Pete was quickly brought out of his thoughts as he heard the door to the studio open. It had been two days since that meeting at Best Ink and him seeing Cadence again after all these years. Time had definitely been good to her. She was prety as ever. But he for some reason couldn't help the anger that came over him with the thought of her having a child with someone else. It made no sense the way he was feeling seeing as how he had also had a baby with someone else. The emotions were purely confusing. Nothing new for Pete, but even this time it confused him.
"Earth to Pete." Patrick's voice snapped his head up. The door had pulled him out of his thoughts but he had never bothered to look up.
Now looking up he smiled seeing his best friend and his fiance, Lisa. "Oh god you brought a cop. I swear I've done nothing wrong." Pete grinned as he raised his hands.
"You know, Pete two years now and that joke never gets old." She shook her head as she settled down on the couch crossing her legs.
You see Fall Out Boy after their brief hiatus had decided to start recording again, except they didn't tell anyone what they were doing. That way the fans wouldn't be waiting forever from the announcement, just a few short moments. It would be great!
Pete nodded and smiled and then his eyes drifted towards Patrick who had taken the seat next to his. Oh my god, how was he supposed to tell Patrick that after twelve years and no one really knowing where she had ended up that he had ran into Cadence. This would probably blow Patrick away. Pete was in love with her, Patrick was her best friend for years before that.
"I...I have something to tell you.." Pete barely got the words out of his mouth. It wasn't like Pete not able to tell Patrick something. This was really killing him. Patrick looked at him with a look that Pete could read. Well, just spit it out already. "I saw Cadence."
A smile danced across Patrick's face. "I had a feeling you would the second you went into for the best ink meeting." He had to chuckle.
"You knew?" Pete's eyes grew large with confusion.
"Pete, no matter what Cadence said or did, that was..is..was..my best friend and do you honestly think that I would of just blindly not known what had happened to her after she just off went to england?" He questioned. Of course he hadn't just let her disappear without anyone knowing. "I have known all along what she has been up to." He nodded.
"Why didn't you tell me you kept in touch?" He was starting to get that angry feeling under his skin again. "Why didn't you tell me?!" He repeated.
"We didn't keep in touch." Patrick realized Pete wasn't getting it. "I hired a private investigator to make sure she was ok. She's happily living in the suburbs with a husband and a gorgeous little daughter and has a very, very good career." His desire was to never contact her, just to know she was ok. "Pete, she walked out of our lives, she made that very clear."
"Well, she doesn't feel that way now and I think you should of told me so I could of found her."
"Yes, while you were engaged and Ashlee was six months pregnant, I am going to tell you that your ex-girlfriend is back." He shook his head. "What do you mean she doesn't feel that way anymore?" He questioned.
Pete shook his head. Maybe if Patrick had told him he knew where Cadence was he would never be in this mess. "We're seeing each other tomorrow."
"Pete! She is married!" Patrick was exasperated enough to draw Lisa's attention from her book.
"I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that." Lisa said in a sing song voice.
"And what about Eryn?" Patrick continued.
"I broke it off with Eryn." He shrugged.
"So now you're into infidelity?" Patrick questioned. "You weren't so crazy about that in your own marriage, were you?"
"She's not happy." Pete looked at Patrick.
"Did she tell you that?" Patrick asked and Pete shook his head. "And in what capacity are you two seeing each other?" He looked up at him.
"Play date with our kids." Pete almost mumbled.
"You are using your son to try and move in on a married woman?!" Patrick dropped his head into his hands. "Pete, I can't tell you what to do but whoever Cadence is now, is not the person you knew twelve years ago. She was seventeen then and very delicate." He tried to use his words carefully. "You could get into this now and she could be a different person."
"We all have pasts now, don't we?" Pete shrugged. He wasn't much of a believer of fate, but why, why would she be right there if he couldn't have her. It was nearly impossible to think this was another tease. "Back to the music?" Pete looked at Patrick.
Patrick nodded as Pete handed him a piece of paper. "Try these new lyrics." He got up.
Patrick looked down at the piece of paper and sighed.
