Cadence was sitting at her desk as she went over some things that had come along with having to work for a reality show. It was different from doing scripted television show. It had been a few days since she saw Pete. Afterwards not much else had been said and he had been calling and texting like crazy but she just told him that she had been really busy getting
things done with the house having been sold and what not.
She looked up from her paperwork as she heard her cell phone ringing. Looking down at the caller ID she swiped her finger across the screen and unlocked the phone. She recognized the area code as being a Chicago phone number. She immediately answered it but then felt her chest tighten. What if it had been her Uncle?
"Hello?" She questioned.
"Hi, baby. It's mom." Mrs. Wentz's voice came loud over the other side of the phone. "Is this a bad time?"
"No, not at all." Cadence wasn't sure why Pete's mother was calling but she could only hope that it had nothing to do with Pete. He better not have sicked his mother on her. She'd kick him in the ass. "I'm sitting at work with a ton of paper work that I don't want to do." She laughed.
"Oh I know how that is, baby." She smiled. She was trying to figure out how she was going to ask Cadence this. She had heard the rumors and when she spoke to her son he had basically confirmed the news without coming right out and saying it. If it were true she thought she deserved to know. "So, I am calling because I really need to ask you a question."
"What's the matter, mom?" Cad leaned back in her chair. Her belly had started popping already and even though it was small she knew that she was going to have to buy some bigger clothes soon. She rested her hand on the rounded part of her bump.
"Well, I think..." She started. "Cadence, I wasn't born yesterday and I know that you and my son have always had a hard time in keeping your hands off of each other." She chuckled. "And, well I can't help but notice the gossip sometimes..." She was just trying to come out and say. "Cadence, are you pregnant with my grandchild?"
Cadence sighed. She knew this was going to get out eventually. It's what happens when you get pregnant by a rockstar.
"Mom, I am." She nodded. "It's really complicated right now. Pete and I..." She trailed off. "I thought he would tell you."
"He did." She responded. "In not those exact words but you know I know my son better than anything." She told her. "You two aren't together though are you?"
"No."
"And are you going to be? Once his divorce is finalized..." She trailed off.
"I don't know, mom."
"You two have always belonged together." Mrs. Wentz said. "I want to know my grand child." She told her. "And you better not go disappearing on me again." She warned. "How far along are you?"
"Four months." Cadence replied as she put her head in her hands. "Listen, mom. I love you. You will definitely see your grandchild. Pete is going to be around his child. You know I wouldn't hurt him like that..."
"Cadence, you're hurting him right now. All he wants is you and him to be a family. I know you might think it's too soon, or it looks wrong, but the fact of the matter is that you guys have such a strong history that this isn't just jumping into something...you two have been destined to be together from the time you walked through my front door." She told her.
"I know you are at work so you call me when you get home, you understand?"
"Yes, mom." Cadence nodded. Her words stung at Cadence. She didn't think she was hurting Pete. Neither one of them were in a situation where they should be dating. They shouldn't be playing house or doing anything of the sort. It was too messy of a situation for their kids, for everyone.
Pete was sitting on his couch looking through his phone. He was so lost in his own thoughts that he didn't even hear the doorbell ring. It wasn't until he heard Patrick calling his name that he was broken out of his own head. He jumped off the couch and opened the door. "Sorry man." He apologized.
"You ok dude you look like shit." Patrick pointed out as he closed the door behind him.
"This whole thing with Cadence is taking a damn toll on me." He sighed as he crashed onto the couch. "She was great the other night and now she's been blowing me off again." He sighed. He thought when they had made love that they were getting somewhere. That she was letting her guard down.
"I know you love her dude, but she's going through a hard time..." He trailed off. He had many conversations with Cadence about everything that was going on. In the last four months everything had changed so drastically in her life. "Her whole world was pulled out from underneath her."
"I know that, but I love her. I want nothing more than to give her some fairytale life. She could have whatever she wants! We can have our kids and this new baby and she can be here with me..." He sighed. "Maybe I need to move, cause I lived here with Ash, that makes it weird for Cad. Right?" He sat up. "I'm going to sell the house and get a new one. With more
bedrooms...that way we can have more than just one baby together!" He nodded.
"Pete, calm down man. Just give her time, but listen to me. She is using you..." He didn't want to say this but he had to protect both of them.
"No, Cadence doesn't use me." He shook his head. "We made love the other night, I know she loves me."
"I don't mean it like that..." Patrick trailed off. "I just mean it seems to me that every time you two get together it's because Cadence is lonely or wants to have sex." He looked up at him. "Just don't let her play those games with you. You both need to be put into a place where you're stable."
Pete nodded as he looked down at his hands. Patrick had just confirmed his worst fears. "We have a doctor's appointment tomorrow. I'm going to have a talk with her." He nodded. He needed to know what was going on. He had enough games with Ashlee and he wasn't doing that with Cadence too.
