"Ugh!" I grunted as Pete and I set the last piece of furniture down in my bedroom. That dresser was so much heavier than I remember! Patrick walked in with a box and set it on top of the dresser.

"You're all moved in," Patrick informed me.

"The truck is empty?" I said with excitement in my voice.

"Yep. That was the last box."

"Fuck yeah," I said with quiet excitement. I was exhausted. "Thanks for helping me, you guys."

"Of course," Pete said with a smile as he gave my shoulder a pat. My body ached for him any time he touched me.

"I'm going to head out so I can help Elisa get ready for tonight," Patrick stated, wiping his palms on his jeans. It was her birthday and they were having a big party.

"Sure, thanks again Pat. I'll try to make it there early to help you guys set up. All depends on how long it takes me to get my shower working and find my clothes again," I joked, being half serious. The guys laughed and we walked towards my front door.

"See ya guys tonight," Pat said as he left. When the door shut, I felt Pete's presence in the air, also like how you can feel static.

"I um, can help you unpack some things so that you can get ready on time tonight," Pete offered. I nodded.

"Thanks, that'd be really helpful. You don't have to though," I had tried to avoid spending alone time with him these past few weeks. I'd gone on another couple dates with Grant, but realized I was not ready to move on from Pete. Grant and I were about to sleep together and I just couldn't do it. I haven't seen or heard from him since. Not that I was sad.

"Don't worry about it," Pete said, heading into my bedroom. We were opening boxes and peeking inside to see what type of items were inside.

"Well, I found my nice shoes," I said. A lot of my stuff was in the storage unit and I was dumb and didn't put more than 'Bedroom' on the labels.

"You bringing Grant tonight?" Pete asked while opening another box.

"No." I looked at him, curious to know why he was asking. "You bringing Meagan?"

"Yeah." His eyes met mine. I could see it in his eyes. He was holding something back.

"What?" I asked him. He looked away quickly and went back to opening boxes.

"Nothing." He said softly, sounding defeated. I wanted to go over there and ask him what he was thinking, but I dropped it. No good could come of it. We opened boxes in silence for about 5 minutes before we had found my nice clothes.

"Yay!" I said when Pete announced that he had found my dresses. "I hope they still fit," I said as I stood next to Pete and began to look in the box. I felt his gaze on me and I looked up, right into his eyes. His face was maybe a foot from mine and I couldn't help but look at his full lips. Our close proximity was dangerous.

I stepped back and backed into a box, causing me to fall backwards over it. Pete reached his arm out and caught mine, pulling me up and my body bumped up against his.

"Thanks," I whispered and he nodded.

"I'll um... see you tonight," Pete said softly and I just nodded. He turned and left. I held my breath until I heard the front door close. I think it's safe to say that my feelings aren't 100% one sided. That knowledge isn't good. Knowing that he has a girlfriend and him showing no outward signs of still having feelings hurt, which made me keep my distance. But knowing that I still have some affect on him will make it so much harder to stay away. I have to avoid him tonight at all costs. And not drink because that will just be asking for trouble.
