And the Canary Will Sing
Three:
Something in Side of My Mind
'I'm sure if my dad had a sibling, I'd know there were alive.'
"Damn that Slayer!" Charlotte growled, punching the bag. Spike held it in place for the woman. Although she had the body of a thirteen year old, she was older than the slayer and her Scobbies. "I hope she dies and burns in hell!" Spike gave her a skeptical look. Charlie rolled her eyes. Ever since Spike had gotten his soul he was... pleasant wasn't the word, but he wasn't his old self.
"Luv, you gotta let it go," he said calmly. Charlie glared. She knew he wouldn't take her bad mouthing the slayer much longer. And she didn't care. She continued to punch the living daylights out of the bag.
Small padding foot steps descended down the stairs. "You know Spike, Buffy doesn't like your girlfriend." Spike laughed and Charlie continued her beating of the bag.
"I know that little bit. But Charlotte doesn't care," said Spike in a teasing was. Charlie stopped and looked pointedly at the vampire.
"Screw you Spike. You know they need me." Spike smiled and laughed, looking at Dawn.
"so, she is your girlfriend?" Charlie raised and eye brow at the girl's question.
"Hun, I'd plunge face first into the Master's grave, and have a tea party with him and our special quest, the First, before I'm the girlfriend of this soft Poof." Spike growled, sending Dawn and Charlie into fits of giggles.
The slayer descended down the stairs, "Dawn?" She stopped, and narrowed her eyes at Charlie. "Dawn, what are you doing with her?"
"Slayer- erm, Buffy. I'm not going to hurt anyone. And I'd say-"
"No."
On and off she helped those good for nothing mortals! And now, she was a bad omen! They can't fight that crazy-ass spirit with only one witch! They also need more muscle, with those inexperienced Potentials, there isn't much hope. How could she help if the slayer wouldn't let her? Charlie mused on. Not noticing Spike come from behind her.
"She's just on edge."
"Oh, really?" Sarcasm.
"She is. The battle is coming soon."
"I should help, since... since you are." Spike smiled and dropped a kiss of her lips.
"You are."

They parted. Willow and Kennedy took the ax with them. Spike and Charlie headed with the Slayers. Charlie and Spike stood and in hand, welcoming death if it came.
"Come on Willow," Buffy muttered. The vamps saw them, and Charlie stood tall.
"Spike. This might be the end." Spike nodded.
"One last kiss my sweet." The kissed, a lingering kiss that promised forever. Suddenly, Charlie felt a surge of power. More than enough power. She welcomed it. She welcomed death at her hands. She was in control.
Ubervamp. She swung, and decapitated it with her hand. She could feel it all surging. Nothing could stop her. The slayers were doing good, if she could say so her self. Charlotte spun, dusting vamps left and right. She felt everything melt. A vamp hit her. No prob. Instant Dust. She fought with another, a stubborn one, and didn't notice the one behind.
"CHAR!!!!" A thin sword impaled her. She fell. Death was welcome, but... It didn't come. The First appeared before her in the form of a man with unruly black hair, and deep blue eyes.
"Ow, sissy, it hurts!" Charlie growled. "What do you want?" hissed the First.
"I want... you ... to get out of my... FACE!" She stood up and threw a punch, actually connecting with the First's jaw. The First was shocked. She picked up a fallen sword and struck the First through the heart. It gave an anguished cry. And the world began to collapse. All the living slayers fled. Charlie and Buffy bringing up the rear. They stopped by Spike. He was holding the amulet, his face gleeful.
"Spike," Buffy started, "I'm sorry, for every thing. I love you."
"You don't. But thanks." Buffy ran up. And left Charlie alone with Spike.
"You really are going to die." Charlie began to cry. She threw her arms around the souled vampire. He hugged her back with force. Then he pulled her away from him, holding her at arm's length.
"Listen my Princess, I've gotta be quick." Time seemed to stop as Charlie listened, tears rolling silently down her dirty cheeks. "I love you. You're... I don't know what you are to me, but you're apart of me. The Big Man up there only knows how much I love you.
"Take good care of Buffy. I know she doesn't love me, but there's a soft spot. She'll need you, weather or not she wants to admit it or not.
"Look after Dawn. Be a role model, and best friend for the little bit. She sees me in you, so she'll listen to you.
"If you ever see Dru, let her know that she's still, to some extent my Dark Goddess. She will always be that to me, no matter what happens.
"Be strong. Luv, be so bloody fucking strong that you'll bring me back to life!" Spike smiled and kissed Charlie one last time.
"SPIKE! NO, PLEASE DON'T!"
"GO!" Charlie took one last look at Spike and ran. All round her time slowed. Her mind was screaming to her. She seemed to be moving to slow, so slow, that she was inches from being crushed. Charlie was sobbing, and stumbling. She was losing focus.
But Charlie saw Buffy running to catch up and Charlie felt the strength build again 'He sacrificed him self so I could live. I WILL-'
"-LIVE!" Out of the corner of her eye Charlie saw the school collapse on Spike, covering him forever. 'I might not make it. Neither Buffy.' Charlie concentrated and muttered the words of the spell she had in mind. Gliding thought the folds of time, Charlie grabbed Buffy. They fell out, and tumbled onto the bus, witch stopped soon after.
Shakily Buffy and Charlie climbed down. As soon as Charlie's feet touched the ground, she was bombarded by memories. None of witch, her own.
Pricing through her mind was a voice, a boy's voice.
"CARRIE!" Charlie shuttered. 'This has to be in my mind. Just my mind...' A boy flashed before her eyes.
Unruly black hair, deep blue eyes, glasses that framed them.
James.
