Hey everyone, here is another chapter. Sorry for the long wait again. I am currently in the hospital and on pretty strong pain meds so if you notice anything a little off with the writing that would be why. I apologize and feel free to comment and let me know where an edit needs to be made.

Pete smirked as he sat down on the bed behind Cadence. They had put the kids down for bed about an hour earlier and had spent some time with his parents before going back upstairs to his room. It was so weird for Cadence to be there, in her mind she felt like she was trapped in time. It had been many years since they were there, sitting on his bed and talking and laughing.
"Tomorrow, me and you are going to go out for a little bit. My parents are going to watch the kids. I think it'll be ok, Arii has warmed right up to them." Pete said as he leaned back on the bed. His one leg hung over the bed on the floor and the other leg was straight out leaving enough room for Cadence to lay back onto his chest.
"You think it'll be ok?" She asked absent mindedly as she was anywhere else but having this conversation. She couldn't believe everything that had happened in the last two weeks. Between seeing Pete again and losing David. Oh how mad she was at him. She had kept it together at the funeral but the angry part of her grief was really starting to kick in. She had also asked Lisa if she would just peak into the investigation a little bit. She hadn't told Pete about it, she was on such shaky ground with everything. She didn't want to hurt him, but then again, they weren't together. That was a ship that had long sailed.
"Yeah, that's what I think." He laughed as he rubbed his hands down her arms. "Where are you, Cad?" He asked, leaning his chin on her shoulder.
"A million places." She sighed as she leaned into him more getting comfortable. "Where are you?" She asked back.
"Right here with you." He whispered as he kissed her shoulder. He admired the tattoos that were scattered along her shoulders and down her back. At least what he could see of them with her tank top on. Smiling, he reached around her and lifted the material on her shorts. His favorite was the tattoo she had on her inner thigh. When they had been dating for about a year one of their friends Nick, had gotten a tattoo gun and swore he was going to be Chicago's next biggest tattoo artist and Cadence had volunteered to be his first victim. Surprisingly the tattoo had come out amazingly done. He loved it. It had been a pink bow that she wanted and on the inside of it was Pete's signature. Cadence always joked that she wanted to be the first girl to have his name tattooed on her.
He had almost a smile of satisfaction on his face. He couldn't help but think of it's intricate placement. Any and every time she would of been with her husband there in his face was Pete's name. That alone was a victory in his mind.
Cadence smiled as she grabbed his hand. "Stop being fresh." She laughed and turned around to look at him. She knew what they were doing. She knew what he was doing. They were both using each other as a crutch to get over their exes. She didn't want to be ok with that. She knew she shouldn't have gotten involved with him in this way, but none of that mattered when she pushed him down on the bed and began to straddle him. Right now, he was the only thing that would make her feel better.
The next morning, Pete and Cadence had gotten up and went out for the day. The kids had stayed behind with his parents. He really only just wanted to be with her for a little while. Like it was when they were younger, before all the drama, the fame, divorces and everything else. For just one day they could be Cad and Pete.
"Oh my god, this place is still open." Cadence laughed as they walked up to Shakey Joe's. The diner they had all spent many days and nights at. Pulling open the door, Pete held the door open for her and walked inside behind her. He had almost walked into the back of Cadence as she had suddenly stopped. Her body became stiff, everything inside of her went numb. This could not be happening, he could not be sitting there eating lunch. How was he even still alive.
Pete stopped as he caught Cadence's direction and knew exactly what she had seen. "Babe, let's go.." He pulled on her arm. As soon as he grabbed her arm he could see her whole body go limp and she hit the floor almost immediately thankfully Pete had sense enough to hold onto her head. "Somebody call an ambulance." He yelled out as he cradled her head trying to wake her up. "Cad, come on." He whispered.
Before he knew it the EMT's were there and they were taking Cadence to the hospital. He couldn't believe this. Every time they had a chance at a time alone or some happiness something like this had to happen. He had to be there. Why wasn't he dead? Pete was seething over everything but really didn't have much time to think as he got into his car and followed the ambulance to the hospital.
