"Cad are you sure you want to do this?" Pete questioned as he was kneeling next to the tub. She had been having contractions on and off for the last hour. They were coming now about six minutes apart and she had decided she was going to stay at home for as long as possible and she was using a warm bath to help her with it.
"Yes." She nodded as she breathed deeply. "I ran to the hospital with Ariana and it was a miserable experience. I want to home labor." She gripped the side of the tub.
"How we doing?" Patrick asked as he peeked his head into the bathroom and then walked fully in when he realized Cadence was wearing a bathing suit.
"Okay." Cadence nodded.
"I'm a wreck!" Pete looked at his best friend with a helpless look on his face. "I think we should be in the hospital!" He was panicking. "Plus, she's early!"
"Pete, I'm 38 weeks. Twins don't carry as long as single pregnancies, remember what Dr. Warren told us." She gritted her teeth as she started to breathe heavily as she felt another contraction. She was the one in labor and here she was trying to assure Pete that everything was okay.
"It'll be fine, Pete." Patrick patted him on the back as he sat next to Cadence on the side of the tub and held her hand.
"She's a trooper." He smiled. "Plus, Lisa is on her way here so if we need to rush to the hospital, bam, police escort." He smiled.
"You know once Cadence is all healed we are so borrowing Lisa's handcuffs." Pete smirked.
Cadence shook her head at the thought and gave him a soft laugh as she leaned back in the tub as the contraction had passed for the moment. She knew once they were coming every three to four minutes she would go to the hospital. That could take hours or it could take no time at all for her to dilate.
"Keep wishing on that one Wentz." Lisa laughed as she walked into the bathroom. "The only time you'll be in my handcuffs is if I'm taking you to jail." She laughed. "How ya doing, lovey?" She leaned over and hugged Cadence.
"I'm ok, I think." She nodded. She was trying so hard to keep it all together. Her contractions were starting to come closer together. "I think it's time to get dressed." She nodded.
"Okay, okay." Pete nodded as he pulled the plug and let the water drain out and then he and Patrick helped Cadence out of the tub.
"Let's go." Patrick said, "You get dressed and I'll get the car."
"What do I do?" Pete turned to look at Patrick desperately.
"You go and get her bag." He nodded. Lisa had already brought Ariana to Dani and Joe's house so that they could watch her while Cadence was in labor she wouldn't be worrying about Ariana.
"Right, a bag!" Pete nodded as he ran out of the room. You would think he hadn't done this once already.
"That poor boy." Cadence shook her head as she took a deep breath letting a contraction pass. "We have to hurry, it's like every two minutes." She groaned.
"Ok, Lisa, help her?" Patrick said as he ducked out of the room.
Lisa nodded and helped Cadence into the bedroom so she could get dressed. She had never been more happy about her decision not to have kids. This looked like misery!
"Thank you." Cadence breathed as she put her shoes on. "Ugh I have to give birth not once but twice!" She said as she waddled down the stairs to where Patrick was waiting. "Why did we think buying a house with this many stairs was a good idea?!" She was exasperated as she got to the bottom of the stairs.
"Ok, I'm ready!" Pete nodded as he ran down the stairs behind her.
"You're not driving." Cadence shook her head as Patrick had pulled the car up to the front and they helped Cadence get inside. "I want to get there alive." She smiled looking at her fiance.
"I'm not arguing there." He shut the door behind her and jumped in the car himself.
They had arrived at the hospital in a matter of a few minutes. It was easily done with a police escort. Thank god for Lisa's job! They had immediately taken Cadence into the room and Dr. Warren had been waiting for her to get there. The plan the whole time was for her to labor at home as much as possible, even if Pete wasn't crazy about the idea. Patrick and Lisa were also going to be in the room with them. Patrick did not want to miss this! He had already missed too much in his best friend's life.
"Don't touch me!" Cadence gritted her teeth as she pulled her had away from Pete's. She immediately felt bad when she saw his face. "Sorry."
"It's ok. I know it hurts. Are you sure you don't want some drugs?" He asked.
"I'm sure." She nodded as she let out a deep breath.
"I could use some." He sighed as he ran a hand over his face. "Where is the doctor?" He looked around the room. It had seemed like they had been alone in the room for hours with all these machines beeping and what not.
"Pete, please calm down." Patrick looked at him. "You've done this before!" He looked at him.
"It was different!!" He told him as he shook his head. He didn't want to say it was different this time because he loved Cadence more or anything like that but it truly killed him to see her in this much pain.
"Are we ready to have some babies?" Dr. Warren smiled as she walked in. "I think we should just be about ready." She slipped on her gloves and went to check to see if she was dilated.
"Oh my god, it's a head!" Patrick laughed as he couldn't help but look. You would think that would be awkward, but it was in no way awkward for the two of them.
"No way.." Pete reached over and peeked.
"Guys, please!" Cadence said through gritted teeth. "I have to push."
"Go for it." Dr. Warren instructed Pete to hold back one of her legs while Lisa helped her with the other. Cadence pushing her feet against their hands as she tried to push with all her might. Dr. Warren counted to ten and then Cadence was allowed to relax. This went on for about five minutes before she was able to pull baby A out. "Here's your daughter." She smiled as she rested Kennedy on Cadence's chest. "4:34 pm." She called to the nurse.
"I can't do it again." She shook her head.
"You didn't get your boy yet!" Patrick reminded her. "Come on you can do it." He said as he kissed her head.
"Okay." Cadence gave in and went back to pushing. This time it was quicker as within three minutes she had Jace placed on her chest. "Oh my god." She looked down at them and started to cry.
Pete stood there dumbfounded as he looked between his fiancée and their newborn children. Life couldn't be any more perfect. "I love you." Was all he could say as he kissed her repeatedly. They were the most perfect little people he had seen since his son was born.
"I love you too." Cadence let out a sigh of relief as the nurses took the babies off of her to clean them up and get their weights and warm them in the warming trays. She was exhausted!
