Sighing, Cadence walked into her house. She threw her keys on the table and shut the door with her foot as her hands were full with groceries and Ariana who had decided she was no longer a big girl, but she was a baby.

"David?" She called out. She was never sure if he would be home, be alive, be sober or anything until she got into the house and saw the situation. She did her best to control it. Drugs were not allowed in their home at all, but she couldn't physically stop him from shooting up and then coming home and crashing on as he put it "their" couch. Yeah right, their couch. Everything in that house she paid for. She was the only reason they still had a house. He had managed to blow all of her money on this dumb addiction.

No answer. That didn't mean much though. This was pathetic. That Cadence basically had to scan her house before she could put her daughter down to run around. Walking into the living room she saw David asleep on the couch. "You're late." His voice suddenly spoke. Leave it to be today the one day that he was sober enough to know she was a whole ten minutes later than usual.

"Stopped for food." She answered as she put Ariana down. She could immediately tell by his anger that it wasn't an acceptable answer. "Arii, go upstairs and play with your toys baby." Cadence pointed up the stairs and the little girl quickly followed. She was no moron.

"Yeah and what else did you waste money on?" He grabbed the bags out of her hands.

Cadence sighed. "Don't worry, there's still plenty of money left for your fucking drugs." She took whatever was in her wallet and threw it at him. She was really getting fed up with this.

"Fuck you. It's your fault I'm in this much pain anyway." He seethed as he pushed into her not even turning around to see that he had knocked her into the counter, pretty much knocking her over and causing her to smash her face before he pounded out the door to get whatever it is he needed not to be "sick". It was talk Cadence had heard all too much.

The next day was work as usual for Cadence. Ariana was with her babysitter on set and today was going to the first run through with Pete as the new host and a new judge added. Cadence was sitting at her desk filling out some paperwork. Her face was sore and freshly bruised from the run in with the counter yesterday.

"I look like a dork. You can't let them dress me like this, Cad."

She looked up as she heard Pete's voice. She was about to react when she immediately knew he was going to react to her face. Years pass, people change, but Pete, he was still as readable as ever when it came to her. Before she could even get the words 'I'm fine' out of her mouth he was by her side.

"What happened?" He asked as he sat on her desk next to her.

"Besides your ass crumpling your contract, nothing." She batted him away. "Don't be mad if you don't get paid." She tried to make light of it. Pete was having none of that.

"Seriously." He looked at her not moving.

"It's embarassing!" She smiled up at him. Hopefully he wouldn't still be able to tell when she was lying. Sighing, "last night Ariana got out of her bath and went streaking through my house. I of course followed behind..with a towel..not streaking..well, anyway.." She continued as she ignored the look on Pete's face that read 'too bad'. "Anyway, I didn't think her little body could shed that much water and I slipped right into my kitchen island and bam. Shiner." She laughed, shrugging. "Joys of parent hood, right daddy?" She patted him on the arm.

Pete nodded. He wasn't sure if he believed her. He used to be able to tell if she was lying after one sentence. He couldn't now and that was bothering him. "So, now, me..dork?" He waved a hand over the outfit they had stuck him.

"What's wrong with what you're wearing?" She smirked as she looked at him. He did look really, really and I mean really dorky.

"You are kiding right? Where is my contract?" He lifted his ass up and pulled the papers out. "This here says I should not be dressed like Alphalpha." He nodded.

"Pretty sure it doesn't. But, just go tell them to let you wear...whatever you wear normally...just wash it." She offered.

"Oh haha. You know I'm a father now, I wash clothes. I even shower!" He nodded proudly.

"At 34, I'm glad you do." She laughed.

"Oh, and you're what..30?" He smirked. "Ouch, how's that feel old woman?"

"Still feels younger than you." She got up from her chair and walked around the desk with him. "Are we still getting the kids together tomorrow?" She asked. "It's the only day off in shooting and what not." She looked at him.

"I wouldn't miss it for the world." He smirked. "My little boy will charm the pants off your little girl."

"Mmm, she's not as easy as her mommy was." Cadence looked at him and laughed as she walked down the opposite hallway of him. So, she was married, it's not like it was happily and it was still fun to flirt. Nothing would ever come with it. When she took her vows to David she took them seriously even if he didn't.

Pete looked at her as he watched her walk down the hall. "Ouch." He laughed as he went back to wardrobe. The boss said he could be dressed better than this!
