And the Canary Will Sing

Four:

To the Land of Tweed We Go!

'Someone, tell me how to get out of here.'

Charlie gasped and covered her mouth. Lies. She stood, wavering. How could this happen? How? She turned and saw Willow fighting.

"YOU!" she screamed, white hot anger boiling over, "YOU KNEW!" She rushed to a terrified Willow. Summoning her magicks, Charlie forced herself into the fold of Willow's mind.

"Spike, Charlie lives with you. She can fight beside us, but she's not a vampire. And, knowing you, you wouldn't live with some one not like you."

"You're right Red," he said, looking at her, " She was a human girl like you once were." Spike paused. Closing his eyes at the memory of how he and Dru found Charlie.

"Please, Spike," Willow urged, "tell me." Spike sighed and looked at her. "If I have to, I won't tell anyone," she promised. Spike nodded and sat in front of her.

"See me an' Dru were having our own time in the 'States when we came a crossed this little girl with two nasties. Dru, at first sight, took to the girl. She ate up those nasties, and we took her home.

"Dru's playmate at that time was a witch. Dru had her cast a Forgetful charm on the girl. Then, the hardest task, the 'Spell of Immortality.'"

Willow gasped and stared at Spike. Her eyes wide a plates. He nodded and took a drag.

"The girl was out for a few days. But when she came to, she had no idea who she was, were she was, anything. Me an' Dru took her in. Char was our own little Princess. We trained her." Spike let out a soft laugh, "Dru had her call her "Mummy"," he said, more to himself than to the red head.

Willow looked still at Spike. Her mind whirled...

Willow pulled from Charlie's grasp. She looked at Charlie with fury.

"SO THIS IDENTITY, THIS LIFE IT WAS ALL FAKE!" Charlie collapsed to the ground holding her head. Spike, Mum... they had lied. Lied. Lies. Lied. Lied. Lies. Lies. Lies. Lies. Lies. All lies. Her spun and her mind was filled with events.

'I've gotta get out!' with a flash of green light Miss Charlie disappeared.

She maneuvered through the folds of time. She moved onto England. She was looking for one thing: James. She needed to find the long lost brother of her's. James. James Paul Potter. She appeared in Muggle London. 'The Potters.' She hailed a taxi with desperation. Succeeding, she climbed into the back seat.

"Do you know were the Potters are?"

"Potters?"

"Erm, James Potter, his parents?" The cabbie grinned.

"Aye, I do. I'll take you to 'em if ya like." Charlie nodded franticly. The cabbie pulled out of the street he was on, ending up on a dirt road.

Charlie peered out the window. Desperate for distraction. She was going to see her family. She smiled. Everything might fall back into place.

The cabbie stopped. "'Ere you go Miz." Charlie stepped out and gasped. A cemetery? She ran in. Immediate finding Potter.

Diagon Alley was more than she remembered. And the pub had stayed the same. Charlie smiled and headed into the crowds. She was hoping that maybe she might find someone she knew, little did she know...

Red hair, worn shawl, "Molly!" Molly Weasley jumped. Her eye sporting a nervous glance.

"Yes, what is it deary?" Charlie huffed.

"I knew it. You don't remember." Before Molly got a good look at her, she hid most original features with a glamour.

"I, don't think um..."

"Ah well. We went to school together. And I wonder what are you up to?"

"N-noting to terribly interesting." Charlie searched Molly's mind. Find the 'Order of the Phoenix.'

"I was wondering... I want to get involved in the Order. Could you allow me to stay at the Headquarters?"

"I-I-I-I don't have a clue-"

"You do. And you'll take me there." Withering under Charlie's gaze Molly broke in.

"I haven't caught your name Miss?"

"Charlotte. Charlotte Craig." Charlie smiled inwardly. 'Thanks Spike for letting me use your name!'

"Well then, Miss Craig-"

"Call me Charlotte!"

"Miss Charlotte, if you'll follow me..." Charlie followed Molly. She smiled sweetly to herself. 'Mind control is getting better and better...'

Charlie stepped in. Her eyes widened at how dark the house was. Even with her keen senses it took a while for her eyes to adjust.

"Come with me," Molly whispered, beckoning Charlie forward. "No one's home but the owner. He's most likely up stairs. Come," Charlie followed into a decently lit room. The kitchen. She inwardly flinched at the grubbiness. She tried not to let Molly know her utter disappointment. She turned to Molly and opened her mouth to speak only to hear-

"MOLLY! WE GOT HIM-"

"FILTH! HALFBREEDS! SHAME OF FILTH AND ROT IN MY-"
