Praise them for their success, and buy them some fun new big kid underwear to celebrate their accomplishment. Ask for feedback. There is nothing quite like going to the store and skipping the diaper section all together. If child adamantly refusing to "try", back off and wait a while before trying again.


Perhaps it's because they don't like the feel of the soiled diaper on their skin, but they are not uncomfortable enough to alert you. When you are out and about you can make a makeshift step stool by kneeling down and allowing your little boy to actually stand on your knees.
