4...down the hall second door on the right." she said dully.
I picked up Leif and carried her back, I opened the studio door and saw two guys sitting on the back leather couch. One was feminine looking with glittering blue eyes and long dirty blonde hair. The other had short dark hair and dark eyes, but with a strikingly sexy presence.
"Are you Chuck?" The striking one said as he rose from his indented seat.
I nodded nonchalantly.
"Charlie to strangers though." I said with a playful smile.
He smiled back, amused by my humor.
"Well Charlie, what're you going to do for us today?" he asked eagerly.
I pulled out my guitar and sat on a stool he'd pulled out for me.
"This..." I said as I began picking Don't Think Twice It's Alright by Bob Dylan.
I sang it with all my heart and soul and watched as they ogled my movements like an exotic dancer upon her pole. I finished the song and looked at them, seeking they're approval when he spoke.
"Can you play anything more current?" he asked challengingly.
I smirked and started playing Radioactive by Imagine Dragons. I finished fairly quickly and smiled as I saw the wonder in his eyes as he rose again and approached me.
"Well Charlie...we want YOU as our new guitarist." He said with an accepting and warm smile.
I put Leif down and smiled.
"Thank you sir."
He laughed.
"Such manners for a punk looking girl." He teased.
"Well I have to have some good quality." I laughed.
He smiled.
"I'm Brendon and that is Spencer Smith on the couch." He introduced as he shook my hand.
"I'm Charlie Taylor, Brendon...pleased to make your acquaintance." I said warmly.
We talked for a little when the door to the studio opened and I saw a man, taller than myself but then again I', only 4'11, walk in. He wore thick rimmed glasses and had red-blonde hair. I looked at his eyes and for a moment I though I knew this dreamy gentleman. I had to be mistaken though.
"Hey Brendon...did you decide on a guitarist?" he asked in a voice that was achingly familiar.
He laughed.
"This is her, Patrick...Charlie Taylor."
I stood up as he looked at me in shock.
"Charlie Taylor?" I knew a girl named Charlie in high school...but she was clean cut." he laughed nervously.
I studied him a moment, for I had been a good girl back in those days and realized who he was.
"Patrick Stump..." I said mindlessly.
He laughed.
"That's my name."
I shook my head.
"You were my only friend Senior year, jag off!" I said with an almost laugh.
He looked at me wide eyed.
"Holy Smokes! That is you Charlie!" he said looking me over and smiling a little.
I hugged him tightly and smiled.
"Too long, Trick...way to fucking long." I laughed as he let go.
"What happened to you, Charlie?"
I twirled some hair around my finger.
"Dated Dalton Mathers, got screwed over, found safety in my music and have been living on those notes since."
He grimaced.
"He was an asshole."
I winked.
"but there's a boy next door standing right in front of me." I flirted.
He blushed.
"Ha Shucks, Charlie..."
Brendon and Spencer had left us to catch up.
"Can I take you out for a drink tonight, around 9?" He asked nervously.
I blushed, no one had asked me out in years.
"Sure ha-ha" I said smiling like a fool.
He and I swapped numbers before I left the studio and back to my apartment.
Could today get any better? The guy I was hard core crushing on since Sophomore year had FINALLY asked me out for drinks and I had aced my audition. Fuck luck, there is a God and that bitch was finally smiling down on me...
