Buying a new car is something Americans enjoy doing, and when the mood hits them they want to be driving a new car almost immediately, without any todo. This is not necessarily a good thing to do, because a car purchase is usually the second largest purchase you are going to make in your life. You want your vehicle puchase to be as fast as 1-2-3 while in contrast you are prepared to go through a lengthy process before buying a house.
When you buy a home, there's someone alongside you every step of the way, starting with the broker who must find the right house for you. You then might employ an attorney to check over the deal, while the title company will ensure that you get clear title to the house. There is not one person to help you when you go in to buy a new car. It's quite possible to wander into a dealership, and drive off later that day with all the paperwork and other aspects completed. There is a price, though, and often it is that you spend more than you normally would.
One thing you want to do is visit one dealership with the firm intention that you will under no circumstances buy a car while you are there. Promise yourself that you will only look and try out the vehicles, and then go back home to do some research. Search on the Internet for the dealers costs, safety ratings, option prices, and whether or not there are any manufacturer to dealer incentives that weren't mentioned. Before you go to the car dealership you must decide the amount you can afford, and be resolved to resist any attempt at upselling to something more expensive. If you can't keep up with the payments, you are definitely the one who will suffer the consequences, having your car taken away by the bank.
Whenever a calculation is created by the finance manager, make him show you the calculations. Simply by attaching a couple of dollars to your monthly payment, which you will never be aware of, car dealerships can increase the amount of money they make. Let's say $500 is just what you tell a salesman you can afford; he could then say he has a deal for $480 which in truth is only $460. The news he gives you pleases you, but at the same time the dealership is taking an extra $20 per month of your money. Help them avoid dishonesty and keep your money safe. Take notes regarding everything that you learn, or that is explained to you. This is going to keep everyone on the same page, and hopefully more honest.

You may as well help to make buying a car an enjoyable experience, so keep the upper hand, and remember it is your new car. If at any stage you start having uncertainties of any shape or size in terms of a deal, walk away, it's your decision, not theirs, at the end of the day.
