Chapter Forty-Six: Deal with the Fox Devil:
"Excuse me," a girl's voice spoke up. Jotaro turned his head. A girl with dark hair sat beside him. She looked so elegant in her kimono. He already knew who and what she was.
"What do you want with me?" Jotaro asked. The girl smirked.
"Forward," she said. "I like that."
"What do you want Aki-san?"
"Team up with me."
Jotaro raised his eyebrow. "Why?"
"I'm about to die. It's inevitable."
"So why bother?"
"I want a fighting chance at least."
"Why come to me?"
"You're free now, right?"
"Yeah."
"What will you do now?"
"I don't know."
"Exactly."
"So?"
Aki scooted closer. "We can help each other out. I live a little longer. You have something to do. Works out great."
Jotaro frowned. "Who sent you?"
"No one. I came by myself." Aki saw the look in her target's eyes.
"I know what you are thinking. Yes, Haruka-san is my master. I am loyal to her. But she does not know I'm here. I am acting alone."
"How can I trust you? Why should I?"
The girl shrugged. "Up to you. But it would be better if you did."
"What do you mean?"
"Your father is dead."
Jotaro's eyes widened. "What?"
"It's true. Mama killed him."
"Mama as in…"
Aki nodded.
"You don't beat up about it."
"I'm not surprised."
"Oh?"
"She's already married. Of course she'd reject him."
"Heh."
"What does that mean?"
"What do you think it means?"
Jotaro folded his arms across his chest. "Look, what game are you playing at?"
"No game. Just an alliance."
"That's it?"
"Yes. Come on. What do you have to lose? Take the deal."
He pressed his lips together. "Fine. Whatever."
Aki smiled. "Good boy. You and I will be great friends." She held out her hand. Jotaro rolled his eyes as he shook it.
And now the union was complete.
At home, Haruka could her kitsune actions. She smirked over her wine.
"Heh, well played," she said. The old lady took a sip of her wine. She too could feel the end of the war coming for them. But which side would win?
